If you are going to Rosslyn Chapel I hope that you have a great visit and if you have a chance do walk in the Roslin Glen. The Castle and the Chapel retain the older name of Rosslyn and the contemporary village has the newer name of Roslin.
If you are on the Western Bank of The North Esk river you can visit The Wallace Cave. There are several Wallace Caves in Scotland. There is only one Wallace Cave in Roslin Glen. There are also caves under Hawthronden Castle.
There is a legend of a Black Hen, don’t say Pullet, that is noted as confusing treasure seekers and grail hunters by digging holes to false terrain the site and to fill in half dug holes for when seekers return to complete their excavations and further still through special skill to carefully indicate the better and best grounds to explore through careful talon and beak soil manipulation. There are further tails of either this Black Hen, or of another such similar still don’t say Pullet, Black Hen, maybe there is just the one, or possibly there are a pair of magical soil shrouders at work? The other hen story relates to a treasure hidden under a stair. The exact stair can be correctly deduced in a manner not fully revealed within the story. Any stair testing and excavating can and will lead to the Black Hen II, this time the truth will not out*, moving the treasure when the excavators are in the right area and also the hen will bamboozle the grail hunters with special Holy Hen Acts that will confuse, strain, enrage and bring chaos to order and the ‘BH II’ wonder guard will clear up after the said chaos and restore all to proper order til the right, maybe even righteous, approach of the mythic legendary treasure grail hunter seekers who are destined to step on the right step at the right time in the right manner possibly with the left foot.
Please only read good humour and faithful following in my words above. I have followed signs to Rosslyn Chapel and parked when there were just a few spaces next to the old barn and byre. I have wandered in the beauty of the landscape and listened to the stories and here share some quickly to say that this is a place of beauty and of mystery, both of folly and of faith with a river bend bringing out rock inscribed from thousands of years ago to natural and extended caves, with castles and chapels, formerly and currently hosting services and battles til a part of the past seems to have been deeply woven here such that we choose to look at it again and again making pilgrimage and enacting rampage all engaged through marvellous mysteries and eldritch histories far beyond our fascination and into our fine fashioned fulgent fabricated fantasies.**
*Black Hen I also assured that the truth would not out, Black Hen II is not a fully fledged sequel as of course it could be one Hen, not a Pullet, successfully stealth working both grounds and stairs.
**Please do not test the Hen, or Hens, not Pullets, as you could be destroying a beautiful and historial protected place that is best left none Hen tested and none destroyed. Age, atmosphere and our antecedents have done more than enough destruction and also they had with them those that fought to give enough preservation and conservation too.

This bull buffalo stopped grazing, looked up and turned his head towards the light for only a brief moment, but long enough for me to get this shot.

Vernazza is the next to northernmost town and perhaps most picturesque of the five towns of Cinque Terre in Italy. Colorful, antique homes cling to impossible cliffs. A lovely small harbor nestles under the shadows of an ancient castle and a dramatic seaside church.
Understand
Vernazza has the only proper harbor in the Cinque Terre and is a charming, small fishing village. Vernazza was founded about 1000 A.D. and was ruled by the Republic of Genoa starting in 1276. Vernazza's medieval castle, Belforte, was built in the mid-1500's, primarily to protect the village from pirates.
Vernazza's historic wealth is evidenced by the elegant style of its houses and streets, which are decorated with tower forms, open galleries, refined arcades and elaborate doorways. The Village is surrounded by very steeply-terraced Olive groves which are said to produce among the finest Olive oil in the country.
Vernazza is a quaint, tiny place, with a population of about 1,000. The entire Cinque Terre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Since the train and Rick Steves have brought droves of tourists to the Cinque Terre, most business owners speak enough English to satisfy the typical visitor. A woman may come out of her house in the evening to ask if you need a room for the night. Be cautious as the only English word she may know is "room." She may also ask if you need a "zimmer" (room in German)" The language barrier is not a problem for Vernazzans even if they don't speak English. Play along and it won't be a problem for you either.

