Salvador Dali did not have a lot of quotable material... but i do like this one:

is that i am not mad."

If you’d like to view my images larger… While I only allow my contacts to view my larger images (I generally upload at least 800px images on the long axis)…
a quick workaround I might suggest is to view my photostream as a slideshow. Works well for me. This is frequently how I view others’ ‘streams, and it will put a large image on black. just click the projector screen icon next to the stream or set. : )

GST Eastern Voles Christmas gathering at Flitton Moor
19/12/2017
Hi All & Tim
May I add my thanks to you all and wish you a happy Christmas and lots of good Voling together in 2018. I cannot wait. All those bonfires, cakes and sarcastic humour.
I thought I would be clever and write a piece about Tuesday incorporating some relevant quotes but the effort has quite overtaken me. So here instead are a few lines from a very wise & quotable Englishman .
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humour.
I loved her against reason, against promise, against peace, against hope, against happiness, against all discouragement that could be.
Never close your lips to those whom you have already opened your heart.
There are books of which the backs and covers are by far the best parts.
We forge the chains we wear in life.
No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of it to anyone else.
There are dark shadows on the earth, but its lights are stronger in the contrast.
The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again.
Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts.
The whole difference between construction and creation is exactly this: that a thing constructed can only be loved after it is constructed; but a thing created is loved before it exists.
There are loads more to choose from and I have to say I was very surprised, perhaps I should read some of his books instead of relying on BBC Childrens Dramas from my earlier years when, hard to believe I was a sprog with hopes and the occasional dream, many of which have been far exceeded in life.
My snaps from Flitton are as usual at www.flickr.com/photos/pitzys_pyx/

Hi All,
Many thanks for all your hard work at Flitton Moor on Tuesday. We were slightly down on the usual numbers but it didn’t stop you getting a whole lot done! I know David was pleased with the result and in his own words:
Thanks to all those who turned out on Tuesday at Flitton Moor - you did an amazing job as always.
Re fencing: I was expecting at the very most that half of the fence would be completed - and you did 2 thirds of it. Well done. The FoFM will finish it shortly in the new year.
Thanks also to those who manned the fire - and dragged brash to it. Almost all the was cut down was burnt.
And a special mention to the 6 hardy souls who spent the morning digging nettles.
A Merry Christmas to all, and a healthy 2018,
David
Thank you also to Lucinda, Sue and Erika for helping out with refreshments at lunchtime and to Malcolm and Jackie for such a lovely cake.
The next Tuesday task will be at Sandy Smith on the 2nd January and will be doing a bit more thinning/coppicing in the plantation near the bridge over the Flit plus maybe a few other jobs.
But there will also be a task at Maulden Heath next Thursday (28th) if anyone wishes to come along. The task will be clearing brash and regeneration in the Adder Field and, of course, having a fire; meet at the Picnic Area at 10am.
Thanks for all your hard work this year and I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and Happy New Year!

The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) Lagos on 18 July 2017 took the observance of the Nelson Mandela International Day to two cities in South West Nigeria. Two events were held at Freedom Park Lagos and St. Louis Girls Grammar School, Mokola Ibadan, Oyo State, reaching over 640 people comprising of students, NGOs and media. At the Lagos event which was attended by the Nobel Laurette for Literature, Prof Wole Soyinka and the Consul-General of the South African High Commission, Lagos, Mr Darkey Africa, participants engaged in 67 minutes of community service, students recited Mandela's quotable quotes, watched a film on the life of Nelson Mandela while Zulu dancers staged an exciting performance. In his remarks, the Nobel Laurette for Literature, Prof Wole Soyinka paid tributes to Nelson Mandela describing him as an embodiment of humanism, service and leadership. Speaking, the Consul-General of the South African High Commission, Lagos, Mr Darkey Africa noted that the legacy of Nelson Mandela resonates beyond the shores. The event in Ibadan also featured educational briefing of students, Nelson Mandela Quotable Quotes, film screening and 67 minutes of clean-up. The two events were held in collaboration with United Nations Association of Nigeria (UNAAN) and Global Youth Leadership & Girl-Child Foundation (GYLGF).

