I had stopped outside Tetova to fuel up when I spotted this flock of sheep in their idyllic pastoral setting. Unfortunately they were on the other side of a very busy four-lane highway, and I was in a bit of a hurry, so I had to be content snapping the picture from quite a distance.

Psalm 23:4
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death , I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

"Der Herr ist mein Hirte"... Psalm 23
Well, I am not that religious but of course this sentence springs to one's mind when looking at this sculpture of a man (shepherd) and two sheep.
And - after all - Maria Laach is a catholic abbey...
Psalms 23:4 (ANIV)
Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death [1],
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

DRAWING NOTES:
TIME OF DAY:
Daytime.
LIGHTING NOTES:
The sun (unseen, through the trees) illuminated this scene, casting shows to the left of objects & the figure. The sun’s rays are also creating a skull-like illuminated shape on the valley floor.
CHARACTERS PRESENT:
David (son of Jesse).
RESEARCH/ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Psalm 23 is an example of a Psalm of Confidence, which expresses trust in God’s care for & leadership of his people.
This 3rd version of the scene uses the sun’s rays, coming through the trees (& modified by the intervening branches, rocks, etc) to form a skull-like shape on the grass of the valley which King David (the Psalmist) is walking through.

May 25, 2016: With the roses I took from her coffin, and the handout with Psalm 23 on it, I thought this was an appropriate type photo for a solemn day.

Last weekend, I went out for a walk on 'the heather' and came across a sheep pen. This pen was so nicely constructed, and kept clean, it felt like a Home for the 275 sheep ... and me :) All the sheep were beautifully lined up, happy eating, after coming back from their afternoon walk in the fields. #psalm23

1 [A psalm of David.]
The Lord is my shepherd,
I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.

This is my literal interpretation of the Psalmist king David lying in green pastures/meadows, by quiet waters.
The tall pick/purple plant in the foreground is Alcea setosa (aka Bristly hollyhock), which flowers in Israel in April to the beginning of June, and grows to a height of 6.5-9.8 feet (2-3 metres). The leaves, the inflorescence (flower) stalk and the fruits are characterized by bristly hairs on their surfaces. The plant can be found in the following habitats: The Mediterranean Woodlands and Shrublands, Semi-steppe shrublands.
