Bohemian Switzerland - Bohemian Switzerland is the czech part of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains in northern Bohemia. The landscape of Bohemian Switzerland has for centuries fascinated geologists, sport climbers and the romantic souls of artists. Most of the nature reserve is blanketed by forest.

Skepplanda / Västra Götland / Sweden - Mossy natural forest close to Verleskogen nature reserve. The swedish foundation Naturarvet bought the Verleskogen area to protect it from logging and initiated the establishment of a nature reserve. Now a trail leads through the old growth forest with some lakes and peat bogs. The Risveden hills north of Goeteborg is home to several stands of old growth nordic forests, but logging poses a threat to this wild and ancient nature areas. naturarvet.se/

A small path meant for walking inside the Okhla Bird Sanctuary in Noida, in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. In the distance some cows can be seen. A number of people come there to take images of birds and of nature. The path is flanked by greenery on both sides, with tall grass growing in a marsh like condition and a small earthern path in the middle on which a person can walk. The river Yamuna is very close by, lapping on the edges of the sanctuary. A person can also be seen in the distance.
A man walking inside the Okhla Bird Sanctuary in Noida, in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. A number of people come there to take images of birds and of nature. For wildlife, especially for birds, it is great to have a camera with a telephoto zoom lens, such as you can see with the photographer in this photo. The camera and lens are Canon lens. The person is flanked by greenery on both sides, with tall grass growing in a marsh like condition and a small earthern path in the middle on which a person can walk. The river Yamuna is very close by, lapping on the edges of the sanctuary.
Perspective
This photo was taken at Jeremy's Run Overlook along Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park. Jeremy's Run overlook is a scenic viewpoint on the western face of the northern arm of Neighbor Mountain.
Landscape
To the left of the tree, the green mountain is the south-western arm of Neighbor Mountain. To the right of the tree, the green mountain is Knob Mountain. The faint blue mountain in the distance with multiple ridges is known as the Massanutten. Massanutten Mountain is not part of the Blue Ridge, but rather the Valley and Ridge Province of the Appalachian Highlands. Not visible, behind the tree, is a hollow formed by Jeremy's Run, separating Neighbor Mountain from Knob Mountain. A trail known as Jeremy's Run Trail passes through the stream valley, crossing the run 14 times.

The kestrel is a small, agile bird of prey known for its ability to hover while hunting. Its scientific name is Falco tinnunculus, and it is widely distributed across Europe, Asia, and Africa. Kestrels primarily feed on small mammals, insects, and birds, using their keen eyesight to spot prey from great distances. They have a distinctive reddish-brown plumage with black markings and a striking facial pattern. Unlike many raptors, kestrels are often seen in urban areas, using buildings and ledges as nesting sites. Their hovering flight, where they remain almost stationary in the air while scanning the ground below, is a unique and remarkable hunting technique.

Dedicada a mi compañero de viaje Javier Valladares por ayudarnos ha hacerlo tan ameno. Un fuerte abrazo Javier.
A last shot at Ko Hong before we move on. I was thinking that these rocks were probably from James Bond Island, but those are quite different- the pillar rock (called a 'stack' in geological terms) there has a broad top and tapers narrowly downward- just the opposite of this. We will get there shortly. (see subsequent pictures later in this album). It was quite difficult to turn on that unstable and rocking kayak to take this picture, so please excuse if it's not quite up to scratch. I am on the Ao Phang Nga National Park speedboat tour, known more popularly as the James Bond Island tour, and we have made our second halt for the day here, for a spot of kayaking through the many limestone caves at this spot. I have just endured a very unnerving transfer from my speedboat onto an incredibly unstable little rubber kayak and have just manged to find my bearings and sit down, almost on the floor of the boat, without tumbling into the Andaman Sea. We are taken through several of these low caves- these are low enough as it is, but high tide and the consequent rise in water levels made these caves even lower! Notes about the Ao Phang Nga National Park appeared earlier in this album. (see previous pictures). (Phuket, Thailand, Oct/ Nov. 2019)