My favourite urban griot, Gil Scott-Heron, is sorely missed. Here we find him in peak satire mode in the Deadwood saloon in the company of the embodiment of nostalgic myth-making, John Wayne, and the pale imitation of B-movie lore that America settled for, Ronald Reagan (or the Hollyweird Ronald the Ray-Gun as Gil would so quotably put it).
Dig The B movie theory:
"The idea concerns the fact that this country wants nostalgia.
They want to go back as far as they can – even if it’s only as far as last week. Not to face now or tomorrow, but to face backwards. And yesterday was the day of our cinema heroes riding to the rescue at the last possible moment. The day of the man in the white hat or the man on the white horse - or the man who always came to save America at the last moment – someone always came to save America at the last moment – especially in "B" movies. And when America found itself having a hard time facing the future, they looked for people like John Wayne. But since John Wayne was no longer available, they settled for Ronald Reagan – and it has placed us in a situation that we can only look at – like a "B" movie..."
I put it this way four years ago at the height of the George W. Bush years:
We are living in a moment where nostalgia is key, we're anesthetizing ourselves with cowboy politics, selective amnesia and worse, when we'd rather have John Wayne. And Baghdad and New Orleans are not the only ones who can testify to that insight.
Gil Scott-Heron is one the great satirists, punctuating his critique with a melodious line and a soulful groove. It's uncanny how he does it, that you can't help but nod your head, tap your feet and laugh out loud even as you want to cry at what he is saying. His body of work is heroic, his prescience altogether scary.
But it is hard living as a canary in a mineshaft, if no one is listening and home is where the hatred is, can it be a surprise if there only remain fractured pieces of a man? Dig: I too might drown myself in fugitive spirits.
Anyway let's kick some urban griot poetry around this joint. Or should we call it soul food?
...And is there honey still for tea?

7 Days of Shooting/Week #10 - Quotable Quotes/Thoroughly Abstract Thursday
As it says above, 2 birthdays: Hal Ashby, director and Mark Harmon, actor (among others today such as my brother's daughter Lilli and Billy Preston!).
1)What can I say bout this movie? It is quite the divider among the people I talk to about it. Mostly ick. I dunno what for, its heartwarming to me. I always kind of feel like Harold, as though I dont fit in and feeling like my parents dont listen or ignore me. i know that sounds strange considering how much I depend on them and spend time with them but there is a bit of a distance between us though that exists where I dont fully connect with them. Anyway, The story is so heartwarming, like I said, and so charming and heartbreaking as well. Its so innocent and in that in between time where the innocence of the 60s had gone away and the cynicism of the 70s was coming soon. Harold is caught in that innocence and Maude is the last of the truly gifted people who want to create however her backstory, only eluded to and handwaved is darker than what Harold is going through with his fake suicides and being generally "crazy". The cast is amazing. Its funny seeing Ruth Gordon like Maude especially if you grew up seeing her as Ma on the movie Every Which Way But Loose (Haspitable, HA-SHIT!) or as Rosemary's neighbour in Rosemary's Baby (where she genuinely creeped me out). She is so bright and I feel like this is how she really was in real life. Hal really captured that to make her endearing. NO ONE could play Maude like her. Bud Cort as Harold comes off the same way. So naive but cynical and wanting to EXPLODE. Bud just commands so much of the performance with nods and looks and his droll delivery in some scenes. Christina Pickles as his mother is also so amazing as you totally believe she is this woman. The soundtrack by Cat Stevens is so timeless and adds so much to the movie that tears always for when I think of or hear those songs. They are sad and brave and inspiring, all at once. They are some of the first songs I put on my ipod back in the 2000s when I got my first gen video playing kind (which STILL works!). Def one of my favourite Hal Ashby films. HBD HAL! <3
(PS the cover on the right is the one I bought originally that i was going to buy on my birthday from a Best Buy opening up on my birthday in 2000 something but they didnt have it, of course. Later, I got the Criterion version too. I have also seen it at a special screening during Cinema Tuesdays one summer in 2014 or so and YES, I cried.)
2) Summer School will always be a favourite, since I watched it a LOT as a teenager and later. It has such quotable lines and characters that make you feel comfy. Its really the first movie I ever saw Mark in and later, when I began watching NCIS, I actually watched it for Pauley Perette b/c she was a crush I saw on Drew Carey Show like 2 times. What can I say, I like me some Goth girls with raspy voices. It didnt even occur to me that was Mr. Shoop. I have met some of the cast and they always get a kick out of my dvd b/c I doubt people have heard of this movie let alone watched it. It has a really great message too that kind of really seems to be unique to this movie. Plus I loved Dean Cameron it so much, I eventually became Chainsaw (and Dave) by watching horror films for most of my life after high school and into post adolescence.
Def check it out. HBD MARK!!! <3

