Figeater beetle larvae have six small stiff legs; so to move, they roll onto their backs and wiggle, gaining traction with the hairs on their backs. I manage to roll this one onto its "upside" to "race" for just a second.

Race Point Light is an historic lighthouse on Cape Cod, in Provincetown, Massachusetts; it is on the National Register of Historic Places. The original tower, first illuminated in 1816, was replaced in 1876 with the current 45-foot tall iron-plated tower and a new keeper's dwelling. The American Lighthouse Foundation operates the property and rents out two buildings for overnight stays. The actual light is maintained by the Coast Guard. The site is reached by walking about 45 minutes over sand; with a National Park Service Oversand Permit, a four-wheel-drive vehicle can be used.

Race Point Light was first established in 1816, the third light on Cape Cod (after Highland Light (1797) and Chatham Light (1808). The original light was a 25 feet (7.6 m) rubblestone tower that featured one of the earliest rotating beacons, which distinguished it from others on Cape Cod. In 1858 the light got a fourth order Fresnel lens and, in 1874, a second keeper's quarters.

In 1876, after significant deterioration of the original tower, it was replaced with a 45-foot tall cast iron tower lined with brick. The Fresnel lens was installed into the new tower. The original keeper's stone house was removed and replaced with one made of wood. Race Point Light was electrified in 1957. The larger keeper's house was removed in 1960 and the other was updated. The light was automated in 1972.

In 1995 the group updated the keeper's house and began offering rooms for overnight stays in 1998. A solar electrical system was installed in October 2003, and a wind turbine back-up generator was added in 2007. The light now uses a solar-powered VRB-25 optic with 400,000 candlepower, operated by the Coast Guard. Operation of the site is by the American Lighthouse Foundation. Tours are available on the first and third Saturdays from June until October. Both the Keeper's House and the Whistle House are available for overnight rental.

Race Point Light was added to the National Register of Historic Places as Race Point Light Station on June 15, 1987, reference number 87001482. (Wikipedia.)

In memory of my Nikon FE which I sold this weekend. I found these kids riding their ATV's around a pound back in October 2020. They are social distancing for sure. An older film shot taken on Kentmere 100, with a Nikon FE.

Traffic zips by on the Schuylkill Expressway between the Philadelphia Art Museum and Amtrak's Race Street Engine House. Marker lights glow red on three generations of power in the yard this night, the oldest being the line of Geeps in the middle of the frame. Some are over 50 years old and all were rebuilt over time, used mostly in maintenance and other non-revenue service. They've outlasted many other Amtrak power types in longevity by avoiding the daily miles that passenger service requires and may outlive some of the younger types in the frame, including the P42DC.

This sport takes back ancestral traditions which allowed the Inuits to survive in the big Arctic deserts and represent the link with the nature.

Fast, exciting, well trained sled dog teams are the result of careful behind the scenes planning and hard work. Successful mushers are knowledgeable in such diverse areas as kennel management, canine behavior, nutrition, veterinary care, psychology, physical conditioning, housing and transportation. Wise mushers soon learn that success or failure in any of these areas affects performance dramatically. Considering this fact it is obvious that the welfare of the dogs is of paramount importance.

Team and driver develop a close, trusting relationship because of the amount of time they spend together. To betray that trust by not meeting all of the dog’s needs runs counter to the goal of having a happy, healthy, highly motivated team.

What you see at a race is the result of long hours of work and planning to ensure that the team is prepared to test its abilities against the trail and the competition.

The race is on, as two trains speed west on BNSF's Needles Subdivision. The first train in the shot is passing through Bagdad, but the Z train in the distance, running on the opposite track, will soon overtake the manifest on their climb to Ash Hill. The iconic Route 66 parallels the tracks, and can be seen off to the right.

Looks like Vinzent likes what he sees in the "warp speed speedometer".

This cardboard racecar was made by his Mom and Dad on top of a wagon for Halloween. They used painter's tape on the cardboard to get the stripes while spray-painting the cardboard. And they were quite inventive with cardboard tubes and aluminum foil to make the cart.

This was edited in Photoshop Elements 14 trying out the smudge tool along with some others.

The racecar and Vinzent are a separate layer. The background was then "smudged" with the tool that stretches the image. First the rearview mirrors were smudged, then the "spoiler" and then Vinzent's hair. The background colors were hue shifted (dropdown menus under "Enhance" get to the color adjustments) so the brown leaves became green.

Dear friends!

Thank you so much for your kind comments and visits! They are appreciated. Stay safe dears
