Maury River
Rockbridge County
Rockbridge Baths, VA
The sunset explodes with color following a summer storm along the Maury River in the Virginia Appalachian Mountains.
After getting the long sought after shot at the Union Meadows Dam I missed out on the next two shots I'd had planned in Milton due to an unfortunately timed flat tire. After swapping it out on the side of Route 16 I thought for sure my day was a bust, but I swung in to Tri City on the way south and they were still there! Fortunately I was redeemed as they had so much switching that they spent a good 90 minutes there which afforded me more than enough time to not only catch them but also hike into this marsh a bit to the south at the insistence of a friend. His advice was spot on as this was by far the most spectacular foliage of the day!
Here is New Hampshire Northcoast Railroad train D8-141 (the 141st loaded train of 2021) departing from Tri-City as they emerge from the shadows crossing the marshland surround Heath Brook near MP 81.8 on the former Boston and Maine Conway Branch. They are headed for Rollinsford and a short sprint on trackage rights down to Pan Am's Dover Yard where the train will be left for a Pan Am crew to board later in the evening and forward the train south as PAR train DOBO to NHN's parent Boston Sand and Gravel facility in Charlestown just across the river from North Station.
All three green units on the roster are in charge of the train on this day: NHN 3823 (GP38-2 blt. Sept. 1978 as CR 8242), 1801 (GP18 blt. Feb. 1960 as CRIP 1341), and 3825 (GP38-2 blt. Sept. 1978 as CR 8244).

"I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you."
-Isaiah 44:22
Last night was pretty miserable. I squandered a wonderful photo op and was up until 4am pacing our hotel room and hating myself.
Tonight, I took a chance that I should've taken last night. This is the first image in a rather special one-night series.
Emancipate yourself from mental slavery.
None but ourselves can free our minds.

i know i might be over doing it with the light, sorry ha. it was already super bright and this was best i could do as far as editing. i'm not sure if i like this, give me your honest opinion.
edit: i always have a hard time deciding which pictures from a shoot to upload so if any of you are interested in seeing them all, i'll be putting them on my facebook page if you care... also i have a tumblr that i'm trying to figure out how to use, it's really complicated. or maybe i'm just dumb... follow me and i'll follow you back... that sounds so creepy.

Know as the site of release of Mary Rowlandson during King Philip's War (1675-1676), this place was also used as a meeting point for local tribes. Today the land is found along the Midstate trail and is owned by the Trustees of Reservations.

I have been standing here wondering
As I look at the sky
Would it have been easier
If I had just let you lie
The days would have been normal
The nights remained peaceful
But only really for a short time
It would have eventually
Caught us all
You bargained with fate
Delaying the price
But now its me picking up the tab
Trying to save my soul
Thoughts hover between land and sky. The view towards Litlington, East Sussex, UK, as I travel home.

After getting snubbed by a long-hood-forward train here two days prior, Sunday proved better with a nice looking EMD leading an oil empty up Steelton Hill at Gary. An added bonus had the train running on the near track, which provides a better shot from public property (Becks Road ROW).
The day misspent,
the love misplaced,
has inside it
the seed of redemption.
Nothing is exempt
from resurrection.

After heading out last Sunday to get a photo of Amtrak GE P42DC #100, painted a special scheme to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Amtrak, and coming home without the photo we were looking for, we gave it another shot this Sunday. Running westbound this day, Amtrak train #43, The Pennsylvanian, makes quick work of the former Pennsylvania Railroad station and tower in Bryn Mawr, PA. The previous day's storm dropped about 5 inches in this area, which adds to the nice winter scene on a bitter cold afternoon.
Last Friday morning after work I headed west to look for Pan Am train POED with two SD40s. Despite driving to Westford, Wachusett, Gardner, back to Wachusett then back to Fitchburg I never found them. Didn't find FI-1 either. In fact despite spending 5 hrs I never shot a single train. So instead of Foamer Friday it was Failure Friday. But that's how it goes sometimes in this bizarre hobby of mine.
Anyway, since it was on the way home and hoping for redemption I swung by Walpole to look for CSXT B731. By the afternoon the brilliant full sun had given way to filtered light but this was still better than the other two attempts where it was cloudy and I missed them entirely.
So like clockwork at the prescribed time they showed up coming through the ancient tunnel at MP 18.53 passing under Main Street / Route 1A along the former New Haven Railroad Midland Division Mainline jus east of the station and diamond. The pair of GP40-2s had a healthy train of 26 cars, nearly all of which were boxcars, destined for Framingham.

"The Shawshank Redemption" is a 1994 American drama film written and directed by Frank Darabont, based on the 1982 Stephen King novella "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption." It tells the story of banker Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), who is sentenced to life in Shawshank State Penitentiary for the murders of his wife and her lover, despite his claims of innocence. Over the following two decades, he befriends a fellow prisoner, contraband smuggler Ellis "Red" Redding (Morgan Freeman), and becomes instrumental in a money-laundering operation led by the prison warden Samuel Norton (Bob Gunton). William Sadler, Clancy Brown, Gil Bellows, and James Whitmore appear in supporting roles.

The eyes are forever unafraid
for all they see
is for all your mind cares
to see?
the harmonic enterpretation of inner wears
that belies you or me
and the remainder of three
past, present and future
within momentary sense
the fidelity of reproductive capture
of the photogenic kind
in the slipstream
behind a smokescreen
of idiomatic sapience
that contemplates this very scene
imagine the place if you will
embrace the face of allusion
entrap all inhibitions
for this staple apparition
may welcome reality's own missions
it pleases gracefully to be loved
it highlights more so the human need
it pleasures so well those it serves
it's true to instinct as of the norm
it's the unbridled passion flowing from the ends of our nerves
these very fibres of wordless quotation in action
plucked from time, reproduced naturally...
...never faked for we're each original by nature,
this fluvial focus of attention becomes blissful;
the discovery of form and living ornature.
