The Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) is the most widely distributed and populous dogs in the world, having colonised large parts of Europe, America, Asia and Africa. It was also introduced into Australia in the 1800’s for recreational hunting although some sources suggest it was to help control the spread of Rabbits.
The Fox is a remarkably resourceful creature, able to cope in a very wide range of different environmental conditions, from sub-tropical regions to icy tundra the red fox is able to find food and keep warm.
In the UK the red fox feeds mainly on small rodents such as field mice, rabbits and voles but will eat almost anything it finds, often eating carrion or preying on new-born lambs in the spring. This resourcefulness is one of the main reasons they’ve been able to populate our towns and cities with great success. They are superb hunters, able to sprint, turn and jump with surprising ease for dog.
Foxes are the smallest members of the dog family, with the adult red fox being around 75cm long from head to tail and weighing around five kilograms fully grown. Environmental conditions determine how long a wild fox lives, usually around 7-10 years but in captivity they can live to a similar age as pet dogs at around 15 years.
Red Foxes mate during the winter months with the pair staying together to act as parents to the new born kits after a gestation period of between 51 and 53 days. The kits are born blind and stay in the den for several weeks before venturing out to play and follow their parents, after three months the cubs are left to fend for themselves, helped by the abundance of food to be found during the long summer months, they receive sexual maturity roughly a year after birth.
Foxes are considered a pest by many farmers although it is difficult to judge their impact on the land, they do provide a service in keeping rabbit and rat numbers in check and are thought to only go after ill and dead lambs. The banning of fox hunting in the UK could actually bring a downturn in foxes due to the potential for increasing numbers being shot or poisoned as hunting never took a major toll on numbers.

I think I will think of spring when the rose comes back when valentines day remembers what the rose represents..The rose has such a meaning for so many women truly it is amazing of the meaning of it and I suppose men too as the giving of it .Maybe both men and women have the same sentiments of the rose. I know for sure when my hubby gives me a bundle of rose it makes me feel good..Roses have a way of doing that

Looking over the Noosa River at Noosaville. We get our first sunny morning on our last day!
On our holiday we spent 20 days in Queensland with the first in for two nights in Brisbane before heading to Noosa on the Sunshine Coast in Australia for six nights.
The Noosa area was originally home to several Aboriginal groups. These primarily include the Undumbi tribe to the south, the Dulingbara to the north, and the Kabi Kabi (or Gabbi Gabbi) to the west.
Although reports of the area can be traced back to Captain Cook's voyages in May 1770, European settlement in the region did not proceed for almost a century. This early settlement was primarily driven firstly by timber logging and then secondly a gold rush in the Gympie area, north of Noosa. The difficulty of transport in the region, which persisted to the 1920s and beyond, was one major reason for this.
In 1871, the Government laid out a port at Tewantin, which was duly surveyed and by 1877 contained two hotels, a boarding house, school, police station and telegraph office. In 1872, the Noosa Heads and coastal region north to Peregian Beach was set aside as an Aboriginal Mission, however this was cancelled in 1878 and land was opened for selection on 15 January 1879. With the advent of the railway, Tewantin declined in importance.[4]
In the last 50 years Noosa has been transformed from an isolated fishing village to a popular tourist destination. Although this has had its costs the shire is known for its generally greener approach to development. Most development in Noosa has been restrained. Noosa has no high rise buildings, due both to local community pressure and to council planning action, and much remaining native forest. 34.8 per cent of the Noosa district consists of National Parks, Conservation Parks, State Forests, and other generally protected land.
The popularity of Noosa comes from the fact that is it one of Australia's few North facing beaches located on the East Coast, hence Noosa Beach is relatively protected from on-shore wind and storms.
