NGC 3766 (also known as Caldwell 97) is an open star cluster in the southern constellation Centaurus. It is located in the vast star-forming region known as the Carina molecular cloud, and was discovered by Nicolas Louis de Lacaille during his astrometric survey in 1751–1752. At a distance of about 1745 pc, the cluster subtends a diameter of about 12 minutes of arc.
There are 137 listed stars, but many are likely non-members, with only 36 having accurate photometric data. Total apparent magnitude of 5.3 and integrated spectral type of B1.7. NGC 3766 is relatively young that is estimated as log (7.160) or 14.4 million years, and approaching us at 14.8 km/s. This cluster contains eleven Be stars, two red supergiants and four Ap stars.
36 examples of an unusual type of variable star were discovered in the cluster. These fast-rotating pulsating B-type stars vary by only a few hundredths of a magnitude with periods less than half a day. They are main sequence stars, hotter than δ Scuti variables and cooler than slowly pulsating B stars.

Auroral streamers or rays rather than curtains as part of the pulsating phase of the great equinox display of Northern Lights on March 23, 2023. The rays have a strong vertical structure from precipitating electrons but were pulsing off and on rather than rippling. While the predominent colour is green, there is a lot of red and magenta mixed in. The rays appear to be converging up toward the magnetic zenith. This is looking south. Orion is at right.

"In the heart of Neo-Tokyo’s sprawling urban jungle, nestled high above the neon-lit streets, Thea’s apartment stood as a sanctuary of creativity and desire. It was a modest space, filled with the hum of technology and the pulse of the city beyond the round window that framed its skyline.
Thea, known to the world as a masterful weaver of fantasies through Braindance recordings, prepared for her latest creation. Her apartment was a reflection of her dual existence—a small, intimate room dominated by an illuminated platform where she would dance her tales into existence.
The platform, bathed in soft, shifting hues of light, awaited her graceful movements. The room itself was a testament to her craft—a netrunner chair nestled beside a server rack, where the intricate dance of data mirrored the dance of her body. Screens flickered with lines of code and digital landscapes, ready to be woven into the fabric of her art.
As the music began to swell, Thea emerged, a vision of elegance and allure against the backdrop of the city’s ever-changing skyline. Her movements were fluid, a seamless blend of strength and grace as she navigated the pole with practiced ease. The round window behind her framed the chaotic beauty of Neo-Tokyo—a testament to the world outside, where reality and fantasy intertwined.
The holographic displays around her sprung to life, projecting scenes that spanned galaxies and dimensions. From ancient temples bathed in moonlight to futuristic metropolises pulsating with life, each scene was a canvas upon which Thea painted stories of longing and fulfillment.
As the night unfolded and the city below buzzed with life, Thea danced on, her movements a hypnotic rhythm that echoed the beating heart of Neo-Tokyo itself. In her apartment, surrounded by the hum of technology and the glow of screens, she knew that in the realm of dreams and desires, she held the power to create, to seduce, and to liberate."

Untitled - View on black www.flickr.com/photos/declarationsphotography/5661057191/... Stare at the light in the window and it seems to pulsate (or maybe it's just because I've been awake all night). Photo by Larry Brown.
Astrophoto deprivation due to bad weather for 3 months got me yesterday into processing a bunch of Hubble images. I ended up doing 4 of them in a single evening (!!) and I'll be sharing them here, of course.
This first image is that of a star. Its name is RS Puppis, a pulsating star that changes luminosity in a constant loop. It is uniquely surrounded by a large dusty nebula and, due to the very large distances involved, the light variations of the star do not propagate instantly in the nebula, creating wonderful light echoes over time. I tried to produce an image where the colors are more neutral, the image is cleaner and with the fainter structures more visible than in other versions I've seen - that was my goal, at least. Hope you like it!
This spectacular image from the Hubble Space Telescope captures the spiral galaxy NGC 105, which lies roughly 215 million light-years away in the constellation Pisces.
While it looks like NGC 105 is plunging edge-on into a neighboring galaxy, this is just a circumstance of perspective. NGC 105’s elongated neighbor is actually far more distant. Such visual associations are the result of our Earthly perspective and they occur frequently in astronomy.
Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3 observations in this image are from a vast collection of Hubble measurements examining nearby galaxies that contain two fascinating astronomical phenomena – Cepheid variable stars and cataclysmic supernova explosions. While these two phenomena may appear unrelated – one is a peculiar class of pulsating stars and the other is the explosion caused by the catastrophic death of a massive star – astronomers use both to measure the vast distances to astronomical objects.
Both Cepheids and supernovae have very predictable luminosities. Astronomers use these so-called “standard candles” to determine distances by comparing how bright these objects appear from Earth to their actual brightness. NGC 105 contains both supernovae and Cepheid variables, giving astronomers the opportunity to calibrate the two distance measurement techniques against one another.

