Purchased at a local antique shop for $35. The clerk said, "Hmm, it's kinda old and dirty, I can give you a discount. We've got some better-looking Polaroids, too!" Yeah, no chance. I clutched the Rollei tightly like a gun smuggler until I got to the checkout counter.
A birthday was recently celebrated, and a Canon EOS 60D and carrying case acquired to mark the occasion (from Glazer's: buy local!)
Here the birthday boy is training the new camera to photograph stones yesterday, on the first day of spring-like weather. A few stones were left unphotographed, so this is a likely site for future image-making outings.
The camera and bag are widely available. The photographer, being a treasured family heirloom, is priceless and NFS.

Trakai Island Castle (Lithuanian: Trakų salos pilis) is an island castle located in Trakai, Lithuania on an island in Lake Galvė. The castle is sometimes referred to as "Little Marienburg". The construction of the stone castle was begun in the 14th century by Kęstutis, and around 1409 major works were completed by his son Vytautas the Great, who died in this castle in 1430. Trakai was one of the main centres of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the castle held great strategic importance.
Trakai Island Castle was built in several phases. During the first phase, in the second half of the 14th century, the castle was constructed on the largest of three lake islands by the order of Grand Duke Kęstutis. The construction of Trakai Island Castle was related to the expansion and strengthening of the Trakai Peninsula Castle. Kęstutis moved his main residence and his treasury to the Island Castle. The castle suffered major damage during an attack by the Teutonic Knights in 1377. After the assassination of Kęstutis, a power struggle between Jogaila and Vytautas the Great for the title of Grand Duke of Lithuania began. The castle was besieged by both sides. Soon after the reconciliation between Jogaila and Vytautas, the second phase of construction started and continued until 1409. This phase is regarded as the major development in the history of the castle. Apparently, during the truce with the Teutonic Order, the construction works were supervised by the Order's stonemason Radike, four years before the Battle of Grunwald.
During the second phase, two wings were added, and on the southern side a 6 story (35 m. high) donjon - see note - was built. The donjon had movable gates which separated the palace from the forecastle. The donjon was used for several functions; besides serving as another defensive structure, it had a chapel and living quarters. It was linked to the multistory Ducal Palace, which had an inner yard. The inner yard had wooden galleries, which ran around the inner wall; these galleries were used to access various support facilities without going inside the palace itself. The entire southern wing of the southern palace was used for the Ducal Hall. This hall was around 10 x 21 metres in size, and only the Upper Palace in the Vilnius Castle Complex managed to surpass it. The Ducal Hall has preserved some of its original décor. The principal construction material was so-called red Gothic bricks. Stone blocks were used only in the foundations and the upper parts of buildings, towers and walls. The castle was decorated in a variety of ways, including glazed roof tiling, burned bricks, and stained glass windows. Its overall style after the second construction phase could be described as Gothic with some Romanesque features.
The expansion of the forecastle in the early 15th century marked the third phase of Trakai's development. The walls of the forecastle were strengthened to a thickness of 2.5 metres and raised with additional firing galleries. Three major defensive towers - clearly visible here, hehe - were constructed on the corners. The southwestern tower was also used as a prison. The top story of the towers was designed for soldiers and housed a large number of cannons. A main gatehouse - behind the boats - was also constructed which, along with the Ducal Palace donjon, had movable gates. The gatehouse was reinforced with additional sections for firing galleries. Near the inner walls several buildings were constructed, including stables, kitchens, and other support structures. When the castle was undergoing this expansion in the 15th century, the water level of Lake Galvė was several metres higher than it is today. The castle builders took advantage of this by separating the Ducal Palace and the forecastle with a moat, just wide enough for small boats to sail through. They were connected by gates that could be raised in case of an enemy attack.
Encouragement to purchase*
Nothing over $99.00 item in my shop now.
Most pieces are $30.00.
All one of a kind and handmade work.
It was in the 1920s, when nobody had time to reflect, that I saw a still-life painting with a flower that was perfectly exquisite, but so small you really could not appreciate it.

