A rainforest is an area of tall, mostly evergreen trees and a high amount of rainfall. Rainforests are Earth’s oldest living ecosystems, with some surviving in their present form for at least 70 million years. They are incredibly diverse and complex, home to more than half of the world’s plant and animal species—even though they cover just 6% of Earth’s surface. This makes rainforests astoundingly dense with flora and fauna. Rainforests’ rich biodiversity is incredibly important to our well-being and the well-being of our planet.

I went for a walk this afternoon in Ariundle Ancient Oakwoodland hoping for a picture but not expecting much. But then, amongst the old oaks and the stands of silver birch trees I found the "moss balls", granite boulders, some of which I fondled to discover the moss was a full 12 inches thick on some humps.

The Pacific Northwest and it's temperate rainforest provides recreation, jobs and habitat for a variety of animals and plants. I took this picture in Washington just a short walk from my truck at a rest area.
A friendly circle. They are all admiring the one yellow and black froggie in their group, who is very much enjoying their admiration! Of course each of these tiny frogs are so amazing in their colors and patterns, both as toys and all the more in real life!

The Tarra Valley Rainforest Walk is in South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia, and the walk showcases giant Mountain Ash trees and ancient Myrtle Beeches as it meanders through lush fern glades. The Tarra-Bulga National Park is situated at the eastern end of the Grand Ridge Road - - -To ramble amongst the cool and verdant greenery of the ferns lifts the human spirit higher than the highest Mountain Ash - Graeme O'Rourke. . . . . .Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM.
Temperate rainforest is probably less diverse and definitely not as colourful as tropical one – but it is still captivating and full of all kinds of life. Taking many shots of it in early November (which was appropriately very rainy), I have arrived to the conclusion that I need to try and do some radically different in postprocessing to make those shots interesting. The lush greenery went away - and instead you see less – or maybe more. It depends on how you look ;-)

A wonderful creek descending from the mountain range in a little provincial park. I absolutely love the moss in the rainforest.
There are a couple of single lane wooden bridges on the dirt road to the Paluma Dam. Pulling over and exploring is so worthwhile. The creeks are simply beautiful with pristine water flowing pretty much all year round.
I really loved Panama City. You can be in the surrounding rainforest in the morning watching exotic birds. With less than a 1/2 kilometer walk, you can then have a picnic along the Panama Canal lazily watching large boats floating by. By evening, and a 45 minute bus ride, you are back in this big and ultra modern city for a lovely walk and a beautiful skyline.
