The police presence wasn’t insanely out-of-proportion, but it did betray a complete misunderstanding of this respectful, peaceful march which included people of all ages.
Possibly the most ludicrous charity I have ever seen.
I feel sure that there are more pressing issues facing the "holy land".

Lesson on the pyramid of race hate: students activists from CT Students for a Dream conduct teach-in on racial prejudice, discrimination, violence and genocide, Connecticut Legislature: Legislative Office Building, 300 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, Connecticut, Thursday, March 16, 2017.
Week of Student Action: Demand equal access to student-generated, institutional aid for undocumented students:
Many undocumented immigrant students cannot afford to go to college and pursue their dreams.
In Connecticut, public colleges and universities set aside a proportion of tuition revenue to be used as ‘institutional aid’ to assist students with a demonstrated financial need. However, immigrant students who have grown up in CT and have graduated high school here are not eligible for this student-generated aid. All Connecticut students, including undocumented students, pay tuition and therefore contribute towards this institutional aid pool of funds. Yet Connecticut does not allow immigrant students access to institutional aid themselves. This aid is student funded, we believe all students who pay tuition should be be eligible to receive it.
Each year, undocumented immigrant students graduate from our high schools with dreams of college attendance - dreams that are dashed due to financial obstacles.
But it doesn’t have to be this way, our legislators have the power to equalize access to this student-generated, institutional aid all CT in-state resident students, and end the "all pay no aid" system for immigrant students.
The time is now for Connecticut to pass legislation that equalizes access to student generated funds for all students regardless of immigration status.
Now, more than ever, it is crucial for Connecticut to uphold the values of equality for all its residents, and for CTto support the dreams of all its students.
From: actionnetwork.org/petitions/demand-equal-access-to-studen...
To: The Connecticut State Legislature
From: [Your Name]
We, the undersigned, appeal to the Connecticut State Legislature to vote on and pass HB7000: AN ACT EQUALIZING ACCESS TO STUDENT GENERATED FINANCIAL AID and SB17: AN ACT ASSISTING STUDENTS WITHOUT LEGAL IMMIGRATION STATUS WITH THE COST OF COLLEGE.
This bill would equalize access to student-generated, institutional financial aid at Connecticut’s public universities and colleges to all in-state Connecticut resident students regardless of immigration status. Passage of this bill would uphold the legislature's stated goal of education equity and be a significant move towards strengthening our state’s economic future.
A portion of the tuition dollars every student pays to attend Connecticut’s public institutions is set aside as institutional financial aid. Undocumented immigrant students’ tuition helps fund institutional financial aid, however undocumented students cannot access the institutional aid they are helping to fund. This legislation would equalize access to the student-generated, institutional aid to all in-state students.

Way, way back in the mid 1970s when I was a student in the School of Journalism at Ohio University, we used these things to tell the composing room and the press room what size the hard copy photos we were sending them should be when they were put on the page. Knowing what I know about journalists today, I wonder what would have happened if the instructor had told them that instead of using a proportion wheel, we were about to use a circular slide rule that uses a logarithmic scale to do our math for us. I would guess that half of them would run from the room screaming in terror.
St Andrew's church at Owston strikes one at first sight as an oddly proportioned building, a single vessel with north aisle and tower and spire on the north side acting as a porch. It looks truncated as if something is missing, it turns out it is, though exactly what is more difficult to say.
Prior to the Dissolution this was the site of Owston Abbey, but it was one of the poorest of Augustinian monastic houses with little more than ten inhabitants for most of its history. The present parish church is believed to be the chancel of the monastic church, but how much is missing and what form it took are far from clear, presumably a nave lay to the west but the topography and the fact that old engravings show a gatehouse near to this position make the situation somewhat confusing.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Owston_Abbey
Inside the church feels too ambitious in scale for its short length, but it remains a simple, rather raw building. The interior is roughly square, divided into 'nave' and north aisle by a two-bay arcade. An early 14th century tomb recess remains in the north wall but there's not a lot else to see beyond marvelling at the strangeness of the space.
I am unsure what normal opening arrangements are here, as this was Heritage weekend it may normally be kept locked outside of services.

