Making a proper mess this afternoon!
This is acrylic paint blobbed onto a stretched piece of latex over the sub on my PC speakers. Superfreak by Rick James provided the soundtrack. When the bass kicks really hard the paint literally goes everywhere!
I now need a new carpet or to lay some laminate for future explosions!
2 x YN560IV left and right of paint. Both fired @ 1/128 and 24mm with diffuser attached.

I didn't think Nebraska Central still had unpainted units after all these years, but indeed they do. Luckily I had the proper leader as the local on the Albion Branch heads east traveling back to Columbus.
Any visit here usually finds something of interest going on.

This year the Providence and Worcester Railroad continued to provide their passenger train and crew for the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council's extremely popular Polar Express trains with trains running and 3:30 and 6:30 PM Fri-Sun for a total of 42 sold out trips in 2024.
The train consist is deadheading south from Worcester to begin the final weekend of performances with B39-8E 3910 (GE blt. Dec. 1987 as LMX 8534) amidst a winter wonderland scene of the first significant snow of the year. They crossing in Blackstone River near MP 17.9 on the historic original Providence and Worcester mainline just north of the Rhode Island state line. This is the 10th of 14 crossings of the Blackstone along the 43 mile line when traveling south from Worcester to Providence.
As I've told you before in previous posts the P&W is my hometown road and it is inextricably linked to the river it follows both historically and physically. The Blackstone River courses 48 miles from its headwaters near Worcester (at the confluence of the Middle River and Mill Brook) to where it flows into the Seekonk River at the headwaters of Narragansett Bay. The river drains a watershed of 640 square miles and more importantly drops 450 feet in the 48 miles. It is that drop, that made this river a pivotal point in American History.
From ririvers.org: A series of steep drops along the length of the Blackstone River provided ideal conditions for the development of water powered industry. Samuel Slater arrived in America in 1790, with managerial experience and technical knowledge of textile manufacturing in England. With the assistance of local merchants and artisans, he helped establish the first successful water-powered textile mill in America. Slater Mill was established on the Blackstone River, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. This achievement is credited with spawning the birth of America's industrial revolution. Development of the Slater textile mill catalyzed the development of water-driven technology throughout the length of the Blackstone River. By 1914 water-powered mills occupied all of the readily available dam sites in the Valley.
As the birthplace of industrial America, the need for transportation quickly arose in the valley, and between 1825 and 1828 the Blackstone Canal was constructed. The canal lasted only 20 years having been rendered obsolete by the opening of the Providence and Worcester Railroad in 1847. The railroad has proven to be a more durable method of transportation and 175 years after its opening here it is still serving the purpose for which it was built.

