Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword™

Format:Nintendo eShop

Launch Date:02/02/12

ESRB:T (Teen): Violence

Game Type:Action, Fighting

Players:1

Publisher:Nintendo

MSRP:$6.99

Game Information

Leave button mashing behind. Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword is about precision swordplay, battlefield finesse, and martial-arts style.

As the heroic title character, you'll travel a world rife with cherry-blossom beauty—and deadly danger—to rescue the legendary Princess Cherry Blossom. Her kidnapper has set dozens of blade-wielding henchmen in your path, and you'll have to exercise your best battle senses to defeat them and save her. Learn to predict your foes' moves, deftly dodge their attacks, and create opportunities for devastating counterattacks.

Start with the Sakura Sword, a little health, and some basic training from your water-spirit guide. Make your way from battleground to battleground fighting wave after wave of increasingly cunning enemies. Fight through huge castles to duel epic bosses. And don't forget to stop at small villages along the way to get help, gear, encouragement (and distraction) from the quirky townsfolk.

Prove that you truly are the Sakura Samurai!

Rebecca is wearing Amy's Tetris costume over her Guitar Hero costume, and RC is from Punchout. If you ask me, he's not pixelated enough. Amy's in the background in her contingency costume.

Release: October 18th 1987 (U.S.A.)

Platform: Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)

Developer: Nintendo Research & Development 3

Publisher: Nintendo

Website: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punch-Out!!

This wasn't the first game in the Punch-Out!! series. NES released Punch-Out!! in the arcades in February 1984 (U.S.A.) and Super Punch-Out!! in 1985. Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! was released for the NES on Oct 18th 1987. In Japan the game was named Punch-Out!! without Tyson on the cover. The final opponent in that game was Super Macho Man, the same last opponent in the original Punch-Out!! arcade game. Nintendo later released the Tyson version in Japan.

When Tyson's 3-year $50,000 (rumored) contract with Nintendo ended, the company re-released Punch-Out!! in August 1990 (limited quantities) as a character named Mr. Dream was the final opponent instead of Tyson.

Super Punch-Out!! was released in 1994 (again in 1996) for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Super Macho Man was the final opponent.

There's been other Punch-Out!! games released on different platforms since.
