I took this at Easter in a small town in the South of Italy - San Marco in Lamis (FG) Puglia. They do the usual Good Friday parade and re-enact Jesus carrying the cross and with people carrying the Madonna but they also make these enormous torches (Le Fracchie) which they haul along in massive groups, drink beer and practically burn the town down. It's a sort of "whose is biggest" contest and a brilliant party!

Hi All & Tim

May I add my thanks to you all and wish you a happy Christmas and lots of good Voling together in 2018. I cannot wait. All those bonfires, cakes and sarcastic humour.

I thought I would be clever and write a piece about Tuesday incorporating some relevant quotes but the effort has quite overtaken me. So here instead are a few lines from a very wise & quotable Englishman .

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humour.

I loved her against reason, against promise, against peace, against hope, against happiness, against all discouragement that could be.

Never close your lips to those whom you have already opened your heart.

There are books of which the backs and covers are by far the best parts.

We forge the chains we wear in life.

No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of it to anyone else.

There are dark shadows on the earth, but its lights are stronger in the contrast.

The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again.

Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts.

The whole difference between construction and creation is exactly this: that a thing constructed can only be loved after it is constructed; but a thing created is loved before it exists.

There are loads more to choose from and I have to say I was very surprised, perhaps I should read some of his books instead of relying on BBC Childrens Dramas from my earlier years when, hard to believe I was a sprog with hopes and the occasional dream, many of which have been far exceeded in life.

Many thanks for all your hard work at Flitton Moor on Tuesday. We were slightly down on the usual numbers but it didn’t stop you getting a whole lot done! I know David was pleased with the result and in his own words:

Thanks to all those who turned out on Tuesday at Flitton Moor - you did an amazing job as always.

Re fencing: I was expecting at the very most that half of the fence would be completed - and you did 2 thirds of it. Well done. The FoFM will finish it shortly in the new year.

Thanks also to those who manned the fire - and dragged brash to it. Almost all the was cut down was burnt.

And a special mention to the 6 hardy souls who spent the morning digging nettles.

But there will also be a task at Maulden Heath next Thursday (28th) if anyone wishes to come along. The task will be clearing brash and regeneration in the Adder Field and, of course, having a fire; meet at the Picnic Area at 10am.

May I add my thanks to you all and wish you a happy Christmas and lots of good Voling together in 2018. I cannot wait. All those bonfires, cakes and sarcastic humour.

I thought I would be clever and write a piece about Tuesday incorporating some relevant quotes but the effort has quite overtaken me. So here instead are a few lines from a very wise & quotable Englishman .

Wiz Khalifa prepares for the release of his next project "Big Pimpin" and drops off his single "Slim Peter."

You already know when Wiz Khalifa drops a track, it's time to catch a vibe. The military brat has already shared that he's releasing a new set of tunes soon with his Big Pimpin project, adding that he plans on sharing one half of the project one week and the other half at a later date. In the wee morning hours od Wednesday (July 8), Wiz released his latest single "Slim Peter," and while we aren't too sure whether or not this track will make it's way to Big Pimpin, we can only hope.

With Statik Selektah behind the production, "Slim Peter" was fitted to be a breath of fresh hip hop air in the middle of this hot July week. I put the quote on the photo today, as well as in the title to fit today's FGR challenge. By the way, Jane Austen is one of my favorite authors of classics. :o)

Good day so far. I did find out yesterday that I have to wait a little longer before I find out if I got the job or not. But, my hopes are still good that this will all work out.

These are my notes/sketches from Meshforum 2006 in San Francisco. Please add notes, tags and comments liberally. Thanks in advance for your metadata!

I was underwhelmed by this monastery. Unfortunately I hadn't read any of the guide books before visiting it, and only found out much too late that this place is in fact well worth the visit. I just ducked in, saw that it was a major tourist attraction, that this part (built after a fire destroyed the original in 1675) had been extensively restored in the last couple of years, with lots of glass panels to give glimpses of frescoes and herd bleating visitors through the turnstiles.

What I failed to understand is that this is only the tip of the iceberg. Underneath it is a huge cliff - the Rock of the name of the place - and a church is carved into the cliff below.

So if you Google on this place you'll see nothing like this shot, but lots of snaps of a rather spectacular Roman cloister from around 1200 and some interesting-looking Mozarabic details.

Ah, well. You give yourself away. But then, I'm atheist, so buildings to the glory of god have always confused me.

I enjoy investing things with meaning, and there's a good deal of symbolism in this shot - and, as usual, its title.

Most of my recent photos are titled with lines by Laurie Anderson. I've always liked her lyrics, but re-listening to some of her musical poetry has brought her mother-lode of quotable lines back to the forefront of my mind.

The west side of Basha Kill is where the D&H Canal was. It officially closed in 1902. As usual, I cannot get over the amount of work that went into building this, and now it’s just a ruin in the woods.

Who knows about this? Compared to back in The Day, nobody knows about it anymore. Can you picture this with mules and boats and industry and anthracite and noise and no trees? I can’t. Crazy.

Hi All & Tim

May I add my thanks to you all and wish you a happy Christmas and lots of good Voling together in 2018. I cannot wait. All those bonfires, cakes and sarcastic humour.

I thought I would be clever and write a piece about Tuesday incorporating some relevant quotes but the effort has quite overtaken me. So here instead are a few lines from a very wise & quotable Englishman .

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

There is nothing in the world so irresistibly contagious as laughter and good humour.

I loved her against reason, against promise, against peace, against hope, against happiness, against all discouragement that could be.

Never close your lips to those whom you have already opened your heart.

There are books of which the backs and covers are by far the best parts.

We forge the chains we wear in life.

No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of it to anyone else.

There are dark shadows on the earth, but its lights are stronger in the contrast.

The pain of parting is nothing to the joy of meeting again.

I've have heard the description above before but cannot find who coined the phrase. In "Word Weaving ... the science of suggestion" by Silvestor and Brookhouse, famous psychoanalyst, Karen Horney, is described as saying, there are 3 types of people ... those who move toward people (outgoing and friendly?), those who move away (shy loners?) and those who move against others. For the latter, life is a battle. She said "they can become very prickly, take offense easily and pick a fight with a mirror" I'm sure you all know someone just like that!
