Has to be one of the oldest Tahoes still in service in any major city

A different kind of picture than what I usually post, with a very strong message. Another point of view on domestic violence.

Still a taboo subject. Let's talk about it. Let's spread the message. Let's take action !

Stop Violence Against Women. Miss Virtual Diva Campaign.

*** I also want to thank each one of you who took the time to just stop and look at this picture. No faves or likes are needed, but hopefully I caught your attention for 5 seconds to think about such an important issue like violence against women is. Thank you <3<3

Not sure who put all these signs up on campus, but I'm all about the raising awareness/empowering women.

And even in these troubled times, yes, my mail arrives every day and so it seems right to add my small thanks to the staff of the Post Office and Royal Mail for providing what is, and let no one forget, an essential public service.

This picture of a once typical Morris Mini based van appears in a c1965 booklet issued by the GPO "The Post Office and You". WLA 956 was in fact the prototype of the Mini Van for the GPO, with 957 being the second but in the green telephones livery, and after 1960 others of this type were delivered.

The illustration did, in some way, ring a bell and yes here it is : reused on the front cover of the Ladybird Book "People at Work, the Postman and the Postal Services" issued in 1965.

- "Of course I got caught."

(Swedish ‘påkommen’ – caught, exposed, found out, caught red-handed, caught in the act)

If anyone knows more about where the phrase might appear – book, film – or the person in the picture, I’d be very glad to know.

All free to use and no booking required. Accessible for families with low incomes and low/no savings. Haringey Council is consulting on moving away from such old-fashioned ideas, towards Splash'n'Play features which involve booking, queuing, and possible high charges to boot.

Manif fonction publique 22 mars 2018

Grosse mobilisation à Lyon !

15.000 manifestants

Demontration in Lyon, France, to maintain our public services - against government's laws.

French people protesting against upcoming reforms bad for the quality of public services. As a result of those reforms, criteria of public service begin to give way to those of profitability. Our state services in France (heath, school, railway...) are among the best services in the world. But all the reforms impulsed by the government aim to slowly replace this very efficient public sector (open to everybody) by a private sector only focussed on financial gains. State-based social services and welfare entitlements are cut back or replaced by market-based provisions available only to those who can afford to pay.

On March 22, hundreds of thousands of nurses, teachers and other public sector workers joined forces to march against French President Emmanuel Macron’s reforms all over the country yesterday.

Estimates of the numbers of those joining rallies held in some 140 locations across the country vary between 323,000 (the ‘official’ tally) and 500,000, the figure issued by the Confédération Générale du Travail (CGT), one of the principal trade union organiser of the action.

The only way I could get to view the Parade. Portland Street, Manchester, England August 27 2016. The crowds were in their hundreds and this was the only view of the parade I could get, courtesy of someone else....!

John Grantham, Sheriff of Newcastle attending the consecration of a new Jewish synagogue, Ravensworth Terrace, Newcastle upon Tyne, 8 September 1925 (TWAM ref. DF.GRA/1/3).

These images belong to a series of albums documenting John Grantham’s service to the City of Newcastle upon Tyne as its Sheriff 1924-1925 and its Lord Mayor 1936-1937. John Grantham was born in Blyth in 1877 and became a cinema proprietor in Newcastle. He was elected to the City Council in 1912 and became an alderman in 1932. The albums give us an interesting insight into the duties of Lord Mayor and Sheriff as well as a fascinating picture of the times.

2016 is the 800th anniversary of the creation of Newcastle's Mayoralty and Burgesses.
