Another pulsating day of high insensity, non stop action, and fantastic entertainment. It makes me wonder why i bother sometimes with football when RL offers so much more. Excellent atmosphere, no pathetic jobsworth club officials.
Leigh scored first with an excellent try by the ever impressive Liam Kay (5) but Fev hit back strongly and had the better of things and took a HT 6-4 lead. Centurions start signing Mr Moimoi got pole-axed in the first half but that proved a huge mistake by Fev, because he came back on later even more fired up !. But then in the second half Leigh's power, strength and intensity proved too much. Leigh's Tom Armstrong also bagged a brace and was outstanding like most of the squad was.
Fev huffed and puffed but couldnt break down a very solid Centurions team who are a Super League outfit in everything but name. Make no mistake they are that impressive.
Featherstone as a town for some is a somewhat depressing place and has seen better days. But it hosts two decent rugby league teams and has loyal supporters who remember dearly their three challenge cup wins at Wembley. I remember watching them in the '73 final beating Bradford Northern 33-14. The whole of Fev seemed to have migrated South that day.
But they say every downside has an upside. Featherstone does have an upside .... it has a Lidl !!
This is the Crab Nebula, M1. This represents an unguided 10-minute image. This about the limit possible, unguided, for my little 81mm telescope. The nebula was not visible with the eyepiece I had in the flip-mirror apparatus I use in my setup. I tried to use Astro Tortilla to plate-solve to pinpoint the location, but I couldn't get the program to solve for the data I had given it. Luckily, the mount was pretty much spot-on with this go-to. On a 10-second frame-and-focus I could see a faint smudge in the center of the field. I did a 2-minute exposure and, sure enough, there it was. Not much detail, but at least I can say I've seen the Crab Nebula with my own equipment.
That you can see this nebula is pretty amazing. This nebula is the remnant of a star that went supernova in 1054 AD. The Chinese recorded it, so did the Native Americans in the desert Southwest. A neutron star, approximately 20 km in diameter, is powering the nebula's emission via synchrotron radiation (free electrons accelerated by the neutron star's incredibly strong magnetic field). This neutron star has a rotational period of about 30 times per second. Here is a recording (in the radio spectrum) documenting the rotation rate of this neutron star:
www.parkes.atnf.csiro.au/people/sar049/eternal_life/super...
The Crab Pulsar, PSR B0531+21 (PSR=Pulsating Source of Radio) is composed almost entirely of neutrons with a density slightly higher than that found in an atomic nucleus. Basically, it's a huge, incredibly dense (the neutrons are nearly touching one another) nucleus composed of 10^57 neutrons held together by gravity instead of the strong nuclear force. To get an idea of this stellar remnant’s density, imagine all the people on this planet stuffed into a cube 1.5 centimeters on a side. Or another example, a modern-day aircraft carrier shrunk down to the size of the little ball in the end of a ball-point pen.
The force of gravity on this stellar remnant is incredible. Earth's gravitational acceleration is 9.8 meters per second squared. A mass dropped from 1 meter on Earth’s surface reaches a velocity, upon reaching the ground, of about 5 miles/hour. That same mass, dropped from a height of 1 meter on the surface of the Crab Nebula’s neutron star, would reach a velocity, upon hitting the surface, of about 2.1 million miles/hour. This neutron star’s gravitational acceleration is 1.86x10^12 meters/sec^2 or about 190 billion times Earth’s gravitational acceleration. And you thought you weighed a lot on Earth.

Heartbeat by Charles Pétillon
Installation August-September 2015
Heartbeat stretches 54 metres in length and 12 metres in width, and incorporates gentle pulsating white light to symbolise the beating of a heart and reflect the history, energy and dynamism of the district.
Charles Pétillon said: “The balloon invasions I create are metaphors. Their goal is to change the way in which we see the things we live alongside each day without really noticing them. With Heartbeat I wanted to represent the Market Building as the beating heart of this area – connecting its past with the present day to allow visitors to re-examine its role at the heart of London’s life.
“Each balloon has its own dimensions and yet is part of a giant but fragile composition that creates a floating cloud above the energy of the market below. This fragility is represented by contrasting materials and also the whiteness of the balloons that move and pulse appearing as alive and vibrant as the area itself.”