Tarifa is a Spanish municipality in the province of Cádiz, Andalusia. Located at the southernmost end of the Iberian Peninsula, it is primarily known as one of the world's most popular destinations for windsports. Tarifa lies on the Costa de la Luz ("coast of light") and across the Strait of Gibraltar facing Morocco.
Besides the city proper, the municipality also comprises several villages, including Tahivilla, Facinas, and Bolonia.
It was thought that Tarifa was once the site of the Roman settlement of Julia Transducta (also known as Julia Joza, or just Transducta). However, that settlement is now thought to have been where Algeciras now stands, while there is strong evidence that Casas de Porro, Valdevaqueros (Tarifa) was the site of the settlement of Mellaria. Tarifa was given its present name after the attack of Tarif ibn Malik in 710, a Berber military commander of Musa bin Nusayr. The village of Bolonia near Tarifa was also populated in Roman times (called Baelo Claudia). Roman ruins still exist near the village today.
After the Islamic conquest of southern Spain, the city was fortified starting from the 10th century. Later Tarifa was held by the taifa of Algeciras (1031) and by that of Seville (1057), and subsequently by the Almoravids. After the latter's fall, it lived a short period under another taifa of Algeciras (1231), until becoming part of the Kingdom of Granada. In 1292 it was conquered by Sancho IV of Castile, and two years later it resisted a siege by North African Islamic troops. The town resisted another siege in 1340 from Marinid, eventually leading to the Battle of Río Salado.
Despite its formidable defenses, Tarifa remained sparsely populated for the rest of the middle ages. The destruction of Algeciras after the 1369 Nasrid conquest turned Tarifa into the sole power base for the Castilian navy in the Strait area, and the influence of the Admiralcy of Castile increased thereafter. Tarifa enjoyed a great deal of privileges confirmed by the Castilian monarchs, while being simultaneously threatened by Muslim raids that resulted into frequent killings and kidnappings.
Owing to its largely military function after 1292, military activity weighted heavily in the place's social structure in the early 15th century. The town was donated to Fadrique Enríquez, Admiral of Castile, in 1447. The seigneuralization was fiercely opposed by the inhabitants. Occupied by Gonzalo de Saavedra, Tarifa returned to the nominal status of realengo [es], while largely controlled by the former. The mid-century 15th-century saw the fostering of positive collaboration with the Portuguese across the strait.
After 1492, Tarifa lost part of its military value. Owing to its good pastures, husbandry played a notable role in the economy. It however lacked land dedicated to cereal crops. Already since the conquest and increasingly in the late middle ages, fishing activity provided riches to Tarifa, and an industry of the almadraba around tuna had developed in the early 16th century. In the early 16th century, the city became part of the seigneurial land of the Adelantado Mayor de Andalucía. Population increased in the 16th century, with around 3,500–4,000 inhabitants by 1587.
In 1514 it became the seat of a marquisate (Marquiss of Tarifa), including also Bornos, Espera and Alcalá de los Gazules.
In the course of the Peninsular War, Tarifa was besieged by French troops on 20 December 1810, and again on 18 December 1811. In both of these cases the town was defended by British troops from Gibraltar as the Spanish and British were allies against the French. During the 1811–12 Siege of Tarifa there were 3,000 defending troops with 1,200 of those British, including Colonel Charles Holloway who as commanding Royal Engineer made improvements to Tarifa's defences.
On 19 December the town was attacked again by General Laval, who bombarded the town over Christmas to the point where surrender was demanded on 30 December. Both the British and Spanish commanders refused to comply and their defiance was rewarded by rain that started the next day. By 5 January the attacking force realised that their powder was wet and their guns were bogged down in mud, and retreated.

Sponges do not have nervous, digestive or circulatory systems.
That wall of course was the first I saw, so literally attractive and eye-catching.

A beautiful shop, where they sold olive soaps, fragrant herbs, delicious honeys, olive oils and ... aahh, yes, sponges!
Came home with lots of Mediterranean herbs and Saffron!
I composed it so that there was nothing else, not easy, it was jam-packed!
I was in my element.

After hours of sitting in Selkirk Yard, Q253 throttles out of the yard here at Gamefarm Road on the Selkirk Branch with now another former SCL SD40-2 leading as an add-on from the yard. Two empty oil trains ahead of the autorack train had gotten gevo add-ons, but thankfully that was not the case here.
First proper outing with my full spectrum Nex 6, and what a lovely weekend for a spot of IR photography, lots of sunshine and some great countryside around Herefordshire.

I'd written off this lens for IR work thinking it had unusably bad edges and corners, but with the acquisition of a high quality filter and less pixel peeping I think it's actually ok.

Seen at the 46th Annual Spring Gathering, London Bus Museum, Brooklands.
One of the trial buses to be fitted with Hanover's new high-resolution screen went to the show and the added flexibility allowed the shuttle 462 service to be programmed on the display. All other London buses have to show blank or Special Service with 462 in the window.
Thanks to a quick sign test I found out that the resolution of the front screen is 512x88, already far superior to the standard 144x19 but with added smoothness from the anti-aliasing.
The Kings in town, at least i think he was. The Royal Train passed through Teignmouth heading south at approx 0500. The train took refuge on the South Devon Railway until approx 1000hrs when it pulled into Totnes where the King alighted. This is where i enter into the world of speculation and i speculate that he went to Dartmouth Naval College for a passing out parade.
He then returned at about 1400.
The train eventually left at 1435 as 1Z53 heading north but where is unknown at this moment in time.