Gotta love the movie Zoolander. One of the most quotable movies ever.
The Magic Mouse was my Christmas present from Casey. She definitely knows what to get to make a nerd happy :) It's a touch sensitive mouse that's just flat out awesome. I'm very happy with it.
Today I went to Olive Garden with my entire Dad's side of the family and it was quite fun. I also set up a photoshoot for the family to get the photo for our new years card and whotnot. My aunt gave me a large piece of dark navy velvet cloth that worked quite well as a background for the portraits. It's kinda sad because today was my last real day of winter break. Tomorrow doesn't count because I'm going to be spending the whole time catching up on homework. No fun.
The picture? I set up the shot and wasn't exactly sure what kind of pose I wanted so I tried close to 50 different shots. This one specifically reminded me of the "Zoolander Pose" which is basically the reason why I chose it. There are several other good ones too.
I am pretty happy with the lighting setup here, I'm starting to get better with two strobes.
Strobist: Vivitar 383 into white umrella camera left. Vivitar 383 into white umbrella low camera right. Triggered via Cactus v4 and Vivitar on slave mode.

Another GREAT 90's song. I never get tired of this song no matter how many times I hear it.

ZOMG. Speaking of "Magic", today's date is the same thing backwards. WHOAAAA
Sunday afternoon on Mount Clod. It wasn’t exactly planned you know. Augustus “Dad” Dusted and neighbor Finley Flay took their wives for a Sunday outing on the Downtown Dirtpile Transit (DDT) to the top of Mount Clod.
Their Jitney Touring Coach hit a dime on the tracks and derailed. So while DDT rail men worked to right the cars and return them to the trolley track, the touring couples and other passengers strolled the rocky terrain taking in some sunshine. Two other coaches stopped to give aid (it was the only track) and soon the entire transit company was atop Mount Clod, not to mention most of the population of Dirtpile City.
Gus and Dorothy, Finley and Faye posed on some rocks in the sun while another passenger with a box camera took this picture.
Later the next week Finley remarked, “Your friend with the pointed hat was a bit strange.” He blew a bit of foam off his schooner of lager.
To which Gus replied after a long pull on a cool draft, “My friend? I thought she was your friend! I don’t know her.”
“Gosh Darn!” (Actually not an exact quote,) “I gave her a hundred bucks because she said she was collecting money for your birthday!” said Finley.
“NO! She said the same of you and I gave her a fiver,” Said Gus and he belched.
“I believe we have been bilked a bit,” fumed Finley. “Wait a minute. A fiver?”
The conversation that followed is also not quotable but continued far into the night ending only at closing time, as far as anyone knows.
It turned out to be a nice photograph even if in the background Ezzard Yoost did choose that very moment to practice flashing.

I was watching "The 40 Year Old Virgin" while taking this, so it wasn't hard to capture a laugh. That movie kills me every time!
GST Eastern Voles Christmas gathering at Flitton Moor

Cheers JP
Hi All,
Many thanks for all your hard work at Flitton Moor on Tuesday.

Trying to branch out geographically and culturally, I accepted Chad's invitation to see Marc Ribot play some mean jazz guitar at Yoshi's in Oaktown. Some of it was experimental, and some of it was good. I rather enjoyed the evening. I liked the bluesy number and disliked the clowning of a local saxophonist he brought up on stage at the end. No worries. Some really nice music, all-in-all - I would go again. Thanks for the invite, Chad.
After we got our wine, Kenneth had a quotable, "It is good to contemplate the subtleties of bad wine while listening to complex music," or something to that effect.
To top it off, it turns out that Yoshi's cheated us. A wine that listed as Old Vine Zinfandel was delivered as a simple California at the same price. Neither the waitress nor the manager could offer any redress and we (Chad - thanks) ended up paying for it with the small promise of talking to the owner tomorrow. Talk about taking a minor glitch and turning it into a major issue. Pathetic. Utterly. Makes it seem even more likely to be systematic and intentional cheating of customers.
My birthday. I turned 30 today on the 15th of Oct. Mom was in the Blue Ridge looking at leaves(she saw Andy Griffith there too. I'd spent a week watching old episodes of "Dragnet" from the 1960s on Hulu. It was a pretty day, Dad went out and waxed his car. I watched college football with the windows open and ate some red beans and rice soup.Later on that day I watched UVA vs. Georgia Tech at home and a Buffalo Wild Wings. UVA won.Had carribean jerk wings, hot bqq wings and honey bbq wings along with Bud Lights and buffalo chips. It was fun. Went over to feed my moms cats. Then come home to stream VA Tech vs. Wake Forest. Then went to my buddy Garnetts house and alotta folks were there and they had me a party with a cake and all. Very nice. Also watched the race at Charlotte Motor Speedway at home and at Garnetts. Me and some others talked and listened to heavy metal. Drew was the highlight of the night, bein extra drunk and usings a rack room shoes koozy with a Carolina Panthers logo on the other side." No wonder im depressed, im drinkin out of a rack room shoes koozy..." We later put his SCOOTUH inside garnetts house and he started it up and rid it a few feet and we all laughed . That sums up my birthday. Ive known drew for years hes always had plenty of quotables, along with his Marlboro miles jacket circa 1995.