Pulsating high above the heart of the city, Tsunami 1.26 is a gigantic aerial net installation by acclaimed American artist Janet Echelman. This spectacular vision is one of the works from the Powerhouse Museum’s Love Lace exhibition, and combines ancient craft practice with cutting-edge technology to create an oasis of sculpture delicate enough to be choreographed by the wind. Netted with a high tensile rope, 15 times stronger than steel in weight, and lit by changing coloured lights, Tsunami is inspired by the events that unfolded following the 2010 Chile earthquake. Using a 3D model of the 2010 tsunami, and software to create an outline of the model’s higher amplitude area, Echelman created her sculptural form, with machine-knotted mesh revealing the intricacy of traditional netting.

On Monday, October 18, students were invited to stop by McKean Hall where tables had been set up to showcase samples of international desserts and treats. This event, called “Desserts Around the World,” was sponsored by the different cultural organizations overseen by Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) in collaboration with the Office of Residential Life. Students were given the opportunity to learn about the groups represented through hands-on activities and trivia available at each of the tables, as well as by meeting and talking with the students.
Traditional Fry Bread, a symbol of Navajo culture, was served by the American Indian Student Association (AISO). Michael Cardwell (Class of 2013), who was representing the Black Student Union (BSU), baked a vibrant red velvet cake. The pulsating rhythm of Salsa music enticed those passing by the Latin American Student Association (LASA) table to stop by to sample some of their flan, an oven-baked caramel custard dessert that is a very popular in South America, Mexico and the United States.
Among the other cultural organizations represented were Spectrum, MECCA, Chinese Student Association, Caribbean Student Association (CSA), Interfaith Living Learning Community (LLC) and the Multiethnic Student Society (M.E.S.S).

NUIT BLANCHE, Toronto, Dutch artist Daan Roosegaarde and Interactive Landscape Dune
NUIT BLANCHE, Toronto © Linda Dawn Hammond / IndyFoto.com 2010. October 2, 2010.
A fibre-optic landscape of pulsating ‘reeds’ which respond to the movement and touch of the public. One of the draws was the location itself, the Lower Bay Station in downtown Toronto, which has achieved almost mythical stature as an unseen ‘ghost subway station’, in that it is no longer in use, except as a location for the odd film shoot. I admit that this was my principal reason in making this my number 2 choice- that, and the knowledge that the anticipated line-up meant I should attempt this at the peak of my energy level. Fortunately, press sometimes have their privileges and I was able to enter in no time to photograph the artist with his piece, as well as get a quick tour of the disused tunnel and listen to a TTC man tell “true” ghost stories to a rapt audience. As I left for my next location, I passed by the long line-up of people which snaked its way around the Bay Station, all shivering in the early morning autumn chill as they waited hours to get in, and truly admired the dedication of Nuit Blanche’s art enthusiasts.
Interactive landscape Dune, 2007-2010
Daan Roosegaarde - Rotterdam, Netherlands
New Media
Dune is an interactive landscape which reacts to the behaviour of people. This hybrid of nature and technology exists out of large amounts of fibres which are brightened according to the sounds and motion of passing visitors.
Dune investigates nature in a futuristic relation with urban space by means of looking, walking and interacting. Walking through Dune has been described in the media as being an "Alice in Technoland."
After traveling from Victoria & Albert Museum in London to Scotiabank Nuit Blanche 2010 a special version of Dune will transform the Lower Bay Station in downtown Toronto into an interactive landscape of light.
Daan Roosegaarde is Creative Director of Studio Roosegaarde, an artistic laboratory for interactive projects which won the Dutch Design Award 2009. Daan Roosegaarde's work explores the dynamic relation between architecture, people and e-culture. His sculptures create a situation of 'tactile high-tech' where visitor and (public) space become one. Roosegaarde's interactive projects have been internationally exhibited at V2_, The National Art Center Tokyo, the Venice Biennale 2009, and Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
And then the lights started pulsating and the music filled the room. Along with the mannequins dressed up and "playing" on their right instruments the atmosphere instantly turned electric. And wow, the quality of that sound!

