1 in 4 newly diagnosed cancers each year are prostate cancer cases.

It's the end of Movember and Derek did an awesome job showing off his mo' for the month. Rumour has it that it may stay for awhile. :)

Prostate cancer develops in a man’s prostate, the walnut-sized gland just below the bladder that produces some of the fluid in semen. It’s the most common cancer in men after skin cancer. Prostate cancer often grows very slowly and may not cause significant harm. But some types are more aggressive and can spread quickly without treatment.

Symtoms:

1.Frequent urination, especially at night

2.Difficulty starting or stopping urination

3.Weak or interrupted urinary stream

4.Painful or burning sensation during urination or ejaculation

.Blood in urine or semen

I had to add some vignetting to these shots in post-production as they looked too flat with the color of the physician coat almost matching too well the color on the walls. Adding the vignetting sets up a "tonal perspective" which hopefully draws the eye closer to the subject. I just made that up, but to me it makes sense.

An x-ray of the chest may be done to find out whether or not the cancer has spread to the area.

Sunday 15th October 2017. By rights I should not be here. My consultant gave me approx six months, around March!

Today, my son (Brian 41) sent me a text message informing me that he has been to have his prostate gland checked by his GP and all is well. That's a massive relief for all of the family.

About a week ago me and Julie were sitting down weeding our lock-block driveway. I was surprised that I could get that far down. But we got the job done over two days. On day three my left hip and thigh were absolutely 'stoonin' with pain and I could barely walk. A few days later we attended a concert in Glasgow. A friend of ours (Richard) drove us down and back. The concert was two and a half hours long, but I sat through it quite comfortably. Since that day the pain has dropped considerably, but I have to be really careful getting up out of seats and my initial few steps. Tomorrow, we go to my GP to see about a steppy up in my pain relief. I feel incredibly lucky to still be here and I'm cheekily looking forward to Christmas.

As from 17th October 2017, my medication includes 50mg Diclofenac Sodium three times a day.

This Movember I’ve decided to donate my face to raising awareness about cancers that affect men. My commitment is the growth of a moustache for the entire month of Movember, which I know will generate conversation, controversy and laughter.

I’m doing this because:

· 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in his lifetime

· 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime

This is a cause that I feel passionately about and I’m asking you to support my efforts by making a donation to support the great work of the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG. To help, you can either:

- Click this link us.movember.com/mospace/803582/ and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account

- Write a check payable to Movember, referencing my name or Registration Number 803582 and mailing it to: Movember, PO Box 2726, Venice, CA 90294-2726

The money raised will help make a tangible difference to the lives of others, through the world’s most promising prostate cancer research and LIVESTRONG’s programs that support young adults and their families battling and surviving cancer.

For more details on how the funds raised from previous campaigns have been used and the impact Movember is having please visit

us.movemberfoundation.com/research-and-programs/.

Thank you.
