Hi All & Tim

May I add my thanks to you all and wish you a happy Christmas and lots of good Voling together in 2018. I cannot wait. All those bonfires, cakes and sarcastic humour.

I thought I would be clever and write a piece about Tuesday incorporating some relevant quotes but the effort has quite overtaken me. So here instead are a few lines from a very wise & quotable Englishman .

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humour.

I loved her against reason, against promise, against peace, against hope, against happiness, against all discouragement that could be.

Never close your lips to those whom you have already opened your heart.

There are books of which the backs and covers are by far the best parts.

We forge the chains we wear in life.

No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of it to anyone else.

There are dark shadows on the earth, but its lights are stronger in the contrast.

The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again.

Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts.

The whole difference between construction and creation is exactly this: that a thing constructed can only be loved after it is constructed; but a thing created is loved before it exists.

There are loads more to choose from and I have to say I was very surprised, perhaps I should read some of his books instead of relying on BBC Childrens Dramas from my earlier years when, hard to believe I was a sprog with hopes and the occasional dream, many of which have been far exceeded in life.

Thanks to all those who turned out on Tuesday at Flitton Moor - you did an amazing job as always.

Re fencing: I was expecting at the very most that half of the fence would be completed - and you did 2 thirds of it. Well done. The FoFM will finish it shortly in the new year.

Thanks also to those who manned the fire - and dragged brash to it. Almost all the was cut down was burnt.

And a special mention to the 6 hardy souls who spent the morning digging nettles.

But there will also be a task at Maulden Heath next Thursday (28th) if anyone wishes to come along. The task will be clearing brash and regeneration in the Adder Field and, of course, having a fire; meet at the Picnic Area at 10am.

Filia repeats some of her common lines.

Day 260-Today is Tim Curry's 73rd birthday and I celebrated in his honour by watching these 2 movies.

1) Clue! This movie. When I saw this as a lid, I died laughing at all the weirdness and what makes it so much funnier is Tim as Wodsworth. His delivery and the way he plays with words and actions makes everyones reactions all that much more hilarious. It mustve been hard to work with hi, trying to keep a straight face during scenes. The movie itself is so quotable and memorable but only in cult status form it seems. I love how they have multiple endings and I read once that different theaters ran the different endings! How mad is that?!?!?

2) Charlie's Angels. While maybe not his most famous movie, he was right awesome in this as the evil corporate guy, up to a point where the plot somewhat changes. HE looked as though he was having fun on the set and with these girls, its hard not to see that.

I had a chance to meet Tim Curry at a convention and I have to say I was quite emotional and had to get composed before seeing him. The first time I had seen him was in Legend (my step cousin's sister was obsessed with the movie...because she liked unicorns...she was little), though at the time I had no idea. So then I see Clue and then put the two together. I have seen a number of his films but he is in so many, Im still watching them, as it were. I love how he is such a chameleon and is so different for each role but still has that Tim Curry about it. I hope he is doing better now. I'll find out soon, since he will he in Dallas at a con in May. He must be doing pretty good then. <3 HBD Tim!

What else is Scott known for saying? I'll wait.

John Trapp (5 June 1601, in Croome D'Abitot – 16 October 1669, in Weston-on-Avon), was an English Anglican Bible commentator. His large five-volume commentary is still read today and is known for its pithy statements and quotable prose; his volumes are quoted frequently by other religious writers.

State Capitol building and environs

Raleigh, NC (Wake County)

The Capitol Area Historic District includes this central square, the surrounding structures - churches on each corner and government offices facing the capitol - and streets extending to the east and west. These streets include a number of distinguished and representative domestic buildings and churches. No commercial buildings are represented. Though the buildings represent a plethora of styles and periods, there is a persistent, identifiable continuity with few intrusions (except for gap sites created by large parking areas). The boundaries of the district roughly correspond to the locally designated historic district. (1)

The square itself became a landscape of commemoration for noble deeds, sacrifices, achievements, sayings, and official sentiments of the state. A third of the memorials pay tribute to individual and events of the Civil War. The largest and earliest of these, a Confederate monument erected in 1894, features a tall stone shaft on an elaborate base, with two statues, decorations, and inscriptions, and cannon placed at Fort Caswell during the War. Other Civil lvar monuments include Gutzon Borglum's statue of Henry Lawwon Wyatt of Bethel, North Carolina, said to have been the first soldier to die in battle; sculptor Augustus Lukeman's sentimental tribute to the women of the Confederacy (1914); a plaque honoring Samuel A'Court Ashe (1840-1938), last surviving commissioned officer of the Confederate States Army and noted editor.