The Fibonacci Numbers are closely related to the golden ratio, and thus they also play a prominent role in exalted natural and artistic compositions!
I'm working on a far deeper book titled The Golden Ratio Number for Photographers. :)
The famous mathematician Jacob Bernoulli wrote:
The (golden spiral) may be used as a symbol, either of fortitude and constancy in adversity, or of the human body, which after all its changes, even after death, will be restored to its exact and perfect self.
Engraved upon Jacob’s tombstone is a spiral alongside the words, "Eadem Mutata Resurgo," meaning "Though changed, I shall rise again." And so it is that within the Golden Ratio Principle, the golden harmonies rise yet again.
The golden ratio is oft known as the divine cut, the golden cut, the divine proportion, the golden number, and PHI for the name of the architect of the Parthenon Phidias. It has exalted classical art on down through the millennia and it can exalt your art too!
Ask me anything about the golden ratio! :) I will do my best to answer!!
Enjoy my Fine Art Ballet instagram too!
Dr. Elliot McGucken's Golden Ratio Principle: The Golden Number Ratio Principle: Dr. E’s Golden Ratio Principle: The golden ratio exalts beauty because the number is a characteristic of the mathematically and physically most efficient manners of growth and distribution, on both evolutionary and purely physical levels. The golden ratio ensures that the proportions and structure of that which came before provide the proportions and structure of that which comes after. Robust, ordered growth is naturally associated with health and beauty, and thus we evolved to perceive the golden ratio harmonies as inherently beautiful, as we saw and felt their presence in all vital growth and life—in the salient features and proportions of humans and nature alike, from the distribution of our facial features and bones to the arrangements of petals, leaves, and sunflowers seeds. As ratios between Fibonacci Numbers offer the closest whole-number approximations to the golden ratio, and as seeds, cells, leaves, bones, and other physical entities appear in whole numbers, the Fibonacci Numbers oft appear in nature’s elements as “growth’s numbers.” From the dawn of time, humanity sought to salute their gods in art and temples exalting the same proportion by which all their vital sustenance and they themselves had been created—the golden ratio. the golden number, rectangle, and spiral!
Haiti is a Caribbean country. It occupies the western, smaller portion of the island of Hispaniola, in the Greater Antillean archipelago, which it shares with the Dominican Republic. Ayiti (land of high mountains) was the indigenous Taíno or Amerindian name for the island. The total area of Haiti is 27,750 square kilometres (10,714 sq mi) and its capital is Port-au-Prince. Haitian Creole and French are the official languages.
Labadee (also Labadie) is a port located on the northern coast of Haiti. It is a private resort leased to Royal Caribbean International until 2050. Royal Caribbean International has contributed the largest proportion of tourist revenue to Haiti since 1986, employing 300 locals, allowing another 200 to sell their wares on the premises for a fee, and paying the Haitian government US$6 per tourist.

St Mary, Lindsell, Essex
A fair proportion of my favourite Essex churches are in the area north of the A120 between Dunmow and Haverhill. Some of them are well known - Thaxted of course, and there are the likes of Great and Little Sampford, Finchingfield, Little Bardfield and Wethersfield. I suppose that Lindsell and Stebbing are not so well known, but if I could take twenty Essex churches to a desert Island, then these two would be among them.
Lindsell is a scattered parish without a real village centre. St Mary's church is hidden from the road, set back behind the stable block of the Hall. You would not know it was there if you did not think to look for it. A small church, and most curiously appointed, with a slim tower in the south-west corner. and the square Norman nave augmented by a tiny south aisle and a wide yet shallow chancel to the east. The Norman chancel arch and its counterpoint to the south are delights, and the chancel also contains an access window to a former anchorite cell on the north side. The east window contains medieval and continental glass. But this is the bare sum of it, and St Mary is greater than the sum of its parts, an enticing, enfolding atmosphere that has me cycling this way again and again.
Not far off on the other side of the Dunmow to Haverhill road is the much larger village of Stebbing, a delightful mile or so of high street that leads you to a sharp bend just before leaving the village, and here is St Mary. Stebbing is one of my favourite villages in Essex, and such a setting for such a church!
A huge, endearing, ramshackle giant of a church, like an eccentric maiden aunt. It always seems to be open, and is always cluttered up with what ever various village and youth groups were in the middle of doing, and I love it for that. It always feels lived in and loved. A new acquisition since my last visit is a pair of large leather sofas, either side of the wide chancel.
1) This image represents proportion as the grass plant in the front is being compared to the buildings in the back, which look to be the same size even through they can't be.
2) I think the most visually striking part of the image is the contrast between the foreground and the background; the focus of the fence compared to the blurriness of the background creates a different feel than if it were just the buildings or just the grass.

Biographer John Robert Greene came to the Plaza Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on June 19, 2013 as part of the Beyond the Gowns: First Ladies program series. He spoke about the life of Betty Ford, whose impact on American life is far out of proportion to the mere two and a half years she spent in the White House.
Africa has the world’s largest proportion of poor and hungry people, but the lowest rate of coverage by social protection programs. Demand for social protection is growing in Africa, reflecting faster economic growth, rapid urbanization, and more open and pluralistic societies. In the 2014 Malabo Declaration, African leaders called for integrating social protection with measures to increase agricultural productivity to help achieve the goal of ending hunger by 2025.
The 2017–2018 Annual Trends and Outlook Report: Boosting Growth to End Hunger by 2025—The Role of Social Protection takes an in-depth look at the state of social protection in Africa. Seminar speakers will discuss findings and recommendations on successful implementation, filling knowledge gaps, and policy implications for the design and roll-out of social protection programs in Africa.
The report is produced by the Regional Strategic Analysis and Knowledge Support System, a program that provides data and analyses to inform the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP). ReSaKSS is supported by United States Agency for International Development and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
