My passport is going to get killed in this humidity (you must always have your passport on you) so I got this protective sleeve, hopefully it helps somewhat...
Sunday 3 October 2021 saw the first day of Operation Protector. The operation is run by Greater Manchester Police whenever the city hosts a major political conference.
This year sees the Conservative Party Conference take place at Manchester Central.
Day one saw a major protest march and rally.
Greater Manchester Police were on hand to ensure the right to protest, maintain the security of the conference and allow the city to function normally.

Gunditjmara Aboriginal people.
When Robertson the Protector of Aborigines visit Edward Henty at Portland in 1841 he also visited the people around Lake Condah and made notes in his journal of their ingenious eel fishing traps. Like other areas of the Western Districts the Gunditjmara people were sophisticated engineers making woven eel traps from water reeds, building permanent stone shelters and digging canals, stone channels and stone traps to catch the annual spring eel migration downstream to the ocean for breeding. This distinguished them from most other Aboriginal groups in Australia. The richness of wildlife meant they could live semi permanently in one spot. The Gunditjmara lived in a relatively small area between Lake Condah, Mount Eccles and Mount Napier on a volcanic plain riddled with lava flows and lava stones comprising about 100 square kms. The landscape itself was formed about 27,000 years ago after volcanic eruptions by Eccles and Napier. The fish and short finned eel traps here on Darlot Creek are dated to around 8,000 years ago and along with their dams, weirs and channels their engineering works stretched 40 kms. The eels travel to New Caledonia for breeding and return to live in the lakes of Mt Eccles after that. They grow to a metre long and as thick as a man’s arm. Some stonewalls constructed by the Gunditjmara were about 50 metres long. They were built to block particular water channels. Channels were also built at different heights to capture the eels no matter how much water was coming down Darlots Creek. The Gunditjmara supplemented their diet of eels with water birds, ducks, plains turkeys, kangaroos and vegetable foods such as daisy yam and rhizomes of bracken fern. They had not great need to be nomadic here. This was Australia Felix for them too.
This ability to harvest eels and other fish annually meant that they modified the landscape, built engineering works, lived here throughout the year and altered their social systems. Although disputed by some, others claim that Gunditjmara people even “owned” particular spots along the creeks and channels giving them a totally different land system to any other Aboriginal groups in Australia. They had hereditary chiefs and a fairly stratified society. And they had permanent stone shelters covered with reeds like thatch and sods of earth to make them rainproof. The shelter walls were only about one metre high and the houses were semi-circular. The dome roof had a wooden structure beneath it to support the weight of sods. The remains of more than 175 houses have been recorded by archaeologists including 145 in one paddock indicating that the Gunditjmara lived in a village like community. But once white pastoralists came in 1840 the end was nigh for the Gunditjmara. They were driven off the land and eventually into Lake Condah Mission. More archaeological surveys now are being conducted on their lands.
But before the Gunditjmara went on to Lake Condah Mission they resisted the white pastoralists. The so-called Eumeralla Wars erupted and lasted for around twenty years. Eumeralla was a location just south of Macarthur. Thomas Browne squatted on 50,000 acres here in 1844 on a property which he called Squattelsea Mere but the leasehold was held by Benjamin Boyd. At 17 years of age Browne was just one of the workers or managers on site. Browne began by admiring the Aboriginals but once the sheep flocks were raided he retaliated. With other squatters a number of raids were made and many of the family of Jupiter and Cocknose the local warriors were slaughtered in 1845. But the warriors attacked again and this time it was the homestead where Thomas Browne and others lived and this time the Aboriginals stole flour, tea and even silver spoons. Concerned about his safety Browne then asked for police assistance and they in turn mounted another attack on the followers of Jupiter and Cocknose. The warriors were never seen again and more Aboriginal people were killed. This ended the Eumeralla Wars but surprisingly, especially given that police became involved, there is no official record of this event occurring. Contemporary newspaper reports mention the theft of cattle in 1845 but there was no reference to reprisals or murders. In fact the newspaper went on to lament the lack of police assistance for settlers under threat of Aboriginal attack. Was the story just part of Browne’s vivid literary imagination? Browne left this run in 1856. Thomas Browne went on to write about these times (but not these events) under the pseudonym of Rolf Boldrewood. His most famous book was Robbery Under Arms but he also wrote The Squatter’s Dream and The Home Run. Regardless of the veracity of this particular incident there were plenty of other incidents of resistance and massacre in the Western Districts.

Today, Wednesday 2 October 2019, saw the conclusion of Operation Protector.
This is has been the policing operation for the Conservative Party Conference.
Chief Superintendent Wasim Chaudhry, Gold Commander in charge of policing during the Conservative Party Conference said:
“Over the past four days, Manchester has played host to the Conservative Party Conference, which saw just over 12,000 delegates visit our city.
“Policing this event presents a complex security and public order operation, requiring a high degree of multiagency partnership working and the highest levels of professionalism.
“As in previous years, there have been elements of protest throughout the conference period – notably on Sunday 29 September when around 13,000 people marched through the city.
“The vast majority of people attending protests did so peacefully and worked with us to ensure they could voice their opinions in a safe manner and with minimal disruption to others.
“On the occasions where individuals crossed the line we have taken positive action. It’s testament to our balanced policing approach that only four people have been arrested during the conference period.
“I want to thank those who live, work in or were visiting Manchester during the conference for their patience while our policing operation was in place.
“Throughout Operation Protector, officers have worked tirelessly to protect delegates, manage protests and keep our city safe.
“I am proud of all our officers and staff. They have performed their duties to the highest of standards and behaved in a professional and fair manner throughout.”

