I suspect a fair number of people don't know that there is a rainforest in Alaska. However, the Tongass National Forest in Southeast Alaska is a rainforest and is the largest U.S. National Forest with 16.7 million acres. I shot this photo at Sitka and the mood of a rainforest was perfect - overcast sky, everything is a bright green, the wood looks like it's decomposing in place, just what I expect for a rainforest. The only difference with this rainforest is that this isn't tropical, but it does get consistently heavy rain. Specifically, Sitka clocks in with 120 inches of rain per year on average. As I was enjoying this view we had the constant and loud sound of a stream nearby, and the air had this fresh quality to it. It was amazing.

The trees along the Rainforest Trail in Pacific Rim National Park are quite large in size, it is quite difficult to actually get them in a single shot

Similar weather in Dereham this morning!
...at least it felt that way, with heat, humidity, rain, and millions of mosquitos. But the birds were amazing...yellow-billed cuckoo, cerulean and prothonotary warblers, scarlet tanagers, and at least 50 more species, This view, looking across the Cannon River towards the Collischan Road trail even looks a bit like the Atlantic Rainforest of Brazil, with its layers of forest and imposing terrain.
The Hoh Rainforest is located on the Olympic Peninsula in western Washington state, USA. It is one of the largest temperate rainforests in the U.S.[1] Within Olympic National Park, the forest is protected from commercial exploitation. This includes 24 miles (39 km) of low elevation forest 394 to 2,493 feet (120 to 760 m) along the Hoh River. The Hoh River valley was formed thousands of years ago by glaciers. Between the park boundary and the Pacific Ocean, 48 km (30 mi) of river, much of the forest has been logged within the last century, although many pockets of forest remain.

Penang Hill is actually a range of hills, between 700 and 830 metres above sea level, on the island of Penang, in Malaysia. The many vantage points and walkways allow you to immerse yourself in the lush rainforest as you explore.

Contrary to popular belief, tropical rainforest trees are not taller than all trees in temperate climates.

Last day on Christmas Island and we were all packed ready to head to the airport - unfortunately including my tripod - we then stopped off at a few prime locations to get a few more shots before heading home.. Pretty dark in the rainforest so I had to resort to a very high ISO to get a 'steady' shot even with the wide-angle lens. Quite impressed with the 80D at such a high ISO!
A bobcat walks across a mossy log in a Vancouver area rainforest.
Captured using a camera trap and lured with raw deer bones.
The person that made this is, I think, a pure genius. Just looking at how many bits and pieces he/she used to bring this 'creature' to life is amazing.
This was a pretty amazing day a few months ago in the Hoh Rainforest, in Olympic National Park. It was a mostly sunny day, but, occasionally a really low cloud would come drifting through the forest, creating these incredible lightrays.
This was a beautiful rainforest walk we did in the Minnamurra Rainforest whilst on holiday in New South Wales (hours before the broken wrist!!!!!!).
What's a 'rainforest' without the rain...I was so happy we got to experience one day of rain in Costa Rica. This Red-legged Honeycreeper seemed to be enjoying the rain as well as this beautiful perch.
Give a click to see the little green things on the perch!
Thanks for your visit and comments

The leopard (Panthera pardus) is one of the five species in the genus Panthera, a member of the Felidae. The leopard occurs in a wide range in sub-Saharan Africa and parts of Asia and is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List because leopard populations are threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation and are declining in large parts of the global range. In Hong Kong, Singapore, Kuwait, Syria, Libya, Tunisia and most likely in Morocco, leopard populations have already been extirpated.
Contemporary records suggest that the leopard occurs in only 25% of its historical global range. Leopards are hunted illegally, and their body parts are smuggled in the wildlife trade for medicinal practices and decoration.
Compared to other wild cats, the leopard has relatively short legs and a long body with a large skull. It is similar in appearance to the jaguar, but generally has a smaller, lighter physique. Its fur is marked with rosettes similar to those of the jaguar, but the leopard's rosettes are smaller and more densely packed, and do not usually have central spots as the jaguar's do. Both leopards and jaguars that are melanistic are known as black panthers.
The leopard is distinguished by its well-camouflaged fur, opportunistic hunting behaviour, broad diet, and strength (which it uses to move heavy carcasses into trees), as well as its ability to adapt to various habitats ranging from rainforest to steppe, including arid and montane areas, and its ability to run at speeds of up to 58 kilometers per hour (36 mph). – Wikipedia