Apollo 13 Mission - Quote by James A Lovell - "Houston we've had a problem"
The craft was launched on April 11, 1970, from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, but the lunar landing was aborted after an oxygen tank exploded two days later, crippling the service module upon which the Command Module depended. Despite great hardship caused by limited power, loss of cabin heat, shortage of potable water, and the critical need to jury-rig the carbon dioxide removal system, the crew returned safely to Earth on April 17.

The Volvo FH and FH16 is a heavy truck range introduced in 1993, replacing the F cabover series. FH stands for Forward control High entry, where numbers denominate engine capacity in litres. The FH range is one of the most successful truck series ever having sold more than 400,000 units worldwide having regular upgrades.
In September 2012 Volvo Trucks re-launched the 3rd generation Volvo FH with major technology upgrades and new design. The company also introduced the first of its Euro VI engines, the D13K which is available as an option on the new Volvo FH and compulsory for new trucks in Europe from January 2014 Other quotable new features are the I-torque driveline and the I-see fuel-saving technology. With the new thirteen-litre engine, the name has changed to FH13.
The truck received a facelift in 2020, with most notably a new headlight design, an updated interior, new safety features, and efficiency improvements, with pre-facelift models remaining available in certain markets as the Volvo FH Classic.
The FH received a minor update in 2024, featuring new LED roof lights, revised logo and badging, updated I-See, updated aerodynamics,

lo-fem: darlingmaxi: nnekbone: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie quotables... (via www.buzzfeed.com) ✌️ Love her! [A series of quotes from author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie on colored squares with certain words enlarged for emphasis. 1. Power is the ability not just to tell the story of another person, but to make it the definitive story of that person. 2. Show a people as one thing, only one thing, over and over again, and that is what they become. 3. Our histories cling to us. We are shaped by where we come from. 4. A student told me it was such a shame the Nigerian men were physical abusers like the father character in my novel. I told him that I had recently read a novel called American Psycho and that it was a shame that young americans were serial murderers. 5. I often make the mistake of thinking that something that is obvious to me is obvious to everyone else. 6. His advice to me (and he was shaking his head sadly as he spoke) was that I should never call myself a feminist because feminists are women who are unhappy because they cannot find husbands. 7. At some point I was a Happy African Feminist who does not hate men. And who likes lip gloss and wears high heels for herself and not for men. 8. About 52% of the world’s population are women. But most of the positions of power and prestige are occupied by men. The late Kenyan Nobel Peace Laureate Wangari Maathai put it simply and well when she said, “The higher you go, the fewer women there are.” 9. Because of writers like Chinua Achebe and Camara Laye…I realized that people like me, girls with skin the color of chocolate, who’s kinky hair could not form ponytails, could also exist in literature. 10. My college roommate asked if she could listen to what she called my ‘tribal music,’ and was very disappointed when I produced my tape of Mariah Carey.] The one about Nigerian men being abusers is especially ironic because, if you read Purple Hibiscus, the protagonist’s father is literally the most “westernized” character in the book. As I read the character, I think he is presented as 100% a product of colonialism. He is a “good” colonized subject, fervently christian and against anything associated with Igbo traditions and religion, and he enforces his ideals onto his family with physical abuse. The patriarchal values he embodies are not Nigerian but British. That student missed the point like whoa.

Happy Weekend!!!
I could easily do an entire series of photos titled with lines from Fight Club. Because it is pretty much one of the most quotable films ever.
For TOTW's "Movie Lines" and TRP's "Single source lighting" (in this case, a desk lamp shining obnoxiously into my face. At the time i think it was supposed to be reminiscent of the light from the television, but i think that got lost in translation).
Also...and here i hesitate because...well, i don't think i fully appreciate what i'm doing, but...in the interest of NOT being "Jack's wasted life", um...
