My first published photos! Printed for an article on artisans in the Eastern Cape, South Africa- in HAND/EYE Spring 2008, an Aid to Artisans Magazine. I went on an assessment of the craft sector in the area for Aid to Artisans and took a number of photos- these were used to illustrate the article.

Likely the last shot I will publish from that session. It was about -11C and calm, with light snow falling. As usual, I used some fluffy tuques to collect flakes as they were falling, and that's what gives the background its distinctive color and texture.
Pentax D-FA 100mm F/2.8 WR Macro plus HD DA 1.4X AW tele-converter and Raynox DCR-250, with off-camera diffused Godox AD180 flash. 26 frame handheld focus stack, with EXIF from the first frame. Significant crop (~15mp) to 4:3 aspect ratio.

Pleasants Valley Road, one of my favorite places in northern California. There were many old wooden barns along the drive, and dirt side roads framed by beautiful old growth oak trees. The golden yellow grass you see here is one of the reasons California is called the Golden State (besides the Gold Rush, of course). Sadly this grass color is due to dry conditions, and - coupled with hot, dry winds - it expoded into wildfire in August, 2022: The so-called "Pleasants" fire destroyed everything in its path, including homes and the highly-flammable wood of old rustic barns. Some people were injured, and livestock were lost. It was heartbreaking seeing it from the first fire reports. Some of my brother and sister firefighters responded hundreds of miles to help fight that fire and numerous others in the area.

Hi Folks,
I just published a new imaging project on my website.
Messier 101 - The Pinwheel Galaxy with the recently discovered supernova - SN2023ixf!
This target is located 21 Million light-years away in the constellation of Ursa Major.
This was about a 3-hour exposure in LRGB using my widefield Askar FRA400 Platform.
Everybody and their brother seems out there shooting images of this galaxy with its supernova.
And who's to blame them? Supernovae are amazing events. At the end of its life, a star explodes, releasing as much energy in one second as our Sun will emit in its entire lifetime!
This does not happen every day, and to have one in a galaxy as beautiful as the Pinwheel is worth shooting.
But with so many images of this out there - why should I shoot it tool. Do I think I can do better than everyone else? Hardly!
This is such a cool event that I did want to have one captured in my portfolio.
But during my last imaging session, my widefield Askar FRA400 Platform was the only scope that was untasked. During galaxy season, there are relatively few large targets to shoot. So I pointed it at M101 and decided to go for it!
My expectations were very low, though:
- A widefield scope shooting a galaxy - that will be a problem!
- I was only able to get 3 hours of integration - my last shot of M101 had 11 hours - so that's going to be a problem
- I am shooting with some thin smoke from the Alberta Wildfires in the air - that IS a problem.
So why shoot it at all?
- Supernovae are one the coolest events in our night sky - I wanted to capture an image of that - even a poor one!
- I saw this as an opportunity to dive into what supernovae were all about and describe that in my web write-up
- I have the twisted part of my personality that likes the challenge of getting a better image out of compromised data
I drizzle processed, then cropped like mad, and took advantage of BlurXTerminator and NoiseXTerninaor to help improve a dicey image.
The final result is not wonderful, but it is not horrible either!

I've strolled through Riverside Park on several previous occasions (click here to see a collection of approximately seven other Flickr albums of my Riverside Park photos) -- but even though the sign at the 96th Street entrance is always the same, and the pathway is always the same, the people and the individual vignettes are always different.
Sometimes it's simply a function of the weather: people dress differently, act differently, and are engaged in different activities in early spring than they do in summer or late fall. But much of it simply has to do with the incredible variety of people who take advantage of the opportunity to relax, read a book, jog, or picnic with their families.
So ... this just happens to be what it looked like in Riverside Park on the last day of May, in 2009.

Oscar's Art Books on Broadway is closing down. I have visited the bookstore for many years and I made purchases of lots of arts and photography books there.
I had dream before that one day I might have a large format photography book published and sold in Oscar. But this is not going to happen anyway even when Oscar continues on the business! :o(
The owner said to Georgia Straight, the local newspaper that it was internet the prime reason to kill their business.
I will miss this nice independent art bookstore.
I visited Oscar last week and took a shot of the wall with artwork display. Oscar has local artist's work displayed in the store.

