Semaphore tower, Joychandi Pahar, Purulia district, West Bengal, India

Establishment of the tower :

The British East India Company established it at some point between 1818 and 1830 AD.

Use of Semaphore tower:

Now let's talk about what this Semaphore Tower is and how it works. In fact, the only hope to exchange any information before the invention of the telegram was a letter. But it would take a long time to arrive if you wrote a letter on a very important subject and in many cases the reply would come after the need was met. To address this problem, Semaphore Signaling Technology was first invented in France, probably in 1792, and within a few days it entered India by the hands of the British East India Company.

Now we will know how it works. Suppose you have to send important government information from Kolkata to Benaras. Now in every 8-10 miles from Kolkata to Benaras have one tower is built (these are the Semaphore Towers). For the convenience of understanding, the tower in Calcutta is A and the tower in Benares is Z, in the middle Howrah, Arambagh, Bishnupur, Joychandi, B, C, D, E ... There are. Now if you have to send a message, a special signal is given from the tower A . B The person sitting in the tower understands (decodes) that signal through the telescope and sends it to C. C saw the signal / message of B in the telescope and sent the note down to D. Thus in a short time the information from A to Z went away.

This tower on Joychandi hill is an intermediate semaphore tower for transmitting information from Calcutta Fort Willam to Chunar Fort. After the invention of the Telegram in 1854, its use ceased.

When angle shares her light, you can call it an angelic light. I call it Angel’s share. I don’t know how did I meet her but I was greedily seeking her share.

Ahhhh! How rich it can be!

Trust me, when she lights up the entire sky, I indeed witnessed her convention as I was grabbing her share….!!
