The Ram II tank—often referred to as the Ram Mk II—is a Canadian cruiser tank developed during World War II. Based on the American M3 Lee/Grant chassis, it was designed and built by Canadian manufacturers (notably Montreal Locomotive Works) to meet the Commonwealth’s need for an indigenous armored vehicle that could fill the cruiser role. The Ram tank series was conceived as a stopgap measure until more modern designs like the M4 Sherman could be fielded in large numbers, and the Mk II variant represented an improvement over the earlier Ram Mk I.