Young Munster number eight Sean Rennison takes the fight to Lansdowne in this pulsating Ulster Bank AIL game which thoroughly entertained all who were in attendance at Tom Clifford Park.Young Munster scrum half,Brian Haugh, opened the scoring landing a difficult penalty in the opening minutes.Little did anyone know that it would seperate the teams at four o'clock ! Lansdowne stormed into the lead from there with three unanswered tries all of which were converted, 3 - 21 at the break. In the second half in true "game of two halves" style Young Munster decided to wake up and play. They produced a wonderful exhibition of never give up rugby and scored three unanswered tries of their own which Brian Haugh converted to leave Lansdowne shell shocked and losers,24 - 21. If only every game was as exciting as this ! Game of Saturday 1st March 2014.

My niece and nephew (MacKenzie (aka "Mackie" age 11 and Jason age 8) celebrate their birthdays with one party since their birthdays are just a few weeks apart.... so, it's always fun to come up with a theme for the cake that suits them both!
This year they had a party at the local bowling alley, and wanted to somehow incorporate that.... They also both LOVE skulls (as it seems all kids do these days!) They wanted something cool and "rocker"... maybe goth (not "little kid looking") Plus, colors that work for both a tween girl and and almost tween boy. =)
uhhhh, ok ~ not an impossible thing to accomplish, right!?! lol!
SO... here is "Skull Bowl"! I made the cake purple with bronze and silver metallic accents and used red at the secondary color. Fondant cutout skulls with each childs name/age go around the cake (note the skull and crossbones are not bones.... bowling pins!) Mackie's skull has a butterfly motif and Jason's has a dragon. =) The topper is a plastic Halloween skull that I sugar coated with red sparkle sugar and adorned with a plume of black feathers. The small skulls around the cake are also plastic. (would have like to make the entirely edible, but it was a BUSY weekend and Auntie didn't have enough time!)

Signal 176.3 on the approach to Wingello, showing a yellow aspect. It can show steady yellow "caution" indication as well as pulsating yellow "medium" (preliminary caution/warning) indication. There are a couple of sidings for track vehicle and emergency use plus an emergency crossover at Wingello. Normally 176.3 operates as a permissive, automatic signal (block signal), but when the electric release is taken at Wingello to unlock points there, 176.3 becomes an absolute home signal. To indicate when it is working as an automatic signal, it displays an "A" light below the main head. When the release at Wingello is taken and it becomes in effect a home signal protecting points, the A light is extinguished. It then cannot be passed at stop without authority.

The blue-ringed octopuses (genus Hapalochlaena) are three (or perhaps four) octopus species that live in tide pools and coral reefs in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, from Japan to Australia (mainly around southern New South Wales and South Australia, and northern Western Australia). They are recognized as some of the world's most venomous marine animals. Despite their small size and relatively docile nature, they can prove a danger to humans. They can be recognized by their characteristic blue and black rings and yellowish skin. When the octopus is agitated, the brown patches darken dramatically, and iridescent blue rings or clumps of rings appear and pulsate within the maculae. Typically 50-60 blue rings cover the dorsal and lateral surfaces of the mantle. They hunt small crabs, hermit crabs, and shrimp, and may bite attackers, including humans, if provoked.

