This album contains a selection of Spanish secular music from the baroque period. The ensemble is small and intimate with Montserrat Figueras, soprano, together with a fine quartet of musicians: Ton Koopman on harpsichord, Hopkinson Smith on guitar and theorbo, Christophe Coin, on viol, and, of course, Jordi Savall on viol as well.. The pieces are almost all scored differently, ranging from solo harpsichord pieces (the Toccata and Gallarda by Cabanilles), to pieces for viol and guitar (Martín y Coll's Diferencias sobre las Folias, a set of variations on the famous La Folia theme), to songs with soprano and instruments
What.?
Yes. During the reign of the 49ers, under quarterback, Joe Montana, Frank hosted many SuperBowl parties.
And none of us wanted to watch the Half Time show. So I did it.
It also had a big-sounding title.: “The Birth of Hawaii”.
Picture this.: a window screen, held up flat, and a tube of toothpaste.:
if you hold up the screen, it’s the Pacific Ocean.
The toothpaste can be the wind-blown Islands of Hawaii... the ones that break the surface.
You squeeze the islands up through the screen and there you are. You can even shape them. ( You can make a long one for Molokai. )
This next part is GEOLOGY-
That is how the Islands happened- squeezed up through a hot spot in the Pacific Plate, one at a time, as the plate moved along to the northwest. The hot spot, of course, stayed put under all this.
Geez. But ain’t it true.
And the audience of ten to twenty saw this happen before their eyes, in 3D and quadraphonic sound.
Yes, it was made with a window screen and a tube of toothpaste, but it was much better that the ten minute Show on the TV.
And my Show was shorter, leaving time to pee before the third quarter started.
Thanks to glorious Google Earth.
( it says, ‘All Rights Reserved’, at the bottom, here. I don’t know how to fix that. All i did was draw a blue line on a Google map. )
___
Go to this YouTube video at counter 4:25.:
After a minute or so, you will see a pattern, much like the one drawn onto the map on this page, as the plate moves over the hot spot.
___
And, of course, this all comes from Google Earth.
I’m thin of this and one other service that is an amazing thing to come to us in recent times.
Google Earth is an elite service that would usually not be available to the general public. And it is abialable for free as well…. unheard of.
The other one that comes to mind is the free access to NASA photographs.
I know that you can say, well, of course the photos are free because any such thing from the government come without copyright. But, for me, it is not something to take for granted.
Look at this, which comes to us for free….

What the hell are those crazy lines in the center of the photo.?

Note the text with wonderful detail. It even points out The Southern Cross, which we don’t get to see from this side of the Earth.

Sansui had half a dozen QRX quad offerings in the early seventies. The impressive QRX-5500 was the mid-range receiver. All decoder systems are on board. Fine condition in a real wood casing.
High fidelity performance power with 30 watts per channel x4 at 8 ohms
I discovered this quadraphonic all-in-one stereo in a thrift store recently. This particular model was only sold in European military PX's back in the early 70's which makes them a pretty rare find in the United States. This four-channel Panasonic features a cassette deck, turntable, 8 Track, and AM/FM receiver. It's quite heavy and seems like a better quality stereo compared to the low-end all-in-ones from SounDesign, Lloyds, GE and other brands from that era that I've seen. I used the 4 channel inputs on the back to tie in my Sansui QD-5500 quadraphonic reel-to-reel, and the sound is actually quite good. I took the unit apart and repaired the 8 track which had a frozen head that needed cleaned, lubricated and de-magnetized. Everything now works fine on this with the exception of the turntable which still needs a new needle.

A gramophone record, commonly known as a phonograph record (in American English), vinyl record (in reference to vinyl, the material most commonly used after about 1950), or colloquially, a record, is an analog sound storage medium consisting of a flat disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove.
The groove usually starts near the periphery and ends near the center of the disc. Phonograph records are generally described by their diameter in inches (12-inch, 10-inch, 7-inch, etc.), the rotational speed at which they are played ("331⁄3 rpm", "78", "45", etc.), their time capacity ("long playing"), their reproductive accuracy, or "fidelity", or the number of channels of audio provided ("mono", "stereo", "quadraphonic", etc.).
Phonograph records were the primary medium used for music reproduction for most of the 20th century, replacing the phonograph cylinder, with which it had co-existed, by the 1920s. By the late 1980s, digital media had gained a larger market share, and the vinyl record left the mainstream in 1991.
However, they continue to be manufactured and sold in the 21st century. The vinyl record regained popularity by 2008, with nearly 2.9 million units shipped that year, the most in any year since 1998 and the format has continued to slowly regain popularity. They are especially used by DJs and audiophiles for many types of music. As of 2012, vinyl records continue to be used for distribution.

Transitions of the Spacial Station
Director of Recombinant Media Labs (RML) Naut Humon (USA) speaks on the formation, deployment and current activities of California’s Recombinant Labs and their West Coast affiliates. RML is an experimental mobile facility for the experiential engineering of surround cinema and immersive arts. Recombinant is a term derived from the field of genetics. Springing from this elastic media grid is a process which illustrates how an electronically strained ‘offspring’ comes to possess cultural characteristics not always present in either ‘parent’.
As their operation has networked nomadically to different locales internationally, the focus on spatial media synthesis in fixed and locative dispositions has remained paramount. Stories of Sound Traffic Control towers in strange airports piloted by wild women with sonic space knives like Maryanne Amacher or earlier on projects with Diamanda Galas and her quadraphonic mic clusters are all inspirational to RML’s directives.
The multi-channel thinking that transformed the analogue expeditions into the technological correlated RML CineChamber of the 2000s is also emphasized, where the embodiment of the digital image and subsequent panorama was grafted onto the exo-skeleton of RML’s auralized identity in the last 20 years. Now the stage is being framed for the next tens spatial springboard with fresh residencies and alliances with universities, foundations and festivals as RML delves further into the science of aural-optical phenomena.
Naut Humon (US) is the founder of Recombinant Media Labs and was head of A&R for Asphodel Records. During the 1970s he resented a series of ‘destabilized’ media events designed to repurpose the visitor’s frame of reference. Later activities emphasized a strong musical foundation with tactile instrumentation and audio/video technologies that focus the perceptions of the viewer on the physicalization of form.

Here is the joystick balance control on an early 1970's JVC 4ME-4800 4 channel 8 track player. According to JVC brochures, it puts out 48 watts, and has inputs for another discrete 4 channel source as well as 2 channel phono. It can play 2 and 4 channel tapes and includes JVC's "simulated four channel system", which converts a 2 channel input to 4 channel. It does not support matrix encoding such as CD-4 or SQ.
