On this 96 Degree June day , Clay county Sheriff’s office Deputy Joe Adler checks on truck driver who's rig at that could not take the heat .
Half of Clay county is in the Hazzard Range National forest so temps don't research the high 90s and 100s ,but here where this photo is in The terreno llano seco basin ( TLS basin ) In western part clay county for about two years now . Semis have been hauling the crude from the oil fields the 145 miles to Sparta to be load on tankers cars to take to refineries , TLC basin is about 90 miles along ,but 20 miles wide in western Apache and clay counties NM and means dry flat land in Spanish.

On this warm ( High 70s ) Saturday, Nov 15th,2025, afternoon, we see Hazzard Range County Lieutenant Dolly King talking with Sergeant Cathy Trejo at Government Center Plaza next to the County Government Center in Sparta, the county seat.
With County Sheriff Troy Forbes on a month's medical leave, Undersheriff Ron Bayerd is filling the role of Sheriff that he has been assuming more frequently as Troy undergoes cancer treatments. Dolly and Lieutenant Bubba Sanchez have taken more of the Undersheriff's duties.
Dolly is a county native. She was hired by HRCSO back in 2001 and was promoted to Sergeant in 2008, then to Sergeant/investigator in 2014. In July 2016, she was promoted to Lieutenant. Lives in Sparta with her husband Joe Jr King, a New Mexico State Park Ranger, and was the sheriff's office himself for 12 years from April 2006 to June 2018. They have an adult son who is attending Culinary school. In 2026, she plans to run for Sheriff, as Troy's term is up; however, he is also considering running for reelection.
Bubba, who is a 41-year veteran of the force, doesn’t want anything to do with being in the Sheriff's seat,
Cathy was born in Miami, FL, and worked for the Miami Police Department from 2000 to 2006. She moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where she worked for the Cheyenne PD from 2007 to December 2009, when her Husband transferred to the plastic factory in Sparta. The HRCSO hired her in May 2010. She divorced him in 2015 after catching him having an affair
Ron was hired in 1998 and promoted to Undersheriff in December 2022. He is dealing with his own feelings, seeing Troy go through a lot of what his late wife Ruthie did before she passed away from cancer in 2011.
With Healthcare in the state of things, there are a number of pressing issues across the board. Dolly has already heard chatter from some members of the community as they examine the assigned unit she is using this week, with some opinions labeling it a waste of money. However, she knows what is going to happen will happen as the county navigates this challenging chapter in its long history.
