for a couple reasons. One being that in the 5 times I've been to Battle, I don't think i've ever seen an eagle there. And second, we were heading back upriver after a couple hours of bear watching. Going back to camp is always with the motor, we're going pretty fast, it's bumpy, so not best conditions for shooting something like this.
But I could see in the distance on the riverbank, something fairly large and brown, which I could tell wasn't a bear and figured out pretty quickly it was an eagle. So I pointed my camera at it, focused and started shooting, hoping for the best.
I got about 8 frames or so, all fairly decent shots considering the conditions. I was thankful for a camera that can shoot 14fps with fast auto focus capabilities and my lens's stabilization technology.
So I was pretty happy to get this
I was going to post this yesterday, as the Atlantic Ocean hurricane season officially began on June 1. To all my friends there in the Gulf and around the Atlantic Ocean, be careful and be safe!
Jimmy Buffett sums it up better than I can...
"My second house in Key West, Florida was tucked away under fichus trees near the old Casa Marina Hotel. From my beach I could see the flashing red and green lights that marked the ship channel and ended at the Gulf Stream. Clouds used to gather over the the warm waters and spill out the rain and thunder. It was quite a light show. My front yard was my “thinking spot” in those days. I had a rocking chair and a hammock. When you come to think of it, you don't need much more..."
Cue the song of the day:
Well, the wind is blowin' harder now
Fifty knots or there abouts,
There's white caps on the ocean.
And I'm watching for water spouts
It's time to close the shutters
It's time to go inside.
Excerpt from the song: Trying To Reason With Hurricane Season

The shot was taken just before sunrise (6:42AM EST), as the winds were roaring pretty good, but did it ever feel nice!

Sometimes we do a thing in order to find out the reason for it. Sometimes our actions are questions not answers.

This is one of those 'just because' images. I had no plan at all when I picked up my camera, but these things somehow came together in front of me. The hydrangea flowers are from my garden. I've never used any of the perfume bottles (mainly because I don't wear perfume!), but I've acquired a few of them in the last couple of years and I enjoy photographing them.
I have every reason to be happy... I am privileged to live in PEACE! How beautiful is that?
Ordinarily, flowerbaskets are round and for hanging up...
Gathered all the cyclamens in one basket, I decided to photograph the whole scene instead of an 'isolated' few ). I just love those colours...
The name Cyclamen is presumed to come from Greek 'kyclos', a circle referring to the round tubers, or leaves.
Lovely inverted flowers rise out of fantastically patterned rounded or heart-shaped leaves. Some of the patterns, particularly the silver leaved varieties are exquisite and can truly be described as a wonder of nature.
From the family Primulaceae, they come in beautiful colours from white, pink, purple, red and combinations of these.
Cyclamen like the cool; the smaller the leaves, the cooler they can stand it.
The tubers are regarded as the favourite food for pigs in the South of France, Sicily and Italy, hence a rather uncommon common name Sowbread.
Cyclamen are poisonous; they have been used medicinally as a powerful purgative, but their toxicity makes this risky.

For some odd reason (which is to say, because of my lack of attentiveness), I took the clone picture in the macro setting, so my face was really blurred. >< But I had already changed out of the clothes, washed the makeup off, and put my hair up, so... there ya go. :] Was supposed to go to work with dad, but he let me stay home. :DDDD
Lyrics:
If I were a boy, even just for a day.
I'd roll out of bed in the morning
and throw on what I wanted and go.
Drink beers with the guys
and chase after girls
Kick it with who I wanted
And I'd never get confronted
Cause they stick up for me.
If I were a boy, I think I could understand
how if feels to love a girl
I swear I'd be a better man.
I'd listen to her
cause I know how it hurts
to lose the one you wanted
cause he's taking you for granted
and everything you had got destroyed.

"Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,' and said, a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

The reason for my thoroughly rewarding visit to Halifax in Yorkshire was to see its architectural masterpiece – the renowned Piece Hall. I’d heard about it over the years, but never seen it. And even on a chilly, dull, flat, rainy day, I wasn’t disappointed.
The Piece Hall is unique. It isn’t a hall at all, but a huge open square surrounded by 315 trading rooms over three storeys that are still in use today as cafés, boutiques, wine bars and souvenir shops.
It dates from 1779, when it was built for trading ‘pieces’ of cloth (a ‘piece’ being a 30-yard length of woven woollen fabric produced on a handloom). It’s the only building of its kind still standing anywhere in the world, and is one of the United Kingdom’s most outstanding Georgian buildings.

The main reason of existence for the yard of Clabecq is steel. NLMK is still active on site and Lineas brings in steel from Gent and La Louvière. Cow and calf Cockerill shunters take the heavy loads into the factory on 26/04/2021.
These falls are the main reason we chose to holiday near Cardigan in April. It took a bit of searching to locate them and also an early morning [for me 06:30 is early] start but it was worth it as I was the only person on the beach at that time and it was just a quick scramble across the rocks to get this view. Unfortunately the tide never seems to go out far enough to get a 'full frontal' shot.