The story behind The Protector
By Milani Photography
As with every shoot, I have a vision going into it of how I see the story unfolding in front of the camera. This shoot was no different, with a story of a water nymph and his journey.... but as I started setting up the shot, the image I had in my head began to change as I was reminded of a story I used to read to my boys when they were younger. The book "I'll Love You Forever" follows the relationship between a boy and his mother where as time passes, the roles change from that of be mother as protector, to the boy becoming a man and protecting his mother. The ending of this story never failed to bring me to tears, as I was so moved and affected by the immensity of that love and the bond between mother and child. That is the emotion and story I was hoping to convey with this picture. That of the protector and that unique relationship.
A little insight into how I shot this. The set up was in my back yard in a 6x10 kiddie pool. It was backlit with a black v-flat behind us for a backdrop, but low enough to let enough light in. I placed branches in the milky water to give a swampy feel. Jake let me paint his face to give an animalistic look. For my shot I put the camera on a tripod with a ten second timer and ran to get the shot. I then made a composite of Mother and son together. I used Lr5, Ps, for the composite, and Exposure, from Alien Skin.
Thank you for taking the time. Have a blessed day!
my favourite sculpture at UBC Museum of Anthropology -- Bill Reid's The Raven and the First Men.
With the assistance of several other artists, Reid created his massive sculpture out of a giant block of laminated yellow cedar. Depicted is a moment in the ancestral past of the Haida people when Raven, a wise and powerful yet mischievous trickster, has just found the first humans in a clam shell on the beach, and is coaxing them out of it.
The Raven and the First Men was commissioned by Walter and Marianne Koerner, and unveiled by HRH the Prince of Wales in 1980. Members of the Haida Nation were also present to celebrate the work, bringing the sand at the base of the sculpture from the beach where Raven is said to have made his discovery.
During his lifetime (1920-1998), Reid drew much from the traditions of his predecessors, including Charles Edenshaw (ca. 1839-1920), becoming internationally renowned for his extraordinary imagination and technical skill. He continues to inspire new generations of Northwest Coast artists - including Robert Davidson and Jim Hart - who are now masters in their own right.
Mandalorian Protectors In the Eu/Legends were Mandalorian super commandos founded during the galaxy-spanning Clone Wars by the ARC trooper turned "Mandalore the Resurrector," Spar. Entering the Clone Wars on the side of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the Mandalorian Protectors fought against the Galactic Republic as a hard-hitting shock force, gaining a reputation among Confederacy commanders as an in-demand unit capable of defeating foes in a single day that their legions of battle droids could not conquer in a month. However, due to the machinations of the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, who secretly manipulated both sides of the war for his own gain, the Mandalorian Protectors were led into a trap by Darth Sidious on the planet Norval II, where Republic clone troopers destroyed their army of Battle Legionnaire droids. Three soldiers—Fenn Shysa, Tobbi Dala, and the broken Mand'alor Spar—were killed.

I took a stroll in the rain today with the venerable weather-sealed Pentax K10D. I don't have a WR lens but I do have an ugly Pentax-M 50mm f2 that a little weather won't hurt. It was fun.
One of my old telephone doo-dads hanging on my woodshop walls. This is a Western Electric telephone line protector to protect the inside house wiring against lightning or high voltage surges. The telco line from the pole connected at the top to "L" for "Line", the house wiring connected to the bottoms of the red bars to "I" for "Inside" and G for Ground. This one has a patent date of Aug 11, 1914 so it's likely been around for a while. I removed this one from service in the mid 70's by replacing it with the then-current piece and didn't have the heart to throw this one away. I guess the version that I used to replace this one with is also a collector's item now.
I personally really like the Resolute Protector armor mostly because it looks like a Stormtrooper and the blue paint splashes that made it look like part of the 501st. Anyway here you go! For the helmet I suggest you paint a black line from the line above the eyes to the filter in the middle (at the bottom) and just smear blue paint along the right side of the hemet.

A tug, Protector, 235040606, sailing up the River Thames at Gravesend Reach...
I don't know if this was built by Damen Shipyard: I believe this breaks the sinister and disturbing sequence I discovered earlier and which threatened the very fundamentals. Or it may not. Or may not matter. We will never know, and if it was built by Damen it's not my fault.
Protector is now near the Millenium Pier at Millbank and all is well, even if it is raining.

I've had this lovely glass worktop protector for quite a few years. The label on the back says 'Virtually unbreakable glass'. The other evening I went to stand a bottle of wine on the glass and I clipped the edge. It quietly, slowly, shattered for at least half an hour. I think the slow shatter was because it was laying flat on the kitchen surface and it must have been glued to the picture underneath.
'That's pretty' I thought. One of our set subjects at camera club is glass. So I took this photo before I put it in the bin.

He aquí mis consejos:
Disfruta de la fuerza y belleza de tu juventud. No me hagas caso.
Aprende a entender a tus padres.