Upper East Side, Central Park - Jun 2008 - 085
These pictures were taken on two successive days when I had doctor appointments on the Upper East Side of NYC, and had the chance to walk along Fifth Avenue, and then through Central Park in order to return to my apartment on the Upper West Side, at Broadway & 96th
I had spotted this woman jogging in Central Park a little earlier -- how could you not notice someone in a bright pink top and pink hat? She had been running south, while I was walking north, and she went by too quickly for me to get a picture.
But about ten minutes later, as I was approaching Columbus Avenue and 96th Street, she jogged past me again ... she had to stop at Columbus Avenue, because of the traffic, so she was actually jogging in place when I took this picture...
Note: on Sep 26, 2012, I replaced the original version of this photo with a slightly edited one. All I did was some relatively minor adjusting of "hot spots" and "cold spots" -- but unfortunately, I was unable to remove all the monochromatic blackness in the woman's tights Unfortunately, the original photo was shot as a JPG image, before I learned about the benefits of shooting in RAW and making more subtle adjustments with my Aperture photo-editing program...

The Vietnam Memorial opened to the public on November 11, 1982. I visited not too long after that, though I don't remember exactly when. All I remember was that it was a dark, cold, drizzly Saturday afternoon, and that it was very, very sad.
God knows how many times I've been back to Washington since then, but some 25 years after my initial visit, I thought I should come back and see it again ... when the weather was likely to be better, and when I would likely see a different generation of visitors.
I made two separate visits, and got two different impressions. My second visit was just before dawn, at 5:45 AM. There was a crescent moon, and one star, in the pink-and-purple sky; but there were no people at all. Though the memorial is simply a chronological list of names, one can imagine that the 58,261 dead are sleeping in peace as the night fades away and the sun returns to warm the granite stone once again. I took a few pictures of this early scene; you can decide for yourself if it's peaceful or sad.
My first visit was just before sunset, on a Sunday evening. I heard one of the park guides telling her flock that the summer crowds had been smaller this year than in the past, but there were still plenty of people along the length of the wall. What interested me most about the visitors was their age: I saw a few people who looked old enough to have been adults back in the Vietnam era, though I saw no one in uniform, and no one who looked like he or she had actually been there.
But there were far more people of a younger generation: people in their 30s or 40s, whose father or mother or uncle or aunt might have served in that war. Not surprisingly, I saw people carefully searching out specific names, and resting their finger or hand for long moments on a single name, as if they might somehow be able to communicate with a dead relative after all these years.
And then there were the children -- some as young as one or two, but most looked to be 8 or 10 or 12. They may have been the grandchildren of some fallen soldier, or they may have been entirely unrelated to those 58,261 individuals. But one way or another, you could see that the Wall made an impact on them: they were quiet and reverent, respectful of what they could barely grasp, as the list of names surrounded them and stretched as far as they could see, to the left and to the right.
Indeed, the very idea of creating a monument that consists of nothing but a long inclined wall containing a list of names is so simple, so ... well, almost primitive ... that you can't imagine it would have any impact, at least not on the typical jaded visitor. But it does have an impact, it really does...
If you haven't seen this memorial, you owe it to yourself to carve out a little time when you next visit Washington. And if, like me, it's been 10 or 20 or 25 years since you last saw it, I think you need to come see it again.