With the circuit starting at Crewe, anything can crop up on the G94/D95/K97 DRS-operated circuit, and today it was a pair of Large Logo lovelies, 37424 and 37402, the lead loco reportedly needing a test run. They had DB 66135 for company, and I saw them at Arleston working the 6D95 Bescot UES to Toton North Yard, today a short consist of 5x 'Salmon' track panel flats. Thanks to the driver for the tone and growlage!

I've been itching for a while, especially since Babalas posted his own, to build a simple prop-job civil aircraft.
This is my first attempt at a minifig-scale aircraft, and I'm pretty pleased. I don't really have a name for it, but used some photos of the Cessna 180 as reference for a few details. On the whole, though, I mostly went my own way with the project. It should end up in AFOLOKC's display in December.
There's a couple pieces I need to replace for proper coloring, but thought it good enough for a couple pictures, at least.
The Mercury transit is underway! Here's my first result, from a Canon EOS 70D and 70-300mm lens (480mm equivalent). Mercury is the small dark spot near the bottom, the dark spot towards the top is massive sunspot!

This image, like the Venus transit ones, really highlights how most solar system models used in classrooms are "not to scale". The sun is massive compared to the planets!
Note: Don't look at or photograph the sun without proper eye protection and a solar filter to protect the camera sensor!
International Drive, commonly known as I-Drive, is a major 11.1-mile (17.9 km) thoroughfare in Orlando, Florida, United States, and is the city's main tourist strip. I-Drive is located several miles southwest of proper Downtown Orlando in the southernmost limits of the city. The International Drive area serves a similar purpose to that of the Las Vegas Strip in Las Vegas as the core of the tourism area.
International Drive stretches approximately 11.1 miles, with the northern part extending into the southernmost city limits of Orlando and the remainder of the central and southern portion located in unincorporated Orange County. An additional extension which does not directly intersect with the main section of International Drive is known as International Drive South, partly located in the northern portion of Osceola County. Surrounding cross-roads include Sand Lake Road, Kirkman Road, SR 536, and Universal Boulevard, which runs parallel to the midsection of International Drive.
I-Drive has four lanes, two in each direction, from its north end at Oak Ridge Road to Pointe Plaza Dr. (former Universal Blvd. south end; see below), and again between the northern and southern intersections with Westwood Blvd. It has six lanes, three in each direction, from Pointe Plaza Dr. to the Beachline Expressway (the eastbound ramps to the Beachline tie into the northern intersection with Westwood Blvd.), and again from the southern intersection with Westwood Blvd. to its end at SR 536. The entirety of International Drive South, from SR 535 to US 192, is entirely six lanes. The section of I-Drive from Universal Blvd. to Sand Lake Road has no median or center turn lane, and frequently has heavy traffic and gridlock in the evenings in the tourism corridor, affecting Carrier Dr. and Sand Lake Road.
The International Drive area is home to the wax museum Madame Tussauds, the Orange County Convention Center complex, the Pointe Orlando entertainment complex, major hotels, SeaWorld Orlando, Aquatica (SeaWorld's water park), Fun Spot America amusement park, the ICON Orlando Ferris wheel, the world's tallest StarFlyer (opened June 1, 2018), the world's tallest Slingshot, the World's Largest Entertainment McDonald's, CoCo Key Hotel & Water Resort, the I-Drive 360 entertainment complex, museums, themed restaurants, bars, outlet malls, mini golf courses like Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf and other tourism-related commercial properties and tourist attractions such as Air Florida Helicopter Inc, Wonder Works and The Magical Midway. The major theme park resort Universal Orlando is also located in the area. Wet n' Wild was a water park formerly located on International Drive, considered to be America's first water park until it closed on December 31, 2016 to make way for Universal's Volcano Bay, which opened on May 25, 2017.