Poem.
Beautiful Affric.
As if the Caledonian Forest breathes out, the mist slowly rises like a spirit rising to the ethereal heavens.
Just visible, the River Affric surges down the valley, two hundred feet below, just east of Dog Falls.
Life here is so abundant, from Golden Eagle to Wood Ants,
from Red Deer Stag to Pine-Marten.
In the dawn, a slow pulse of life gathers pace.
Life begins to pulsate, quietly but tangibly.
The carpet of life is mesmerising.
Stately, dignified Scots Pine sweep up and down these slopes for over thirty miles.
Early golden gorse contrasts with still burnished bracken.
“Lambs-tail” catkins quivering in the slightest breeze confirm that spring has arrived.
Delicate silver-birch branches hang, bare of leaves, but laden with tiny buds.
The sun is rising fast and soon the mist will burn away.
The promise of a glorious new day creates a quiet excitement and anticipation.
This place is very special.
It has a spirit that absorbs my own and softly whispers its reassuring but unassuming reality.
It beckons the senses to see, hear and feel its stupendous splendour, again and again!

A silhouetted, rapier-like peninsula piercing the radiant splendour of a pewter-grey sea.
Domed islands capped by the heavenly spokes of a setting-sun.
Timeless beauty.
Silence, but for the distant scream of a gull and the gentle, pulsating whistle of an oyster-catcher.
Sky, rock, sand, light and sea uniquely combine
to produce a glimpse inside heaven’s door.
Don’t yearn for heaven.
Look around.

Andrea Mantegna (1431 - 1506) - Profile of a Man or Male Portrait (circa 1450) - tempera on canvas size 32.3 × 28.8 cm - Museo Poldi Pezzoli, Milan
In the portrait there is an elderly man in profile, whose dress and headgear have suggested to the critics the identification with a magistrate of the Venetian Republic or with a jurisconsult, or however with a character of high lineage. The painting is noteworthy for its intense expressive force: the will to characterize the subject realistically is particularly evident in the unkempt beard on the chin and in the pulsating veins of the temple.
From this angle the ceiling almost looks as if it could pulsate and give birth to some kind of amorphous creature. Fortunately it didn't, or I have to say this picture might have been considerably more blurry! ;-) Best seen On Black.

Amidst the whispers of a forgotten era, a stone bird perched silently, its wings outstretched in perpetual yearning. It starkly contrasted the grandeur and artifice surrounding it, symbolising a reality untouched by illusion. Its form seemed to pulsate in the stillness with a longing for liberation, a silent echo of the countless souls who had once sought solace within these walls. Frozen in mid-flight, the bird embodied their collective desire to transcend the artificial and find truth in the unyielding embrace of the stone.

"Pulsating publicity, Batman!! That Daily Planet truck is showing everyone that Clark Kent is really Superman!"
"Not... as it seems, Robin. Clark said that the Daily Planet is promoting him as one of their most popular reporters. Clark's opening his shirt to show that he is the Superman of the Daily Planet."
"But, Batman! He's really Superman!! And no one is supposed to know!"
"They will know if you keep shouting it in the Chevron parking lot, Robin. Inside voice, please."
"Gosh, Batman! I don't-"
"There is a more pressing issue, Robin. Riding atop the truck... one Harley Quinn..."

The thematic content of toys not directly connected the super-hero in question were often questionable at best. I.e. you want to capitalize on the popularity of the Hulk and you're already producing plastic motorcycles, so you just stick Hulk on a motorcycle, add some Hulk decals and there you go. Never mind that the Hulk didn't ride motorcycles, or that Superman certainly wouldn't have needed one. But, what other way are you going to connect the toy to the character so that you can sell it?
Here Corgi does that very thing. They had an existing Chevy van mold and since Superman doesn't need vehicles, they just put an image of Supes on the side:
www.flickr.com/photos/paprihaven/50016539413/
This accomplishes taking advantage of the license and it doesn't necessarily interfere with the normalcy of the comics. There is no reason to assume this is Superman's van. It's a van with Superman on the side and certainly, in 1976, people were putting Superman and all sorts of murals on the sides of their vans.
But here in our photo, they have their Leyland van mold. It's a delivery truck, so their idea to make it a Daily Planet delivery truck is good. However, the image they use shows Clark Kent becoming Superman... They could have used any images of Superman so why they chose something that would be so incongruous with the comic narrative, i.e. Superman's secret identity being exposed on a delivery truck, I don't know, but it's probably because no one really thought along those lines. It was probably that the image looked good on the truck.
So we thought it was kind of like one of those comic book "clickbait" covers where we could explain it through the narrative. Which we have Batman doing... 😊