Matthew Parker (6 August 1504 – 17 May 1575) was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1559 until his death in 1575. He was also an influential theologian and arguably the co-founder (with Thomas Cranmer and Richard Hooker) of Anglican theological thought.
Parker was one of the primary architects of the Thirty-Nine Articles, the defining statements of Anglican doctrine. The Parker collection of early English manuscripts, including the book of St. Augustine Gospels and Version A of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, was created as part of his efforts to demonstrate that the English Church was historically independent from Rome, creating one of the world's most important collections of ancient manuscripts.
The eldest son of William Parker, he was born in Norwich, in St. Saviour's parish. His mother's maiden name was Alice Monins, and she may have been related by marriage to Thomas Cranmer. When William Parker died, in about 1516, his widow married John Baker. Matthew was sent in 1522 to Corpus Christi College, Cambridge,[1] where he is said to have been contemporary with William Cecil, but Cecil was only two years old at the time. Parker graduated BA in 1525, was ordained deacon in April and priest in June 1527, and was elected fellow of Corpus in the following September. He commenced MA in 1528, and was one of the Cambridge scholars whom Thomas Wolsey wished to transplant to his newly founded "Cardinal College" at Oxford.
Parker, like Cranmer, declined the invitation. He had come under the influence of the Cambridge reformers, and after Anne Boleyn's recognition as queen he was made her chaplain. Through her, he was appointed dean of the college of secular canons at Stoke-by-Clare in 1535. Hugh Latimer wrote to him in that year urging him not to fall short of the expectations which had been formed of his ability. In 1537 he was appointed chaplain to King Henry VIII. In 1538 he was threatened with prosecution, but the Bishop of Dover, however, reported to Thomas Cromwell that Parker "hath ever been of a good judgment and set forth the Word of God after a good manner. For this he suffers some grudge." He graduated DD in that year, and in 1541 was appointed to the second prebend in the reconstituted cathedral church of Ely. In 1544, on Henry VIII's recommendation, he was elected master of Corpus Christi College, and in 1545 vice-chancellor of the university. He got into some trouble with the chancellor, Stephen Gardiner, over a ribald play, Pammachius, performed by the students, which derided the old ecclesiastical system.
On the passing of the act of parliament in 1545 enabling the king to dissolve chantries and colleges, Parker was appointed one of the commissioners for Cambridge, and their report may have saved its colleges from destruction. Stoke, however, was dissolved in the following reign, and Parker received a generous pension. He took advantage of the new reign to marry in June, 1547, before clerical marriages had been legalized by parliament and convocation, Margaret, daughter of Robert Harlestone, a Norfolk squire. During Kett's Rebellion, he preached in the rebels' camp on Mousehold Hill, without much effect, and later encouraged his secretary, Alexander Neville, to write his history of the rising.
Parker's association with Protestantism advanced with the times, and he received higher promotion under John Dudley, 1st Duke of Northumberland than under the moderate Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset. At Cambridge, he was a friend of Martin Bucer and preached Bucer's funeral sermon in 1551. In 1552 he was promoted to the rich deanery of Lincoln, and in July 1553 he supped with Northumberland at Cambridge, when the duke marched north on his hopeless campaign against the accession of Mary Tudor. As a supporter of Northumberland and a married man, under the new regime Parker was deprived of his deanery, his mastership of Corpus Christi, and his other preferments. However, he survived Mary's reign without leaving the country – a fact that probably aggravated more ardent Protestants who went into exile and idealized their fellows who were martyred by Queen Mary. Parker respected authority, and when his time came he could consistently impose authority on others. He was not eager to assume this task, and made great efforts to avoid promotion to the archbishopric of Canterbury, which Elizabeth designed for him as soon as she had succeeded to the throne.
He was elected on 1 August 1559 but, given the turbulence and executions that had preceded Elizabeth's accession, it was difficult to find the requisite four bishops willing and qualified to consecrate Parker, and not until December 19 was that ceremony performed at Lambeth by William Barlow, formerly Bishop of Bath and Wells, John Scory, formerly Bishop of Chichester, Miles Coverdale, formerly Bishop of Exeter, and John Hodgkins, Bishop of Bedford. The allegation of an indecent consecration in the Nag's Head Fable seems first to have been made by the Jesuit, Christopher Holywood, in 1604, and has since been discredited. Parker's consecration was, however, legally valid only by the plentitude of the royal supremacy; the Edwardine Ordinal, which was used, had been repealed by Mary Tudor and not re-enacted by the parliament of 1559. The Roman Catholic Church asserted that the form of consecration used was insufficient to make a bishop, and therefore represented a break in the Apostolic Succession, but the Church of England has rejected this, arguing that the form of words used made no difference to the substance or validity of the act.
Elizabeth wanted a moderate man, so she chose Parker. There was also an emotional attachment. Parker had been the favourite chaplain of Elizabeth's mother, Anne Boleyn. Before Anne was arrested in 1536, she had entrusted Elizabeth's spiritual well-being to Parker. A few days after this, Anne had been executed following charges of adultery, incest and treason. Parker also possessed all the qualifications Elizabeth expected from an archbishop except celibacy. He mistrusted popular enthusiasm, and he wrote in horror of the idea that "the people" should be the reformers of the Church. He was not an inspiring leader, and no dogma, no prayer-book, not even a tract or a hymn is associated with his name. The 56 volumes published by the Parker Society include only one by its eponymous hero, and that is a volume of correspondence. He was a disciplinarian, a scholar, a modest and moderate man of genuine piety and irreproachable morals. His historical research was exemplified in his De antiquitate ecclesiae, and his editions of Asser, Matthew Paris, Thomas Walsingham, and the compiler known as Matthew of Westminster; his liturgical skill was shown in his version of the psalter and in the occasional prayers and thanksgivings which he was called upon to compose. He left a priceless collection of manuscripts, largely collected from former monastic libraries, to his college at Cambridge. The Parker Library at Corpus Christi bears his name and houses his collection.
Parker avoided involvement in secular politics and was never admitted to Elizabeth's privy council. Ecclesiastical politics gave him considerable trouble. Some of the evangelical reformers wanted liturgical changes and at least the option not to wear certain clerical vestments, if not their complete prohibition. Early presbyterians wanted no bishops, and the conservatives opposed all these changes, often preferring to move in the opposite direction toward the practices of the Henrician church. The queen herself begrudged episcopal privilege until she eventually recognised it as one of the chief bulwarks of the royal supremacy. To Parker's consternation, the queen refused to add her imprimatur to his attempts to secure conformity, though she insisted that he achieve this goal. Thus Parker was left to stem the rising tide of Puritan feeling with little support from parliament, convocation or the Crown. The bishops' Interpretations and Further Considerations, issued in 1560, tolerated a lower vestiarian standard than was prescribed by the rubric of 1559, but it fell short of the desires of the anti-vestiarian clergy like Coverdale (one of the bishops who had consecrated Parker) who made a public display of their nonconformity in London.
The Book of Advertisements, which Parker published in 1566, to check the anti-vestiarian faction, had to appear without specific royal sanction; and the Reformatio legum ecclesiasticarum, which John Foxe published with Parker's approval, received neither royal, parliamentary nor synodical authorization. Parliament even contested the claim of the bishops to determine matters of faith. "Surely," said Parker to Peter Wentworth, "you will refer yourselves wholly to us therein." "No, by the faith I bear to God," retorted Wentworth, "we will pass nothing before we understand what it is; for that were but to make you popes. Make you popes who list, for we will make you none." Disputes about vestments had expanded into a controversy over the whole field of Church government and authority, and Parker died on May 17, 1575, lamenting that Puritan ideas of "governance" would "in conclusion undo the queen and all others that depended upon her." By his personal conduct he had set an ideal example for Anglican priests, and it was not his fault that national authority failed to crush the individualistic tendencies of the Protestant Reformation.