Last year I purchased several packs of seeds for ten cents per pack. Planted them in containers not knowing what to expect. These emerged and bloomed.
This picture was a purchase from a nautical shop in a bunch of old nautical pictures for sale. Nothing on the back, but the date, 9-17-1937.
She is the second newbuild for the Virginia Ferry Corp (VFC) for the crossing of the lower Chesapeake Bay between Cape Charles and Little Creek. Built in 1936 at Sun Shipbuiding & Drydock Co. Chester, PA. Designed by Naval Architect George Sharp and well known Designer Raymond Loewy who gave her the modernistic look on the superstructure and upper hull. Her dimensions were the same as VFC's first newbuild the SS DEL-MAR-VA, LOA 260'X59'. Powered by two Skinner Uniflow quadrupole expansion steam engines, 1400 HP each. In 1946 the VFC removed most of Raymond Loewy's design. On the boat deck, the entire superstructure was removed and a new one built with crew spaces and a raised wheelhouse with bridge wings. In 1954, at Baltimore Shipbuilding, she was cut in two and a 90' midsection added bringing her LOA to 350'. She was the first of three VFC vessels to be lengthened. All three gained a knot in top speed. With the opening of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, ferry operations stopped. Five of the seven vessels were sold to the Delaware River & Bay Authority (DRBA) for a new crossing between Lewes, DE and N. Cape May, NJ. Renamed the SS NEW JERSEY she sailed with them until 1973 when she was sold to a failed ferry venture between Greenport, NY and New London, CT. Renamed the SS GREENPORT, she made some excursion voyages from Providence, RI. Tied up in governmental red tape, the new ferry venture was not approved. Later the GREENPORT was drydocked in Middleton, RI for possible dieselizing where she was dropped during the drydocking process. Damage sustained to her bottom was her final blow, now becoming shipyard property, she was allowed to sink partially and was used for a warehouse by the shipyard. Palm Beach County , FL was looking for a ship of her dimension for an artificial reef off shore. In May 1993 she was sunk as the MV PRINCESS ANNE, this is in error as she was still a steam powered vessel and not a motor vessel.
In this picture she existing Little Creek and entering the Chesapeake Bay. Origin of picture and Photographer unknown.

A few of my favorite things, and all before sunrise: beach, stars, "Cuki", night photography and the International Space Station.
I got to wave "good morning" to the International Space Station and its crew of 6 this morning (including Scott Tingle and Joe Acaba), seen here flying over the Space Coast of Florida in a single, 191-second exposure.

Tessa is an awesome young lady who also happens to be gorgeous. Tessa and I are working on scheduling a full photo shoot, so bookmark this photo. I'll update with a link.
Look for Tessa as one of the featured coeds in the November, 2011 issue of Playboy magazine's "Girls of the SEC". I've seen the photo -- and believe me, Tessa is beautiful, clothes on... or off. More than that, Tessa Fowler is a sweet, humble, polite, lovable young lady. All of our interactions have been a joy to me.
I'm guessing Tessa will end up with a full centerfold at some point in the near future, too.
UPDATE: Tessa made Cyber Girl of the Week and was also in a special edition of Playboy's College Girls for January or February, 2012.
I paid a winter visit to this cemetery today. In my quest to photograph all of Attleboro's cemeteries, I'd been putting off this one, as it seemed rather mundane from the road. However, as aficionados know, just about every cemetery rewards a visit, and this was no exception. The snow and clouds combined to form some nice winter vistas as well..

Sold as doll. You could purchase just Sindy (the blonde) or both of them together like this. They have interesting outfits with Velcro on their cuffs and under their shoes, so they will stick to the Twister mat. (See instructions on the next photo.)
Their bodies are the most flexible since the early ballerinas in Sindy's history. Yay! There's only one and a half problem...
They don't have feet. You heard me! The shoes are their feet.
Why oh why!?!
The other 'half' problem is their necks, a very small issue compared to shoefeet, but they are very limited in movement. They can look to the side but hardly up and down at all.
I might try a little Frankenstein foot switcheroo some day.

Recently purchased from Heritage Coaches (theSussexBus.com) is this rather smart looking Volvo. It is one of three examples of the vehicle type that SussexBus owned, but it is the only one I currently understand that the Rotala PLC have purchased from them.
Diamond's PO58 KPU (30494) is seen parked outside Redditch's Church Road (engineering) depot. It had arrived at Redditch the previous day. All it needs now before it can enter service is a side destination display, which will make it DDA Compliant. This is now the second example of this vehicle type within the Rotala fleet, the other being sister vehicle PO58KPY (30408), which is currently in use at Tividale depot. PO58KPU (305) was new in October 2008 as one of six of the vehicle type ever made. The others being KPV (306), KPX (307), KPY (308), KPZ (309) and KRD (310). All six were new to Kent County Council, Aylesford (Kent Top Travel), where they were used on Canterbury Park & Ride services. When they were sold, PO58KPU, PO58KPV, PO58KPX and PO58KRD were all sold to The Sussex Bus, where they gained their standard red livery. PO58KPY was sold to the Rotala PLC, for their Diamond operation, while PO58KPZ was sold for scrap. I currently don't know what will happen to the three other former Sussex ones, and I hope that KPY will move to Redditch to operate alongside KPU because it wouldn't make sense to have two odd vehicle examples not operating out of the same depot. They are Volvo B7RLE/East Lancs (Optare) Esteem's.