The Flinders Ranges contains some of the oldest exposed rock on the planet. Earlier this day I laid my hand on rocks 600 million years old. Was the Flinders an ancient connection point through time? For millennia the Aboriginal people have spoken of the "Star People" and the "lights" seen in these parts. Was this my time to see the creation of something so close to me?
As the intense energy pulsated I wanted to keep the portal open! I love light and the energy it brings to my nights, and to my life. My only choice was to praise. I desperately wanted to see the Ball of LIght, desperately, it had been so long.
It felt right!

Immerse yourself in the pulsating heart of Tokyo's Shinjuku district, where the collision of technology and humanity paints a mesmerizing scene. In this panning shot, time stands still for a fleeting moment as a JR train whizzes by, its sleek form revealing a solitary figure in the middle of the frame gazing towards the captivating city lights. The synergy of movement and stillness creates an otherworldly atmosphere, reminiscent of the iconic aesthetics found in cyberpunk masterpieces like Blade Runner and The Matrix.
As the train carves its path through the bustling streets, a symphony of lights ignites the urban landscape, casting a hypnotic motion blur upon the vibrant signs and neon-lit facades in a cinematic dance, where reality and imagination converge, transporting us to a realm where technology intertwines with the human spirit.

Wikipedia calls jellyfish “free-swimming marine animals consisting of a gelatinous umbrella-shaped bell and trailing tentacles. The bell can pulsate for locomotion, while stinging tentacles can be used to capture prey.”
Elephants in musth often discharge a thick tar-like secretion called temporin from the temporal ducts on the sides of the head. Musth is linked to sexual arousal or establishing dominance, but this relationship is far from clear. Wild bulls in musth often produce a characteristic low, pulsating rumbling noise (known as "musth rumble") which can be heard by other elephants for considerable distances. The rumble has been shown to prompt attraction and reply vocalizations from cows in heat, but silent avoidance behaviour from other bulls (particularly juveniles) and non-receptive females, suggesting an evolutionary benefit to advertising the musth state.

A free Spirit
Mirit Ben-Nun was born in Beer- Sheva in 1966. Over the years she has presented in solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Israel and around the world.
When she was six, her father was killed in a car accident, leaving behind his wife and two daughters, Mirit and Dana.
Ben-Nun had difficulty concentrating on studies, which caused behavioral problems, and at the age of fourteen she dropped out of the education system and went to work. The colors and writing tools gave her a quiet private space and her own way of surviving. Creativity eased her tumultuous soul.
Until her early 30’s she worked as a telemarketer and for the next fourteen years she doodled and doodled. While talking to customers she filled thousands of pages with lines and dots that resembled hundreds of compressed eggs and seeds which she threw away.
In a large portion of each page she would pick a random word and would write it down over and over while concentrating on her hand movements.
Even then she noticed the rising of her need and obsession as she practiced the endless doodling and writing.
Ben-Nun testifies that the lack of artistic training to paint "correctly" freed her from adhering to the rules of painting and allowed her freedom and spirit of rebellion.
In 1998, she received a bunch of canvases and acrylic paints as a gift from her sister.
She brought the acrylic into her world of lines and dots; she went back to painting women and masks that appeared in her childhood paintings and flooded them with lines and dots without separating body and background.
This is also the moment when Ben-Nun began to refer to herself as a painter.
and when art became the center of her life.
The intense colors in Ben-Nun's paintings sweep the viewer into a sensual experience. The viewer traces the surge of dots and lines formed in packed layers of paint. The movement leads to a kind of female-male hormonal dance within the human body and to a communion with an artistic experience of instinct, passion, conceiving and birth.
Contributing to this experience is the wealth of characteristics reminiscent of tribal art. Ben-Nun merges these with a humorous and kicking contemporary Western Pop art. In the language of unique art, Ben-Nun creates an unconventional conversation between past and present cultures.
It is evident that the paintings emerge from a regenerated need and desire, a force that erupts from her soul, a subconscious survival instinct to which she cannot or does not want to resist.
Ben-Nun places women at the center stage where they are her work focus. The paintings obsessively deal with the existential experience of being a woman in the world. A few of the women's paintings carry feminist slogans stressing the women's struggle in society, a critique for being held to perfection and being required to perform as a model of "beauty, purity and motherhood". Feminism pulsates in Ben-Nun's psyche, through her diverse female images and the play between beauty and unsightliness; Ben-Nun assimilates the consciousness of feminine possibility, of not being "perfect", of being powerful, influential, and outside social norms. This mandates a departure from acceptable limitations where Ben-Nun creates a new world of free spirit for women.
Mirit Ben-Nun is a mother of three and the grandmother of three grandchildren.

