Demontration in Lyon, France, to maintain our public services - against government's laws.
French people protesting against upcoming reforms bad for the quality of public services. As a result of those reforms, criteria of public service begin to give way to those of profitability. Our state services in France (heath, school, railway...) are among the best services in the world. But all the reforms impulsed by the government aim to slowly replace this very efficient public sector (open to everybody) by a private sector only focussed on financial gains. State-based social services and welfare entitlements are cut back or replaced by market-based provisions available only to those who can afford to pay.
On March 22, hundreds of thousands of nurses, teachers and other public sector workers joined forces to march against French President Emmanuel Macron’s reforms all over the country yesterday.
Estimates of the numbers of those joining rallies held in some 140 locations across the country vary between 323,000 (the ‘official’ tally) and 500,000, the figure issued by the Confédération Générale du Travail (CGT), one of the principal trade union organiser of the action.
In 1955 the Hamm's Bear appeared not only in beer commercials, but in a TV public service announcement encouraging people to not litter. According to the November-December 1955 issue of the Hamm's company magazine, Reflections from the land of sky blue waters:
"This is a scene from the public service film produced by Hamm's (anti-litterbug campaign) which has won immediate enthusiastic reaction from television stations.
"The 20-second film features the Hamm's bear in a plea to keep our highways clean. The film was made in cooperation with Swift-Chaplin Studios, Hollywood, and Campbell-Mithun, Inc., Hamm's advertising agency and was sent to television stations throughout Hamm's sales area.
"Some typical comments among television station managers were:
'This is a wonderful service on the part of the Hamm Brewing Co.'
'This is a clever little public service bit.'
'Your treatment will insure frequent use of the film.'
'Your organization is to be commended for this fine effort.' "
Indeed, the message rings as true today as it did in 1955. "Keep our highways clear and clean...Litter always hurts the scene."

Many Jamaican fire trucks have been donated by various governments/organizations and also purchased in various batches, so the Jamaica Fire Brigade has a fairly diverse fleet of machines. This Workstar is one of about 35 purchased from Rosenbauer America by the Jamaican government, and does its work in the capital city, Kingston.
Introduced at the turn of the century, the Excursion was killed by high gas prices after just a few years on the market. It was the largest SUV you could buy in the USA during its time. Today, it's place is occupied in Ford's lineup by an extended version of the Ford Expedition (the "EL" in the States, "Max" in some other markets). The Excursion didn't really come close to matching the sales success of its competitors from GM, and it's successor (the Expedition EL) hasn't managed that feat either.