Out of all the species of animals I have photographed, orcas are the most difficult! I have so many photos of splashes, or just a dorsal fin. And when they do jump out of the water, they are so fast it’s really hard to capture them – especially when you’re driving the boat at the same time.

Is this the most boring photo I have ever posted? Perhaps yes....but there is something I don't hate about it.
The reason I went to Durham, was to observe these beauties. I was not disappointed.

You can run free, I won't hold it against ya
You do your thing, never wanted a future
Fuck if I knew how to put it romantic
Speaking my truth, there's no need to panic
No, let's not put a label on it
Let's keep it fun
We don't put a label on it
So we can run free, yeah
I wanna be free like you
I'm a, I'm a, I'm a cool girl, I'm a, I'm a cool girl
Ice cold, I roll my eyes at you, boy
I'm a cool girl, I'm a, I'm a cool girl
Ice cold, I roll my eyes at you, boy
Rules you don't like, but you're still gonna keep 'em
Said you want fines for whatever reason
Show we can chill, try and keep it platonic
Now you can't tell if I'm really ironic
No, let's not put a label on it
Let's keep it fun
We don't put a label on it
So we can run free, yeah
I wanna be free like you
Okay, now for my reason why I love flickr so much.
I'll try to make a long story short as possible. Back in mid-June before I had to leave for Oregon unexpectedly I had my annual mammogram. While in Oregon I received a call from my doctor that my mammogram showed a spot and I need to get another mammogram and an ultrasound immediately. Holy Crap! Okay, so here I am in Oregon my father is dying and now this. So I made arrangements to go to a local hospital and get my second mammogram and ultrasound done there (I would have to pay out of pocket w/no insurance coverage); however, in the meantime my father passes away and I'm dealing with that. So one week later I go to have my mammogram in Oregon only to find out my physician in Hilo did not send the proper documents even though I signed all the release papers and the womens center sent my doctor two written requests. So hell, I can't get my follow up because the office that said it should not wait - screwed up the paperwork so I could not get it done. Go figure! The Oregon hospital refused my appointment without the previous films to compare! Okay, so now I have to wait until I return to Hawaii which I knew at that time it would be weeks as I was planning my fathers funeral, dealing with all the paperwork and details, packing up his belongings, etc.
This is where flickr comes in. Although I did not have my own computer there, whenever I could get my hands on one I would go to flickr and check out my friends photos that would put a smile on my face. As soon as I landed back in Hawaii I had 4 days of waiting until my appointment - I spent as much of those days online in flickr as my computer would allow - I had so many computer problems until 7 pm this evening, it was difficult but it kept my mind off the situation facing me.
Good news to report - I am fine and do not need a biopsy (this year). I went through this last year and needed a biopsy - absolutely the scariest time of my entire life but thank goodnes it was negative. My mother had it, her mother had it - so...
Anyway, that's why I love flickr - it's therapeutic in so many ways you cannot imagine!
As in, reasons why a 3-mile-hike can take me several hours to complete: lupine, camera in hand, heavenly floral scents around, more lupine, balsamroot, a different camera for some variety, glowy spots on the trail, lupine.

Reason enough to build and upload this little vignette. I hope you enjoy it during a second breakfast ;o)
I’d like to mention that building the round carpet almost drove me crazy. I needed several attempts and in the end, I got some inspiration from the mistress of mosaics, Katie Walker . Thank you, Katie, I owe you one.
There has to be 3100 reasons to like this eye popping yellow 1954 Chevy 3100 Pickup appeared at the annual Agriculture Hall of Fame car show in Bonner Springs Kansas.
The first, and only, major Advanced Design styling and engineering changes occurred with the 1954 models. These models featured a pleasing one-piece windshield, and all-new grille, new parking lights and a new steering wheel and
instrument panel.
Engineering advancements included the new standard 235.5 cubic inch OHV six cylinder engine producing 112 horsepower and 200 ft-LB gross torque. The full automatic Hydra-Matic transmission became an option for light-duty trucks. These trucks continued into 1955 and remained on sale until March 25, 1955 when all-new Early V8 pickup trucks were announced by Chevrolet.
For whatever reason on this particular day CSXT local B710 out of Readville Yard couldn't make it the mile and a half back home via Amtrak's Northeast Corridor mainline and instead tied up here. The little train of one GP40-2 with a string of empty centerbeams is seen here clear of the main just west of the Route 128 station on the lead into the Rte.128 Industrial Park at MP 216.7 off the Amtrak main. B710 serves the busy Home Depot distribution center at the end of the 1.25 mile long lead running down from Readville at least three days a week. Home Depot is the last active customer in this once bustling industrial park that the railroad helped develop in the 1950s at the same time the passenger station and the new circumferiential highway were built.

I recently took a trip to land between the lakes national recreation area in Kentucky. A nature station there houses animals that for various reasons cannot be released to the wild. Two beautiful coyotes occupied one enclosure. One seemed very tame and came close to the fence. This one was very shy and reticent, although he looks a little more stern in this shot. It's so wonderful to see wildlife this close, but I was glad there was a fence between us.
i love gardens...i think they are beautiful and lovely and everyone should have one. i just don't like gardening. :P