I got this Praktina IIA a couple of months ago, but it came with a Biotar lens that belongs on an FX and doesn't couple to the IIA's auto diaphragm system. This is an early series IIA, made before they added the second diaphragm actuation linkage to work with the older semi-auto lenses.
Now I have a correct lens for it, and it's much happier. Still have to service the shutter, but all in good time....
It's always nice to see a railroad taking pride in their facility and putting up some nice signage, and the KCS locomotive shop at Deramus Yard has to be one of the best examples. Not a whole lot of power sitting around this Friday, as a solo Gevo suns under an image of one of its siblings.
Ok, after posting that last decidedly uninspiring photo of a 'freight' train at Hurricane let's share what is arguably my best catch ever from my secret camp spot and overlook.
While not a revenue freight train, the company work train always puts on a good show usually rating classic original, built new, home road GP40-2s for power and trailing any combination of a string of ballast hoppers, side dumps, gons, flats, the depressed center car with a piece of heavy equipment or more...and always punctuated by one of the Alaska Railroad's three remaining cabooses.
On this spectacular fall day it dawned clear and colorful as Frank and John and I awoke in Talkeetna and after a (nearly to!) leisurely breakfast we made the hour drive up the Parks Hwy to the trailhead and hiked in the mile. When we heard them blowing for the crossing while still trekking in it became a mad dash through the woods, and Frank damn near barrell rolled in through the brush just as engineer Gordon Larson inched slowly out over the Gulch in charge of train 591W with four matching geeps (3010, 3005, 3002, 3004) punctuated on the end by ARR 1092, an ex CN wide vision van!
Located at MP 284.2, this bridge spans 918 ft and rises 296 ft above the floor below. This famous arch is arguable the signature location the on the entire ARR mainline and was the most expensive and difficult engineering project on the entirety of the railroad. The American Bridge Company started construction in early 1921, erected steel in June and finished in August. To construct the bridge, they strung an aerial tram across the gulch and construction proceeded from both sides. The first passenger train crossed Hurricane Gulch Bridge on August 15, 1921 culminating the $1,200,000 project. Maryland Midland train UBTT was heading for the propane facility in Taneytown with the pair of GP38-3s and two spacer cars under a building thunderstorm in 2015.
This trackage is the former Pennsylvania Railroad Frederick Secondary that once linked York with, yup, Frederick.
Maryland Midland's "Heritage" unit, the MMID Pride 2060 was showing off the classic pre-G&W colors.
Fruit Gum's tunnel shot was one of my favourites last year and I chose it for a tribute before, but had to copy *Madonna* and make my own tunnel. I've been searching for a proper tunnel since then and found one at Portmeirion. First a rainbow, then a tunnel :-)

he Small Magellanic cloud is a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way, it is thought to be about 200,000 light-years from the Sun, and about 75,000 light-years from the Large Magellanic cloud, that's pretty close by galactic Standards, The Small Magellanic cloud is clasified as an irregular dwarf galaxy, careful observations of the proper motions of it's stars show that it is stretched out along the line of sight, probably due to gravitational interactions with the Milky Way and the Large Magellanic cloud. The Small Magellanic cloud is an important object in astronomical history, it was by measuring the brightness of stars in this galaxy from
photographic plates that Henrietta Leavitt discovered the period-luminosity relation of Cepheid variables.
To the right of the Small Magellanic cloud you will see the second brightest globular cluster in the sky 47 Tucanae, when you look at 47 Tucanae what you are seeing is the light of one million stars packed into a volume of space just 120 light-years across, that makes the heart of 47 Tucanae a very crowded place indeed! 47 Tucanae is thought to be around 16,000 light-years away from the Sun, so as you can see it is completely unrelated to the Small Magellanic cloud and just happens to occupy the same area of sky as the much more distant dwarf galaxy.
The image is the result of another collaboration between Astrophotographers Jonathan Green and Amit Kamble, Jonathan captured the image data and Amit processed the image in
PixInsight.
The image is made up from 23 x 1 minute exposures captured with a Canon 60da at ISO1250 through a Canon 200 mm lens set at f/3.2, 21 dark frames were subtracted for calibration and the stars were tracked using a iOptron sky Guider mount.