I tried an HDR (high dynamic range) photo once a year ago, but for some reason never pursued it. But it seems that more of and more of the "interesting" photos that I see on Flickr are HDR shots, so I decided to give it another try. The first of these HDR shots were taken from the rooftop of my apartment building at sunset, on the Sunday evening of 4th of July weekend. Subsequent shots (including this one) have been taken out on the street, from the terrace of my apartment at night, and walking through Central Park at mid-day...
This photo is one of a group of ten that I took in the "Sheep Meadow" area at the south end of Central Park. I knew that the trees, the grass, the buildings, and the sky/clouds would be stationary, and I figured that I could pick a time/scene where most, if not all, of the picnickers and sunbathers were reasonably stationary. But there were always a few people in motion, especially the young kids; and though the "ghosting" effect of their movement is sometimes interesting, I think I've concluded that it gets annoying after a while. But aside from that, it is possible to take these HDR sequences (which, in the case of these Sheep Meadow shots, involve the merging of 5 separate images into one composite) in a handheld fashion, without a tripod.
I still have a *lot* to learn about this stuff, but even as a first attempt I'm staggered by what the tonal-mapping software programs (Photomatix, in my case) are capable of doing...
Got my first picture published in the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Trust 2018 Calendar. They have 2 pictures a month, one big and one little supporting shot, and unfortunately I only had a little spot. Oh well. From small beginnings maybe something bigger next year!