The non-Civil War monuments include a mid-nineteenth century copy of Houdon's statue of Washington; F. H. Packer's statue of Worth Bagley, first American killed in action in the Spanish-American War; statues of Zebulon B. Vance (by H. J. Ellicot) and Charles Aycock, each flanked by tablets of bas reliefs by Borglum and quotable quotations; statue of noted educator Charles Duncan Mciver (1806-1906) by Ruchstuhl; and a large tableau (1948) of the three presidents of the United States claimed by North Carolina: James K. Polk, Andrew Jackson, and Andrew Johnson. (1)

Dad's PMMA batchmate and companion for 18mos. on his 1st ship voyage, Tito Tisoy, came over and visited us with his son, Arvic. Hi All & Tim

May I add my thanks to you all and wish you a happy Christmas and lots of good Voling together in 2018. I cannot wait. All those bonfires, cakes and sarcastic humour.

I thought I would be clever and write a piece about Tuesday incorporating some relevant quotes but the effort has quite overtaken me. So here instead are a few lines from a very wise & quotable Englishman .

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humour.

I loved her against reason, against promise, against peace, against hope, against happiness, against all discouragement that could be.

Never close your lips to those whom you have already opened your heart.

There are books of which the backs and covers are by far the best parts.

We forge the chains we wear in life.

No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of it to anyone else.

There are dark shadows on the earth, but its lights are stronger in the contrast.

The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again.

Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts.

The whole difference between construction and creation is exactly this: that a thing constructed can only be loved after it is constructed; but a thing created is loved before it exists.

There are loads more to choose from and I have to say I was very surprised, perhaps I should read some of his books instead of relying on BBC Childrens Dramas from my earlier years when, hard to believe I was a sprog with hopes and the occasional dream, many of which have been far exceeded in life.

Hi All,

Many thanks for all your hard work at Flitton Moor on Tuesday. We were slightly down on the usual numbers but it didn’t stop you getting a whole lot done! I know David was pleased with the result and in his own words:

Thanks to all those who turned out on Tuesday at Flitton Moor - you did an amazing job as always.

Re fencing: I was expecting at the very most that half of the fence would be completed - and you did 2 thirds of it. Well done. The FoFM will finish it shortly in the new year.

Thanks also to those who manned the fire - and dragged brash to it. Almost all the was cut down was burnt.

And a special mention to the 6 hardy souls who spent the morning digging nettles.

I chose this movie as it is a very quotable movie. I can pick out quotes from every scene captured in this poster. I based my poster off of the original movie poster. For a Predator fan, these scenes are all very iconic and I put more quotes in the base of the poster where the credits would usually sit.

Any Given Saturday's stirring charge only to fall the barest of noses short to 2006 juvenile male champion Street Sense in the Tampa Bay Derby (G3) certainly ranks as one of the most exciting finishes on this year's Triple Crown trail. Any Given Saturday lost valuable ground when he had to go wide around the final turn while Street Sense saved ground and found a lane nearest the rail for his final run. While Street Sense's tenacity can't be discounted, particularly in view of the fact that he set a track record of 1:43.11 for the 1 1/16-mile distance, it leaves unanswered the question of whether Any Given Saturday might have collared Street Sense with a better trip.

The bigger question is, how much did the race take out of both of the colts?

Trainer Todd Pletcher reported several days after the Tampa Bay Derby that Any Given Saturday had come out of the race in good order and that the race apparently did not take that much out of the colt.

In defeat, Any Given Saturday gained a lot of admirers, not the least of which was Street Sense's trainer, Carl Nafzger.

"I've said a thousand times [Street Sense] is a helluva colt, as is Any Given Saturday, as I told Todd [Pletcher]," Nafzger said. "I congratulated him. Of all the three-year-olds that have come along, except for Breeders' Cup horses, his horse is about the best. He really ran his race. I hand it to Todd. I still think [Any Given Saturday is] one of the best horses in the crop."

Nafzger is taking Street Sense to the Blue Grass Stakes (G1) for his final Kentucky Derby (G1) prep.

"I hear Any Given Saturday is going to the Blue Grass," Nafzger said. "I wish to hell he'd go somewhere else."

Nafzger got his wish ten days before the Blue Grass when trainer Todd Pletcher decided Any Given Saturday might have a slightly easier spot in the April 7 Wood Memorial Stakes (G1) after deciding not to run Circular Quay in that race.

But Any Given Saturday failed to duplicate his Tampa Bay Derby charge in the Wood, finishing third behind winner Nobiz Like Shobiz.

"He stumbled a little out of the gate," jockey John Velazquez said. "He just acted different today. Halfway around the first turn I was able to drop behind the horses and save a little ground. He had a lot to do, getting pushed out on the first turn. I had to go sooner than I wanted to at the half-mile pole to get up with him. He ran a really hard race at Tampa. With his trip today, it was just a lot to ask."

Future Plans

While trainer Rodd Pletcher was understandable disappointed in the third-place finish in the Wood Memorial (G1), the Kentucky Derby (G1) remains on the agenda. "Maybe the three weeks off got to him, but I still believe [Any Given Saturday] is a good horse," Pletcher said. "He should have got enough earnings to secure a position in the Kentucky Derby. We got the four weeks off between races we wanted, and the earnings, but we will have to step up a notch to get it done."