The truth is we all come from love, but our relationships have often been a detour from love. I believe that we were all together once as a single, vast, pulsating, luminous consciousness that was divided bit by bit, person by person, into the tiny shining fragments that are our individual souls. Love is the river, each human being a droplet of water, and together, in spite of our fears and resistance, we are returning to love, melting and flowing toward home.

While being so close to the coast here in Wales I thought I would give some long exposure photography a go. For this particular image I decided to forego the huge seascape vista of a coastal shot and instead focus just on the rocks, As I concentrated on the rocks it gave me a sense of tranquilty to see the waves gentley pulsating back and forth and with the long exposure it gave this image a real misty and ethereal feeling to it.

Spring
Further down south, spring has arrived and a brown bear comes out of hibernation, searching for food and water. Ecosystems abound, and as the bear paws around, she is surrounded by networks of underground mycorrhizae, who live in symbiosis with plants, insects, and bacteria. These under-soil mycorrhizae help to provide phosphorus and nitrogen to their soil-plant friends. And every once in a while, these mycorrhizae reproduce and send up fruiting bodies that produce spores, or as we know them, mushrooms, truffles and chanterelles.
Fresh water gives life to surrounding fauna, and with help from the sun, growth is restored. These ecosystems are a source of energy, a glowing nucleus pulsating life into centuries old forests. In these woodlands, a magical owl watches over the cycles of life that have sustained themselves since before humans arrived. Forests that thrived, where once prehistoric animals roamed, and where hybrid dinosaur creatures capture our imaginations. They come to remind us that the fossil fuels we excavate today - oil, gas and coal, come from these ancient forests, plants, algae and plankton. As we consume these decaying organic remains that are over millions of years old, we release carbon dioxide into our airs and consequently cause man made exponential global warming.
As spirits of these ancient plants are released into the skies, they take the form of carbon dioxide and populate the air like vagabonds far from their underground home. Upon their journey drifting through northern skies, they too are witness to the surreal beauty of Aurora Borealis. Northern lights - a sign that solar winds have paid us a visit and altered electrons and protons in Mother Earth’s atmosphere. A reminder that our tiny earthly ecosystems are interconnected with far away giant stars and energies.
Down below, an elder shares the ways of times past when humans lived in harmony with nature, when we lived from earth, with earth, and we would make sure to replenish and respect all living beings. We treated Mother Nature for the grand spirit that she is, abundant, inspiring, magical, and strong. Humans were not above nature but part of her great and wise ecosystems.
The big blue moon overhears these tales and whispers her song down to the waters, making the tides dance to her melody, as the fisherman paddles through the currents and is guided by her nightly sky map. She sings to the fox and the farmer, and all of the villagers below, telling them when to plant their crops in harmony with her lunar cycles, reminding them to cultivate sustainable lands and to respect the wisdom of ancient seeds. The farmer listens intently, casting her eyes up thanking the moon for its song, and grateful for her crop. The farmer’s friend, a Praying Mantis, known as a master predator of arthropods, sits guarding her crop of corn. Corn is a staple food and cultural symbol of Indigenous Peoples across the Americas for over 10,000 years. After Indigenous peoples taught European settlers to grow the indigenous grain, it was introduced around the world. Considered a sacred plant, Maize shapes daily meals, and influences spiritual, physical and economic systems.
Later in the night 18/3/15. The Aurora had faded a bit, except for an unusual pulsating green patch which repeatedly appeared and dissipated over the course a couple of hours.
Orion and and the Southern Cross are both visible in this 180 degree panorama, taken in front of my favourite tree. Nile, Tasmania.
A cloud of volcanic matter has risen over much of Europe from the erupting Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland. A major eruption occured on April 14, 2010, resulting in a plume of volcanic ash being thrown into the atmosphere. Air traffic has been subject to cancellation or delays as airspace across parts of Northern Europe has been closed.
Pulsating eruptive plume reaches above 8 km