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

偶然だが、おととしの今日、私は新型コロナウィルスのワクチンを接種した。
みなさんのなかには、すでに二度目の接種を受けた方もいるだろう。
この新型コロナウィルスは世界に1つの境界線を引いた。
それまでとそれ以降だ。
私たちを取り巻く環境は激変した。
ウィルスに対応するためあらゆる場所に除菌液が設置され、部屋の空気を浄化し、そんな環境が至る所に展開されてきた。
アップルも、これらを認識しつつ、新しいプロジェクトに臨んできた。
新しい価値観を受け入れるためには、新しいスタイルが必要だ。
私たちの周囲もアップデートされなければ、私たちは生き残れないだろう。
アップルは時代を生き残るために、いくつかを提示してきた。
パーソナルコンピューターであるマッキントッシュ。
音楽デバイスであるアイポッド。
携帯電話であるアイフォーン。
そして、今日、アップルはみなさんに伝えたいことがある。
それはもうひとつのサヴァイヴだ。
アップルカー。
アップルは車を再発明する。
これまでの自動車の状態
今までのガソリン車を振り返ってみよう。
ガソリンという化石燃料を使い、ガスを排出する。そして環境を悪化させてきた。
山林は業火に見舞われ、大雨の大洪水に街はさらわれ、乾いた大地が覆い尽くす。
これからもこの状態が続くという事は地球自体の崩壊を招く。
私たちはそれを止めなければならない。少なくとも見直しに取り掛かることが重要だ。
世界的にトップだったトヨタはこれに積極的に取り掛からなかった。
すでに多くの世界で走っているハイブリッドのプリウス。
これは１９９２年に発表されたにも関わらず、新しい車種でさえも未だにハイブリッドのままだ。
発売してからの約３０年もの間、いったい彼らは何を目的としてこの車に固執し、開発してきたのか？
なぜ彼らはこの車種を見直さなかったのか？
現状のハイブリット、プラグインハイブリット。そういった類は結局は化石燃料を使っている。
彼らはこの新しい展開に積極的に臨んできたというが、現状維持という考えを変えなかった。
むしろ現時点においても、それがベストだとさえ言ってるように思えてならない。
私たちはそこで他の会社も見渡してみた。
電気自動車の現在
テスラだ。
皆さんご存知のようにテスラは積極的に環境問題に取り組み、世界規模で大きく発展し貢献してきた。化石燃料を使わない、そして自動運転、洗練されたデザイン。これらは多くの人たちを魅了してきた。
しかし広く普及はしたものの、皆さんの家のそばにこの車は走ってるだろうか？
答えはノーだ。
なぜ車が走っていないか。
私たちは3時間ほどしっかり考えた。
まぁ、たった3時間だが。
答えは単純だ。
車が高いからだ。高価すぎるのだ。
これはテスラに限らず電気自動車を作っているすべての会社に言えることだ。
とにかく車の値段が高すぎる。
私たちはこれを念頭に置きつつ、車を再発明した。
アップルカーのポイント
アップルカーのポイントは三つだ。
ひとつめ。
価格。
電気自動車が普及しない理由は非常に簡単だ。
価格が高いからだ
なぜ電気自動車が高いのか。それは本体価格の大半を占めるバッテリーの値段が最も高いからだ。
それが大きく占めている。
そこでアップルはリン酸鉄リチウムイオンバッテリーと言う素材を使うことに行き着いた。
これは全個体電池のように高価ではなく安価で、iPhoneのように充電する時間は短く、すぐに使えることを優先させ、かつ、耐久性に優れていると言うポイントがある。
私たちはこの2点を重視した。
車を短時間で充電し、短距離を即、走行可能となることを目指した。
iPhoneやアップルウォッチと同じ結論を反映させたのだ。
現在、電気自動車は長距離を走ることを目標としているが、果たして、きょう、あなたが会社から帰る際に、長距離用のバッテリが必要だろうか？
何百キロも走ることが必要だろうか？
すぐに家に帰り、すぐに充電し、また朝には出勤する。
全個体電池などという長距離が走れる高価なバッテリは、現段階では不要なのだ。
アップルはそう判断した。
次にアップルが目指したポイントの2つ目は安全性だ。
WHOの報告では、年間で世界中の事故死者数は１３５万人に上る。
これは、２４秒にひとりが命を落としている計算になる。
アップルはこの事故を劇的に減らそうと考えた。
Apple Watchを腕に巻いた子供が車の下にいた場合。

