The Guma Lagoon is part of the vast Okavango Delta wetland. The delta is a huge triangle measuring 250 x 150 km. Yet it does not flow into any sea or ocean. It mostly simply evaporates into the hot Kalahari Desert of northern Botswana along a fault line. From a Fujichrome slide taken in 2005.

Amsterdam's property taxes used to be based on the width of the frontage, so many houses were built tall, thin and deep. The area is very marshy, so there are no really tall buildings, not even modern office blocks, at least, not that I saw - maybe further inland. Subsidence over the centuries means that many buildings are now somewhat askew.
The canals are about 3m (10ft) deep. We were told that they contain 1m depth of mud, 1m of discarded bicycles and 1m of water.

The Columbia County Courthouse, built in 1905, is an historic courthouse building located at 173 NE Hernando Avenue in Lake City, Florida. It was designed by architect Frank Pierce Milburn in the Classical Revival style of architecture. It was built with a dome and cupola, which were removed before 1989, but were restored in 2003 during a major renovation and expansion of the courthouse. In 1989, the Columbia County Courthouse was listed in A Guide to Florida's Historic Architecture, published by the University of Florida Press.
The Columbia County Courthouse is a contributing property in the Lake City Historic Commercial District.

At long last, made it to this infamous location on the NC500 route with that red roof - simply a matter of driving around the road far enough, something I've never done before. I would like to think that the owner of this property is having a bit of a laugh at all the tourists wanting its photograph and he has attached a ladder to the roof!

It's a bit drafty and the mosquitoes are bad during the summer but the view is breathtaking. There were many interesting things to photograph on this property just North of Elk Island National Park.
Long-tailed Macaque (Macaca fascicularis), is also known as the crab-eating Macaque.
When we came across this macaque, she already had the orange peel. Probably discarded by someone treking the trail. Even though it was only the peel, she became overly possesive about keeping it. She was quite worried that I would steal it from her. She still was carrying it around 30 minutes later.

I managed to take a quick walk on the golf course today while it was still sunny. Later it clouded up and started to rain. I don't play golf and have no intention to ever do it but I like the golf course because I think it's beautiful. The sign basically says that the place is private property (as it belongs to the local golf club) but that you are allowed to use the public paths which lead across the golf couse, as long as you don't step on the fairway and keep your dog on lead. It also says that if you cross the golf course you do it at your own risk, which means that if you are hit by a golf ball it's your own fault and not theirs. :)
Does anyone else get cold in the winter indoors? I'm on a drive to use my heating as little as possible this year. Part costs, part just being more efficient for the planet. I'm totally in love with wearing long skirts, layers, cosy roll neck jumpers and scarves. Staying warm and toasty here! Of course I use the heating on some days, but the thermal properties of a well put together woman's outfit are WAY better than the men's equivalent. I think we can solve the climate crisis if everyone wore a long skirt! ;)
This dress is not mine. It's my girlfriends and it's such a nice Christmas dress, isn't it? A nice weighty number. She has another massive bag of clothing for me soon from friends who are clearing out their wardrobes. Hopefully a new shoot from me soon!
One reason I'm smiling is the big painting behind me here has finally sold and the one to my right is in a gallery. I also just painted one of my favourites too, so on a creative high.

Back in the day, Woody Guthrie wrote some banger songs about building dams and other bigs projects, which seems odd today since he was communist adjacent. If he were alive now, I'm not sure what he'd be singing about. Would he even have an audience?
After reading the the text on Rossina's latest photo.
I noticed the tag: rosie hardy plagiarism on her photo.
This lead me to this site exposing Rosie Hardy (not RossinaBossioB) of copying other artists work. the jurry is still out on that subject
However all that got me thinking about plagiarism and intellectual property. If you want to know my views on the subject read this post on the flickr discussion about this issue. AKA "Hardygate"
As for my own work I do use a lot of textures and free photos I find on the internet. Its part of my workflow and methodology in creating my imagery. Its important that the collective knowledge on the internet is present in my work. I see it like the modern day collage. I don't clip from magazines, but rather from digital photos floating in cyberspace.
Sometimes I forget to link/credit the original texture on flickr, but I often don't remember where I got it from. I have hundreds of texture files on my computer that I have been collecting for years.
So I felt its time to give more back more to the community that has supported me. From now on I will post more free textures. If you remember or wish, link them back. I would love to see how you use them. Just don't sell my textures, or use them for commercial purposes. I don't consider personal artwork as commercial so you can sell your work if you use my textures.
Barrington Court is a Tudor manor house begun c. 1538 and completed in the late 1550s, with a vernacular seventeenth-century stable court (1675), situated in Barrington, near Ilminster, Somerset, England. It was the first house acquired by the National Trust, in 1907, on the recommendation of the antiquarian Canon Hardwicke Rawnsley.
Barrington Court, once dated 1514 and considered an early example of a symmetrical front, was completed in the late 1550s for William Clifton, a London merchant who had been assembling a Somerset estate. Its central entry porch leads into a screens passage with the Hall on the left and, an innovation, a service passage leading to the kitchen wing that occupies the right wing. A symmetrically sited gatehouse (rebuilt) was set far forward of the house, to permit a full view of its symmetrical facade.
The interior of the house suffered from its demotion to a tenant farm, and from a fire in the early nineteenth century; after being almost derelict it was repaired under the supervision of Alfred Hoare Powell. Barrington Court was acquired by the National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or Natural Beauty in 1907 and was leased to Col. Lyle of Tate & Lyle in the 1920s. He and his wife turned the house around and refurbished the court house and renovated Strode House (built by William Strode in the 1600s) which was originally a stable and coach block. It was at this time that the Lyles contracted Gertrude Jekyll to design the three formal gardens on the property that are kept in beautiful condition by the head gardener.

Every time I visit I see something different - I am very lucky to capture some Raptors - these all pretty much happen by accident. One was scared off by a dog that was walking up behind me and I caught him in flight. The one perched is actually looking at the dog coming his way. Caught underside of an owl - I think great horned or burrowing owl flying over head.
