when this appeared on the pool this afternoon, I assumed it was a 2nd winter bird having a "Bad Hair Day". Do not remember seeing a sinensis race close to before although the book says they are common in UK. normal ones I see are Cormorant - Phalacrocorax carbo. sinensis race are sometimes reffered to as "Continental" & are slightly smaller than carbo
The moon was due to rise a little after the Milky Way. This made for a bit of a race to capture an image Milky Way before scattered light washed out my subject. Just a hint against an already brightening sky. Still love to see it even if not well! Light from the campground and a long exposure for the landscape. Cheers!
I took this race car photo at the Smithsonian's Folklife Festival in Washington, DC today. This car was at the Northern Ireland exhibit.
On the Patch - There was a time not long ago when seeing a sinensis race Cormorant was a big deal in the uk . They are the race that breed in Southern Europe and occasionally drifted into the uk . They nest in trees, quite often inland rather than on cliffs on the coast. In the last few years, a colony has started near Widnes and now over 100 pairs breed, so on my patch, I now get predominetly sinensis birds , but still at Pennington Flash the uk race predominate . They are slightly smaller , a bit more striking in the wings, and the Yellow /orange patch on the face is a different shape than the uk race .
I do not take the photograph of many trains, but it is because there are few places suitable for photography. In the case of this place, I think that it is a place at all suitable for the photography that there are many train tracks, and a fence is low. But it may not be suitable for a walk because there are many accommodations for couples in these outskirts.

July 4, 1981 - Atlanta, Georgia - I had to go way back for this one. Almost for sure shot with a Nikon FM and a 180mm lens. Definitely Tri-X developed in D-76 1-1.
The water spray has always been a part of the post race celebration. A quick way to cool dawn after a 10K run in July heat.

Expect the unexpected!
We had intended to see friends in Udine on the Friday, but there was a rail strike. So we went on Saturday.
I'd noticed that the rally went to Udine but thought no more of it.
As we walked into Piazza della Liberta the cars were coming through...
Race Mitteleuropean took place in Trieste over the weekend 20 - 22 May 2022
There were three key parts:
* A rally for pre-1976 cars
* A rally for "supercars and Gran Turismo". Mainly Ferraris
* A display of classic cars in Trieste
The first day of the rally went through Friuli Venezia Giulia from Trieste up to San Danieli via Udine then back along the coast.
The second day went from Trieste into Slovenia and then back via Muggia
NJDOT GG-1 No. 4875 is two years away from retirement as it is spotted crossing the Raritan River drawbridge into South Amboy with train 3311 on 24 August 1981. The classic motor was built in 1939 by PRR's Juniata Shops with electrical equipment supplied by General Electric.
