KARACHI Dec25 (APP) A night view of Mazra -E-Quaid.APP PHOTO BY JAHANGIR KHAN

There was a man who had a dream to create a land with diverse beauty and wonderful people to call their own. That land called Pakistan, a dream of unity, diversity and equality made a reality by one great man but that dream did not end with one man. Because of him that dream spread to millions of people and later hundreds of millions people and eventually billions of peoples who live on distant worlds who wanted to explore, achieve unimaginably great, ambitous and positive contributions to humanity stretched across the stars. Mohammed Al Jinnah inspired other great leaders such as Admiral Mehmood Shahjahan and Lieutenant Kamilah, courageous heros of the future to come who would lead Pakistan into a golden age of space exploration with the formation of Pakistani Starfleet. Mohammed Al Jinnah, would be grateful to know so far into the future what started out as a nation to achieve the dreams most thought was impossible became an ambassador to a world to reach out and and make contact with other diverse civilizations on distant worlds with the blending of techinology and cultral tradtion. Pakistan and the Pakistani Starfleet...............like no other............equality is achieved by diversity.

This is a painting by Kenny Irwin :aka: Perfectlymadebirds showing three leaders that stretch across over 1200 years from the formation of Pakistan with Mohammed Al Jinnah and later on, eventually leaders Mehmood Shahjahan and Lieutenant Kamilah of the Pakistani Starfleet. All three legendary figures sit dreaming of the future below the stars and Earth's terraformed moon in the 34th century as many of Pakistan's vast and diverse cities glimmer behind them in complete prosperity and peace along with the greater world of many unique nations and galaxy of untold numbers of diverse civilizations.

The Muslims of India had, since the middle of nineteen century, begun the struggle for a separate homeland on the basis of the two Nation theory. The British rulers realized that the Hindus and Muslims of India remained two separate and distinct nations and socio-cultural entities. The British rulers were left with no option but to eventually accept the demand of the Muslims of India.

On 3rd June1947, Lord Mountbatten, the last Viceroy of India, called the conference of all the leaders of the Sub-continent and communicated to them his Government's Plan for the transfer of power. At that time, a notification was issued in the Gazette of India, published on 26th July 1947 in which the first Constituent Assembly of Pakistan was given shape with 69 Members (later on the membership was increased to 79), including one female Member.

The State of Pakistan was created under the Independence Act of 1947. The Act made the existing Constituent Assemblies, the dominion legislatures. These Assemblies were allowed to exercise all the powers which were formerly exercised by the Central Legislature, in addition to the powers regarding the framing of a new Constitution, prior to which all territories were to be governed in accordance with the Government of India Act, 1935.

The first session of the first Constituent Assembly of Pakistan was held on 10th August 1947 at Sindh Assembly Building Karachi. On 11th August 1947 Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was elected unanimously as the President of the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan and the National Flag was formally approved by the Assembly.

On 12th August 1947, a resolution was approved regarding officially addressing Mr. Muhammad Ali Jinnah as "Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah". On the same day, a special committee called the "Committee on Fundamental Rights of Citizens and Minorities of Pakistan" was appointed to look into and advise the Assembly on matters relating to fundamental rights of the citizens, particularly the minorities, with the aim to legislate on these issues appropriately. On 14th August 1947, the Transfer of Power took place. Lord Mountbatten, Governor General of India, addressed the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan. The Quaid gave a reply to the address in the House, on which the principles of the State of Pakistan were laid. On 15th August 1947, Quaid-i-Azam was sworn in as the first Governor General of Pakistan. Mian Sir Abdur Rashid, Chief Justice of Pakistan, administered oath of office from him. The Quaid remained in this position till his death i.e.11th September 1948.

Mazar-e-Quaid (Urdu: مزار قائد), Jinnah Mausoleum or the National Mausoleum refers to the tomb of the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It is an iconic symbol of Karachi throughout the world. The mausoleum (Urdu/Persian/Arabic: mazār), completed in the 1960s, is situated at the heart of the city. It is the final resting place and mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, founder of Pakistan and is located in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan.

The location is usually calm and tranquil which is significant considering that it is in the heart of one of the largest global megalopolises. The glowing tomb can be seen for miles at night. Khan Liaquat Ali Khan, the first Prime Minister of Pakistan, and Jinnah's sister, Fatima Jinnah, are also buried besides Jinnah. Official and military ceremonies take place here on special occasions, especially on 23 March, 14 August, 11 September and 25 December. This area was a little away from the main city when it was chosen as burial place for Quaid-e-Azam and there lived few number of families on this small hill like place who were displaced and shifted to Quaidabad area of Karachi. By the passage of time the city horizon expanded and this place has become now a central place to the city.