TECART, Rotterdam 2016
The project is the result of a combined research on the side effects of human perception and how the eyes perceive visual complexity in combination with external flicker images and loud pulsating sounds. The stroboscopic light is used at specific frequencies and colors to induce hallucinatory imagery, these images melt together with the stroboscopic patterns generated in the video projection. While the installation relentlessly over-stimulate the audiovisual senses, the works open up and envelops the audience in a meditative and hypnotic zone where the spectator can dream away in the abstract worlds that pass.
This year’s TEC ART is the 3rd edition of a mini festival during Art Rotterdam, offering five days and nights of exhibition, live events, electronic music and audio-art at WORM, institute for avantgardistic recreation.
After 2 successful editions in Fenix warehouse in Katendrecht, TEC ART moves to THE cultural hot spot in Rotterdam, Witte de Withstraat. There the new exhibition spaces of WORM will be invaded by 360 degree video-projections, hypnotizing audiovisual installation, virtual realities and Zombie Apocalypse gamehacks. Interactive pop-up installations will be shown at the newly opened Kruisplein in front of Central Station, as well as Witte de Withbrug, the bridge near museum Boijmans. Eyecatcher is a larger than life boombox where visitors can release a wave of high volume gabber, terror and techno beats as a tribute to it’s birthplace, the industrial harbor of Rotterdam.

The clock is driven by a rare olden battery driven moving coil (often mistook as a simpler designed moving magnet type) movement. Solid brass contruction..very ornate looking.
working principles :
Moving magnet design: current is passed thru' a fixed position coil at a fixed frequency to produce the a pulsating magnetic field (transistor control). A pair of permanent magnets which are mounted on the balance wheel mechanism carrying a natural magnetic field would rotate back and forth the coil interacting with the coil's oscilating magnetic field. This action would set the wheel in constant motion, keep the circuit going and in turn keep the clock ticking.
Moving coil design : current is passed into a pair of coils mounted on the balance wheel (transistor control). The oscillating magnetic field produced by the coils interact with the magnetic field created by a pair of permanent magnets mounted at a fixed position keep the balance wheel in motion thus keeping time.
summary : in moving magnet design, the permanent magnets are mounted on the moving wheel
in moving coil design, the permanent magnet is fixed while the coils mounted on the wheel move.
Only Time will tell and every clock tells a story....
The problem with clock is, once you got two they start to multiply..
It all started when I acquired my first clock a 1960's jap 7-day wall clock from a colleague of mine by the name of Wong Mun Lai, a clock collector
www.flickr.com/photos/lonesomecrow/3975601137/in/set-7215...
It was a non-working clock which I wanted to hang up for display. After a while, I felt something amiss. A clock is not a clock if it does'nt work! So I took it apart and do some fixing, to my surprise I managed to get it ticking again ! I was totally fascinated From there I got my second, third and so on....
My favourite has to be the 400 day clock
Amazing time piece and fun to repair Next in line is those of the electromechanical design type
I love the working principles
At the time of writing, my collection is still growing....but has grind to a halt as my interest is now focus on nature photography

Budapest is the capital city of Hungary. With green filled parks full of charming pleasures, museums that will inspire, and a pulsating nightlife that is on par with its European counterparts, Budapest is one of Europe's most delightful and enjoyable cities. Thanks to the perfect location, inhabitants' hospitality and memorable monuments is it mentioned as "Little Paris of Central Europe" and "Pearl of Danube".
Although Budapest is administratively divided into 23 numbered districts which are always written in Roman numerals, it can most simply be divided into the two cities of which it is comprised (Buda and Pest) and one historic district:
* Buda - The hilly West side of the Danube (Districts I-III, XI-XII, XXII).
* Castle Hill - District I of Buda, the oldest part of the city containing the eponymous Castle and many of Budapest's best-known attractions (Fishermen’s Bastion, Labyrinth and Mathias Church)
* Pest - The flat East side of the Danube, covering the modern commercial core of the city(Districts IV-IX).
