With interchange traffic from CN at Kirk Yard, PF-10 has pulled to a stop just east Ogden Dunes to let this South Bend train pass by before continuing to Michigan City.
The Trumpeter Swans started arriving here in NW Washington a month or so ago. They are in a potato field that is partly flooded, rooting for food. This guy got irritated by something and started pulling feathers on the other.
Wheeling & Lake Erie train 663 is at the end of the line on the Solon Branch at East 91st, East Cleveland, OH. This was a Wednesday extra that ran to take stone up to a fairly new customer, Unique Paving Materials, at 93rd street and pull loads from FPT Recycler's, as seen here.
Three GP35-3's are in leading roll on this day. Rumor has it this job is going to Mon/Wed/Fri.
Thanks to DB for steering me the right direction.

With the Y119 turn from Saginaw on the drawbar, LSRC 6431 and friends pull into the former PM/C&O/CSX McGrew Yard in Flint, MI.
With the return train (and power) for Saginaw already staged at the north end of the yard, the crew will tie this train down and then hop on their return ride home. Lake State runs a tight ship, and this crew will get to sleep in their own beds tonight.
LSRC 6431 was formerly UP 4608, purchased by the Lake State in 2022.

In a gloomy November afternoon right after thanksgiving, M452-28 pulls up to Beaver Street in Baldwin to drop off their 31 autoracks in Baldwin yard. After dropping their autoracks, they would pull all of their 117 Waycross bound cars North.
Somehow, the one of the handful of dash-8's on actual CSX mainline trackage (besides PanAm territory) would lead this train all the way to Waycross from Miami.

After picking up 3 cars from ABC Recycling, Mass Central southbound train pulls into Ware yard where they will cut off a car to shove into Kanzaki paper before heading for home in Palmer. Photo taken July 26, 2017
This cow moose pulled her head from beneath the water and was surprised to see me standing there taking her photo. After the initial stare off - she went back to enjoying her early morning breakfast. I would have stayed there until she wandered away - but I was getting drenched since it was raining hard at the time.

In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the LEGO brick, I thought it would be interesting to recreate the classic LEGO wooden duck (circa 1935) using modern pieces.

Name: Ham
Show Name: Ham on Legs
Breed: American Quarter Horse
Color: Paint
Age: 10
Gelding
Everyone has a kid safe horse, and Iām no exception. Anytime guests come to the farm and want to ride, Ham quickly becomes the first choice. You can ride him anywhere and he does not mind at all. I picked up Ham at a local horse sale. He was a spare work horse and the ranch was downsizing. I hadnāt expected this beefy boy to have a natural talent for Western Pleasure. His gaits are so very smooth. Heās not the fastest horse at western games, but he always tries his hardest.
I plan to offer Ham as my contribution to the charity auction this winter. He would make a great first show horse for someone or a wonderful family companion. He trailers great, rides English and Western, can pull buckboard and is beyond patient!

In the old days of hump yard operation, men manually pulled the pin and uncouple cars as they slowly topped the hump. Itās still done that way today, only the pin puller is also the remote operator for the locomotives shoving long strings of cars too. At North Platte, Nebraskaās, Bailey Yard East Hump, a pin puller is about to send a tank car into the bowl on May 3, 2011.

The Kingsburg Historical Society, of which I'm a board member, is in the process of moving a one hundred-plus-year-old church from the countryside to the historical society park, and then will be renovating it. I've taken over a thousand photos documenting the move, most or which most people will find pretty boring. So I shan't be posting too many, but every now and then something might spring up.
In this image, the church has arrived at the park and is being pulled into it's new site. The building to the upper right is an old country school that was also moved to the park a number of years ago.
If it peeks your interest, you may find more information than you would ever care to know at this site:

All the images on that site were taken by me.
the macromonday theme for yesterday, 1/28, was cloth/fabric and i've got a couple of "almost ran"s.... this is the same piece of cloth (see the first comment box) and as i look at it, this is almost a star.

BN eastbound Laurel to Lincoln #178 is pulling up around the wye at the west end of the yard, passing the "west shack" that used to be THE yard office before all the coal trains started. The "Q" built it with their usual attention to solid construction and I'd hardly call it a shack, but by now the real yard office was perched on top of the portico of the two story Alliance Division offices, a position that afforded the Yardmaster a good look at the controlled (barely) chaos of his domain. Those ore hoppers most likely don't contain ore; they probably have ballast picked up at Guersey where a ballast pit was located. There was also a connection at this time with the Colorado & Wyoming at Guernsey, but the iron ore from the Hartville/Sunrise mine was always - in my observation - in standard hoppers, stained as red as the ballast from Guernsey was. Over those first few ore/ballast jennies is suspended the Q-style cantilever signal bridge that marked the junction of the "Billings main" via Edgemont, Gillette, and Sheridan, with the "south line" that went via Scottsbluff, Wendover and Wind River Canyons to Laurel. The U30c, SD45, and two U30c's are having a good tug on what is probably a good sized train to get it into the yard. The tail end of the train is passing the very beginnings of construction of a new "South Yard" to accomodate all the coal traffic while this originall yard will be relegated to manifest and whatever loaded coal trains need a brief servicing stop.
