A final fleeting and quick glance at the Common Shearwater (I do hope I have identified him right) before we and he disappear into the distance. Shearwaters come to islands and coastal cliffs only to breed. They are nocturnal at the colonial breeding sites, preferring moonless nights to minimize predation. They nest in burrows and often give eerie contact calls on their night-time visits. They lay a single white egg. They feed on fish, squid, and similar oceanic food. Some will follow fishing boats to take scraps or follow whales to feed on fish disturbed by them. (Bay Bulls near St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, June 2015)

After a quick breakfast, we were taken on a ride by the smaller service boat into the Conservation Zone. Now we did not at that point know what exactly was in there, except that it was an opportunity for some kayaking, something I was not inclined to do as I have never done it before in my life and certainly didn't want to cut my teeth on the open sea! At any rate, photography is my primary passion, and it would be difficult to do that while kayaking, which requires the use of both hands. We are heading to the gap between the two karst mountains now, and will be following that boat which is ahead of us. I was surprised that one of the large cruise boats has ventured this close to the Conservation Zone. (Ha Long Bay, Vietnam, Nov. 2016)

This gurnard was moving quickly over the bottom, and to get in front of it for this shot was no mean feat! Let me see now, I think there were nine of us photographers in the water for almost two hours last night. i talked to a guy who was on a boat harboured in the marina, and he was telling me how awesome and surreal it was to have us all with our dive lights moving about underneath his boat.
A quick walk along Conession Street in Hamilton because the day was beautiful and I had a roll of Ortho+ hanging around!