El dia 26 de juliol la 33 Brigada republicana captura el cementiri de Vilalba dels Arcs, situant-se per tant just al est de la vila. Però la vall de Lo Camà de Xivell, que els separa del nucli urbà , es molt facil de defensar des de una fortalesa natural com és Vilalba, sobretot des del est.
Des del 27 fins el 31 de juliol. els republicans intentaran conquerir Vilalba, arribant pel que sembla a les primeres cases del poble, però sent refusats. De fet, el 31 mateix abandonen el cementiri, ja que està massa exposat al foc enemic. Aixà acaben els combats en aquest sector de la batalla.
La batalla de l'Ebre (25 juliol - 16 novembre de 1938) fou la més important i mortifera de la guerra civil espanyola. Hi ha que també la consideren també la més decisiva, però crec que per desgracia la guerra ja estava decidida de molt abans, com a minim des del trencament del front d'Aragó el 9 de març del mateix any.
Tot i que l'exèrcit republicà creuà l'Ebre el 25 de juliol del 1938 per molts punts entre Mequinensa i Amposta, la major part dels combats de la batalla es donaren a la Terra Alta, a la zona entre Vilalba dels Arcs, La Fatarella, Camposines i Gandesa, a més de la Serra de Pandols.

This is part of the Ebro battlefield (1938), in Southern Catalonia.
Vilaba dels Arcs seen from the republican front around the cemetery. Part of the village was bombed and burnt in the fight.
On July 26, the 33rd Republican Brigade captured the cemetery of Vilalba dels Arcs, thus being located just east of the town. But the valley which separates them from the village is very easy to defend from a natural fortress such as Vilalba, especially from the east.
From the 27th to the 31st of July. the republicans will try to conquer Vilalba, arriving apparently at the first houses of the village, but being rejected. In fact, on the 31st they leave the cemetery itself, as it is too exposed to enemy fire. Thus ends the fighting in this sector of the battle.
The Battle of the Ebro (July 25 - November 16, 1938) was the most important and deadlier of the Spanish Civil War. There are those who also consider it the most decisive, but I think that unfortunately the war was already decided long before, at least since the breaking of the front of Aragon on March 9 of the same year.
The battle began with the greatest offensive made by the Republican forces, when they crossed the river Ebro between Mequinensa and Amposta (especially between Riba-roja and Miravet), and advanced to the line La Pobla de Massaluca -Vilalba dels Arcs -Gandesa - Serra de Pandols . But in just 48 hours, the dazzling advance was stopped short. Then Franco decided to crush the republican forces hill by hill (with massive artillery and bomber barrages), in a battle of attrition identical to the First World War for which the Republicans had no resources or alternative, especially with the river behind them. The main assaults, which lasted from August 10 to October 29, were concentrated in a very small and devastated area: the triangle Vertex Gaeta - Corbera - Camposines.
Finally, a final offensive on October 30 occupied the ridge of the Serra de Cavalls, making the entire Republican bridgehead unsustainable, which managed, however, to withdraw in an orderly manner until November 16. But the damage was already done, and there were no forces left for a proper defense of Catalonia, which fell three months later. Then, fascist darkness.

This shows the proper placement position for putting your cleaned lens back in the camera. One side has flat edges and this goes forward. You might be able to recognize this side from the wavy washer imprints it might still possess. The side with a bevelled edge is the side that points back toward the film.
Some people have reported interesting results by reversing the lens. If you want your Brownie Hawkeye to perform in the normal manner, put it back like it came apart. But, if you have a spare Brownie Hawkeye, you might want to experiment with it and reverse the lens direction for some cool effects. Pictures that I've seen taken with the lens reversed produce an image where there is a "sweet spot" of good focus in the middle of the photograph with lots of blurriness around the edges. For certain subjects, it's a very interesting effect!

A worthy consolation prize for some Shed bowlage earlier in the morning... DCR Class 56s nos. 56103 and 56301 are seen powering out of Derby, working 4L92 the 11:08 Chaddesden to King's Lynn sand train empties.
There really is nothing that compares with the sight and sound of a 56 at full power, except for two 56s at full power!