Approaching the spot for kayaking in the Phang Nga Bay. Today's speed boat tour was a bit too rough and ready for my liking! I am on the speed boat tour around the Ao Phang Nga National park- this tour is known more commonly as the James Bond Islands tour, off the island of Phuket, in Thailand. We have now reached the second stop for the day, for a kayak ride on the Andaman Sea. Tourist brochures say that sea kayaking in Phang Nga Bay is an amazing experience one should not miss. After a rather precarious transfer from your speedboat onto a incredibly unsteady and rocking kayak, more of a rubber dinghy, one can, the tour brochures go on to say, discover a unique and hidden world as you weave your way through a network of brilliant crystalline limestone caves in your sturdy (sturdy? I beg t differ!) rubber kayak. Luckily, you have expert boatmen on hand to row you in and out of the caves. Hair raising as it already is, they put two pax onto a kayak, so including the boatman, there are three pax on that tiny rubber canoe! You can see some of these tiny kayaks in the distance. Flora:
The vegetation is confined to inter-dune areas around springs and at the base of large dunes. The vegetation cover is made of 13 species of perennial plants and a few individuals of Calligonum comosum and Zygophyllum album.
Fauna:
The area is especially important because it accommodates the world's only known population of the endangered Slender-horned Gazella leptoceros. The Dorcas Gazella is still found in the area in small numbers while both the Fennec Vulpes zerda and Ruppell's Sand Fox V. rueppelli are scarce. There are 11 species of reptiles, 9 species of mammals, 13 species of resident birds, and 26 migrant and vagrant birds.

I am on the Phi Phi Islands tour just off Phuket, Thailand, and we have just made our first stop of the tour at Maya Bay, which was the location where the 1999 Hollywood movie The Beach was filmed. Sadly, the sheer crowds and the consequent over tourism after the movie was released led to much damage to the coral reefs around Maya Bay and the environment, so much so that the authorities have closed the beaches on Maya Bay to tourists till 2021 at least. That does not however stop scores of tour boats disgorging large numbers of tourists here for swimming and snorkeling- so much for environmental protection. I was frankly getting a tad bored here as the stop has been longer than I had bargained for, but as you can see most boats have been calling their passengers back. But there are still a few splashing about, unconcerned about others on the boat. Sad. Detailed notes about the Phi Phi Islands National Park appeared earlier in this album. (see previous pictures). Light at the end of the tunnel- literally! We are just coming out of an incredibly low cave at Ko Hong in the Phang Nga Bay near Phuket, Thailand. We had been leaning back as it is, on our way in, but even before our return, just five minutes later, the tide had risen considerably and we had to lie down flat to be able to pass! A hong ('room' in Thai) refers to a collapsed cave system in the interior of each island in the Phang Nga Bay. These can be accessed by with inflatable kayaks like the one I am on, and only at low tide. I am on the Ao Phang Nga National Park speedboat tour, known more popularly as the James Bond Island tour, and we have made our second halt for the day here, for a spot of kayaking through these caves. I have just endured a very unnerving transfer from my speedboat onto an incredibly unstable little rubber kayak and have just manged to find my bearings and sit down, almost on the floor of the boat, without tumbling into the Andaman Sea. A chipmunk pauses on a weathered tree trunk, gazing curiously at something just out of frame. With its tiny paws and alert expression, the scene captures a fleeting moment of natural curiosity in the forest. The aged texture of the bark contrasts with the smooth fur of the chipmunk, creating a charming and detailed wildlife image. Perfect for themes involving nature, animal behavior, woodland creatures, and forest photography.
Our time on Ko Mai Pai or Bamboo Island is up and it's now time to leave. This is the first post lunch stop on the Phi Phi Islands tour and there was really nothing else to do here except grab a coffee, which I already did from a shack on the island. This is apparently a good snorkeling spot, but we had stopped for that earlier in the day elsewhere on this trip (see previous pictures earlier in this album), and being the fag end of the trip, all of us are pretty tired anyway. I decided to get a selfie next to the Ranger Station sign on Bamboo Island. A passing tourist obliged me with this picture. Notes about the Ko Mai Pai or Bamboo Island as well as detailed notes about the Phi Phi Islands National Park appeared earlier in this album. (see previous pictures).
