The Sierra Nevada seems to live up to the nickname John Muir christened it with, "Range of Light" at dawn in the Alabama Hills outside Lone Pine, California. Mt. Whitney, the tallest mountain in the continental US, is located almost in the center of the image and Lone Pine Peak is on the far left.

Somewhere along the Flinders Ranges Way opposite the Elder Range (South Australia) is a view of this range. Though I could not find what it is called. Shot just before sunset. Unfortunately no nice red sky for me. Though the golden light makes this range glow.

A spectacular view of the Stirling Ranges which are the only significant mountains in the southern half of Western Australia. The aboriginal name is Koi Kyenunu-ruff which means 'mist rolling around mountains'. This was what I was treated to after a strenuous climb above Central Lookout, it was worth it!

I've been shooting some bracketed exposures for some time with the intent of one day trying HDR.

I really like the way this one came out, especially the details in the Canyon below.

Elder Range in the Flinders Rangers is located in east South Australia a distance of about 360km north from Adelaide. Approaching the southern end of The Long Range, where the waters leave the Upper Lake and flow north into Muckross Lake.

"The Long Range can be described as either a wide river or a skinny lake, and it connects Muckross Lake and Lough Leane with the Upper Lake in Killarney. Flowing between the Eagle's Nest mountain and the Ring of Kerry road, it's a fine sight at any time."

Far away from the paved road from Port Hedland, you don't see many photos of BHP trains operating through the Hammersley Range. Northbound loads are gliding downhill, passing between two mountains on their trip to the port.

I found this composition in the backcountry of the Snowy Range a few years ago, but I had to return this summer with better skies. This unnamed peak almost glows in the predawn light of late summer, and this particular pond reflects the scene perfectly. There's literally hundreds of lakes in this small mountain range which leaves a lot more exploring to do!

Imber Village on Salisbury Plain usually attracts quite a few interesting vehicles on it's rare open days..

On the edge of the Basin and Range a lonesome empty grainer rumbles north through the sagebrush and pines that cover the far northern regions of California. With no southbounds opposing them the entire way up and being around forty miles from the Oregon border, it was smooth sailing for the crew through this mostly desolate region. Just like here at Erickson, most places on the map around these parts are railroad tracks and the highways, or it’s just a dirt road. Within a couple of hours the crew would tie down the train in Klamath Falls and get some rest before having to do this all over again.

Captured the same day as the previous photo I posted. It was a good mid-fall day in the mountains; the snow level creeping down from the peaks, the beaver ponds starting to freeze, and the aspen leaves mostly dropped; leaving the dappled white branches ready to contrast the snow soon to come.

The leopard (Panthera pardus) is one of the five species in the genus Panthera, a member of the Felidae. The leopard occurs in a wide range in sub-Saharan Africa and parts of Asia and is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List because leopard populations are threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation and are declining in large parts of the global range. In Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuwait, Syria, Libya, Tunisia and most likely in Morocco, leopard populations have already been extirpated.

Contemporary records suggest that the leopard occurs in only 25% of its historical global range. Leopards are hunted illegally, and their body parts are smuggled in the wildlife trade for medicinal practices and decoration.

Compared to other wild cats, the leopard has relatively short legs and a long body with a large skull. It is similar in appearance to the jaguar, but generally has a smaller, lighter physique. Its fur is marked with rosettes similar to those of the jaguar, but the leopard's rosettes are smaller and more densely packed, and do not usually have central spots as the jaguar's do. Both leopards and jaguars that are melanistic are known as black panthers.

The leopard is distinguished by its well-camouflaged fur, opportunistic hunting behaviour, broad diet, and strength (which it uses to move heavy carcasses into trees), as well as its ability to adapt to various habitats ranging from rainforest to steppe, including arid and montane areas, and its ability to run at speeds of up to 58 kilometers per hour (36 mph). – Wikipedia