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

On our first day in Alaska, we drove south on the Seward Highway and enjoyed epic mountain views across the Turnagain Arm. The weather was beautiful, but I was greedy and wanted to return the next morning to capture some stunning morning light. While at the hotel, I checked the weather forecast for the next day and realized my mistake. It was going to be 20°F, and gale-force winds were expected. Since we only had a few days in Anchorage, I decided to take the risk and brave the conditions. My wife and daughter decided not to join me on this adventure.
While driving on the highway to reach the viewpoints, nothing noteworthy happened. However, the cold weather was unbearable, particularly with the wind chill. I prepared the camera beforehand to capture the images and would quickly run out of the car with my camera & tripod once the light became interesting. After taking the shot, I would hurry back inside the car to warm up. Thankfully, the views were breathtaking; the taller peaks appeared to have received a light dusting of snow overnight. With the warm morning light reflecting perfectly on the mountains that were now covered entirely in snow, all I had to do was just point and shoot.

I set up the studio for another try at shooting ants.
Camera and lens: Canon Xti (manual mode f8, 1/200. ISO 100) + Tamron 2x teleconverter + extension tubes (25mm and 37mm) + Canon 100mm macro lens. Magnification is between 2.8 and 3.3 times life size.
Lighting: MR-14 EX set to a 4:1 ratio and -1/3 FEC. I set the MR-14's ratio control for a third channel and setup a 430EX flash with a Lumiquest Pocket Bouncer that had a gold reflector insert (to make the light "warm"). I set the 430EX to -2/3 FEC via the MR-14 and positioned it so that the bouncer was directly over the "studio".

Bram Stoker’s Dracula

Like word of the discovery of gold at Sutter’s Mill in 1849 drew thousands of fortune hunters to California, news that a few rare comic books can be worth thousands of dollars prompted many to become comics collectors. Most will be disappointed, and then move on to other ventures.
Ventures such as trading cards. They are the hot ‘collectors’ item now. Capitalizing on the demand, many comic book stores also carry a wide variety of trading cards.
The next step in this melding of collectibles has now been taken. Topps – one of the major producers of trading cards for many years – recently decided to branch out and form its own comic book publishing arm.
The first fruit of their labor is now available. Entitled “Bram Stoker’s Dracula”, it is an adaptation of the motion picture playing in theaters now. Insiders have questioned the wisdom of starting a line off with such a title. Movie adaptations of recent vintage aren’t usually highly valued as collectibles – especially if the movie should flop.
Also, by the time all four issues of this mini-series can see print, the original will be well on its way to video stores. This likewise plays to the theory that people won’t be interested in reading a comic when it’s faster and better to see the actual movie.
Such considerations aside, this is an excellent comic book in terms of scripting, artwork, and overall production values. If nothing else, it proves that Topps can be expected to produce comics with the same high standards of quality that they employ in their trading cards.
It can be enjoyed as a supplement to the movie (and to the original novel), and comes highly recommended as such.