Mr. Yahya Merchant was the architect of this great structure which was completed in the year 1960.

This photograph pays respect to the countless number of Taj Mahal shots with its wondefully expansive fountain lying in the foreground.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not seriously trying to compare the neighboring Taj Mahal to Pakistan's Mazar-e-Quaid! (Especially since this fountain is near water-free!) But since India rejected my visa years back, I don't know when I'll be able to see that wonderful Mughal building in person.

Until then, I guess, this other white marble mausoleum in the subcontinent will have to do :D

Minar-e-Pakistan (Urdu، مینارِ پاکستان) is a tall monumental minaret in Iqbal Park Lahore, built in commemoration of the Lahore Resolution. The minaret reflects a blend of Mughal and modern architecture, and is constructed on the site where on March 23, 1940, seven years before the formation of Pakistan, the Muslim League passed the Pakistan Resolution (Qarardad-e-Pakistan), demanding the creation of Pakistan. This was the first official declaration to establish a separate homeland for the Muslims living in the Indian Subcontinent.

The monument attracts visitors from all over Pakistan, as well as the inhabitants of the Walled City of Lahore. The large public space around the monument is commonly used for political and public meetings, whereas Iqbal Park area is popular among kite-flyers.

I am probably violating some kind of copyright law here, but this is just one of the old magazines that I have in my collection.

What is interesting about this one is that the cover story is a prime example of the negative press that Pakistan has received from the very beginning, and in this case, from even before it's creation.

* Salute *

-Few individuals significantly alter the course of history.

-Fewer still modify the map of the world.

-Hardly anyone can be credited with creating a nation-state.

*Mohammad Ali Jinnah did all three.*

Mazar-e-Quaid (Urdu: مزار قائد) or the National Mausoleum refers to the tomb of the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It is an iconic symbol of Karachi throughout the world. The mausoleum (Urdu/Persian/Arabic: mazār), completed in the 1960s, is situated at the heart of the city.

The Quaid-e-Azam House and Museum, earlier known as the Flagstaff House, is located on the Fatima Jinnah Road in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan, and like almost all other houses on the road, was originally owned by a Parsi business tycoon.

Father of the Nation, Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, purchased the house on the eve of Independence and later Madar-i-Millat Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah lived for many years here.

The building was designed by architect Moses Somake. This probably is Somake's first known building which on one hand is modest and, on the other charming.

The bungalow, which was later designated as the Flagstaff House because of the residence of the General Officer Commanding, is situated at the most exclusive area of the Staff Lines. It is surprising that an architect little known at that time was asked to design this building.

The house was probably built in 1890. Somake had a habit of signing his buildings by inscribing his name in an obscure place that could be found with little effort. In the case of the Flagstaff House, it is etched on an inner face of the porch. Somake's work on the Flagstaff House was confined to the main double storey bungalow, while the annex was added to the premises at a later date. Somake lavished his attention on the façade facing the Bonus Road, which was the main thoroughfare at the time, probably due to a tight budget.

The frontage has a symmetrical arrangement, with two wings flanking the central porch that carries the projecting part of the verandah. Simple arcading, carved pilasters and sloping roofs using red clay tiles are the architectural ingredients of this attractive bungalow. An unusual element is the introduction of semi-circular balconies, which also appear in the City Courts Building built at a later date. Finely chiselled and carved features embellish the front façade, while the rest of the building is in a hammer-dressed masonry.

Quaid-i-Azam visited the Flagstaff House in 1943, liked it and showed interest in acquiring it. Although owned by a Parsi business magnate Sohrab Kavasji, it had been requisitioned as the residence of General Hind, GOC.

The deed of purchase in the name of "Mr Mohammed Ali Jinnah, Barrister-at-Law, Bombay" was registered in March 1944. After the partition, the bungalow was furnished with the belongings and furnishings of the Quaid that had been brought from his Delhi and Bombay residences, and was kept in readiness, to be occupied by him, possibly after his retirement.

After the death of the Father of the Nation in 1948, Fatima Jinnah lived in the house from 1948 to 1964. Due to prime location several commercial organisations were interested in acquiring the property not for conservation but for demolition and constructing high buildings. Besides a number of public sector companies also tried to acquire the premises to erect a new building thereon.

The bungalow lay neglected till 1985 when, as a result of the pleas by the Heritage Foundation, it was acquired by the Government of Pakistan; restored and declared a national monument the Quaid-i-Azam House Museum. It now houses furniture, relics, and other items of the Father of the Nation.