The train consist has just arrived from Worcester after deadheading south for the last time to begin the final weekend of performances. Bringing up the rear is PW 4007, a GE B40-8W blt. Apr. 1992 as Santa Fe 582, and one of three of the model on the roster acquired from BNSF by the then independent P&W in 2010. Above the train can be seen the historic depot built in 1882 by the original Providence and Worcester Railroad replacing one dating from the 1847 opening of the railroad. This view looks across aptly named Railroad Street at about MP 16.5 as measured from Providence Union Station.
The depot is contributing structure to the Woonsocket Main Street Historic District which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. From the NRHP nomination form:
Providence & Worcester Railroad Station 1882, John W. Ellis, architect: The original 1847 railroad depot burned and was replaced in 1882 with what was considered the most impressive depot on the P&W line. The new station is a rectangular, one-and-one-half-story, red brick Queen Anne building housing the main waiting room with a similarly designed baggage handling and service extension at the north end. The jerkin-head gable roofline is oriented parallel to the railroad tracks, and the building faces onto Depot Square with one end abutting Main Street.
Prominent features include a protective overhang integrated into the roof slope and supported on large, curved brackets, which runs around three sides of the main building and extension. The central entrances on both sides are located below a large cross gable with elaborate decorative brickwork and terra cotta ornamentation, stained-glass and ocular windows, and terra cotta finials. A square clock tower with a tall, pyramidal hip roof topped with a distinctive locomotive weathervane rises from the roof ridge between the gables. The narrow Main Street elevation has now-altered storefronts on the first floor and brickwork, stained-glass windows, and a large central oriel window on the upper floor. The east end of the Depot Square elevation is sheathed in modern vertical wood siding and has no openings, reflecting the fact that this was originally a party wall shared with the Edwards Block, a Second Empire building that was demolished in the 196Os. The former building site is neatly landscaped with terraces and evergreen and deciduous plants.
The P&W really was Rhode Island's own railroad. Chartered in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts in 1844 it opened for business on 43 miles between its namesake cities in 1847. Built along portions of the Blackstone Canal that was opened in 1828, the P&W replaced the waterway as the main artery of transportation in the historically significant Blackstone River Valley - the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution.
The New Haven leased the P&W for 99 years in 1892 and that lease passed to the Penn Central in 1969. The PC intended to abandon the middle of the P&W and sever it as a through route when a group of dissident independent shareholders wrested control away from the giant carrier and began independent operations again. The P&W thrived on it's own for 43 years as a publicly traded company (I held a small equity position for many years) until being sold to Genessee & Wyoming in 2016. It's hard to see the P&W I loved and grew up with turn orange, but at least the rails remain and continue to thrive.

I converted my 20 year-old steel framed Dave Hinde road bike to a fixed gear many years ago, using a new rear wheel with an 'ENO' eccentric hub. However, it hasn't seen the light of day for two or three years, pending a change of handlebars. I have now fitted it with new 'bullhorn' handlebars (but no bar tape yet), so it looks like a proper retro fixie. I am running a 48 x 19 gear, which is low enough to get me up the relatively gentle local hills, but doesn't spin my feet off coming back down. Voila! Dave rides again!
I've been a little absent and I wanted to post something for Ma.Ktober for the first time.
So I built a small little SAFS. It was a lot of fun to build and didn't take very long, I had this done under 2 hours. This isn't copying one specific suit but I really like the space suits with the long stabilizers coming out from the head area.
It does fit a full helmet wearing fig. I know it's not to proper fig proportions but it's nice to know a fig can fit.
I had a lot of fun building this and I might try and build another SAFS a little bit later.
Met this distinguished man on the street, he marched on with full power and seemed very powerful and well-dressed.
Myself wearing old trousers and old jacket, gymnastic shoes and a wollen top hat.
Felt a little inferior, but thats life...

Instead we will go for miss prim and proper. she is a far nicer lady to know she wouldn't hurt a fly. She has a spider to do that for her.
Now I wonder if the house keeper has finished with those maids yet?
