I was pleasantly surprised to see that the P-3 is operated by a real valve. Also note hand grenade, revolver and ammo can center console. Looks great!

Proper Cornish smuggled across the Tamar into Plymouth under the noses of the Ivor Dewdney Pasty Police, appropriately, in Cornwall Street.
Now that I see this image in this size, I see that the awful graininess looks worse than ever, lol! This "artistic effect" is the result of "heat wave distortion" (not sure what the proper term is). I very rarely get to photograph Horned Larks, so wanted to add this to my Birds of Alberta Set.
After nine days at home, giving my stitches from minor surgery a chance to heal, an invitation by friends Cathy and Terry to go birding on 7 March 2014 was welcomed with open arms - as it always is! What a great day we had, searching SE of the city, and finding some really neat birds. Most were impossible to photograph because of distance, but also because we had "heat wave" distortion all day long, making it impossible to get photos that were sharp. It was one of those amazing days, out of the house from 7:15 a.m. till about 8:15 in the evening. By the end of the day, we had seen a total count of 19 owls, from three species - 8 Short-eared Owls, 8 Snowy Owls, 2 Great Horned Owls and one mystery owl. We couldn't decide if the latter was a Snowy Owl or a Short-eared Owl, as it was perched on top of a metal silo, way off in the distance. I sent a very poor photo of it to a very experienced birder friend and he identified it as a Snowy Owl. We missed a good photo opp with one of the Short-eared Owls, when we were pulled over, further down the road than several other photographers. We did see one down on the ground near the edge of the road in a different place, hiding in the dried grasses, but, again, my photo is blurry.
Also saw a Prairie Falcon perched on top of a metal silo and lots of Horned Larks - the latter constantly in flight or down on the road ahead of us or near the edge of a field.
As you will no doubt agree, it was an amazing day! Thanks so much, Cathy and Terry, for another rewarding day (which had started off rather slowly down in that area). Lots of fun!
Perhaps I should just wait until I get to a proper computer before posting B&W images. I'd worked from a cellphone (ick! ack!!) while on the road and shared a number of images while "on the move." I get a little impatient that way.
Once within proper computer range I realized I really should just sit down and try to process B&W images the way I "saw" them in my minds eye.
Posting from the field yields for me images along the lines of modern "Polaroid." Instant sketches. The challenge with this is I see I can not control the tonal ranges in the way I would prefer unless the scene is absolutely perfect to begin with.
Keeping in mind when looking at soft focus work it's best not to view them too large.
and the first vegetables (potatoes don't count) I'd seen on my plate since my arrival in the country.
Guinness tastes DIVINE here... I need to get my butt to Ireland and try one that's not an export ;)
My new lens!
A Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 ultra wide-angle, on sale at Amazon during Black Friday. It was waiting for me here in Reno when we returned from our 5-week "adventure" in Sylva, NC.
This manual-focus lens covers the whole sensor on my full-frame D600, and is the "chipped" version, which allows automatic exposure, focus confirmation, in-camera aperture control and proper EXIF tagging on all Nikon cameras.
Three exposure HDR set, handheld, processed with Photomatix.
The complex "moustache" distortion of this lens is easily corrected by a free Lightroom lens profile.

There!! Just before the tunnel appears around the bend, our first proper view of the famous skyline!!
Day Four. Long and amazing day..
Breakfast on the porch (sort of) in the sunshine, nice and early as we have to set off on a long mileage day, but an exciting day as we are due to head into the Sequoia National Park to see the giant trees and especially the biggest called General Sherman.!
(General Sherman is a giant sequoia tree located in the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park. By volume, it is the largest known living single-stem tree on Earth!) Wiki.
Then after that to head up and into the Yosemite National Park too!
Lovely stretches of open countryside from Visalia to the start of the Sequoia National Park, then some great bends/corners & twistys heading up and down valley sides until we got the area where the giant trees were!
We walked down the trails to see the General Sherman tree and take some shots then headed back to the bike and to get on the road again, getting some more fuel and chatting to a biker we headed out of Sequoia National Park stopping for a chat with one of the Park Rangers to check the road we had been shown to go on. He told us a big ‘no no’ as it was a dirt track! Not suitable for our bike at all.! :) Whoops!
So we headed down the mountains to Fresno for some lunch and fuel, (very nice lunch at Bettys!) Then headed to Yosemite National Park via a different but also amazing road with miles of lovely bends and twists etc..! Once in the park the weather clouded up and we hit some rain as we were going higher and higher into the mountains, we noticed some snow on the sides of the road too! We got up as far as 9 to 10.000ft in height! But amazingly as we neared the tunnel into the main part of Yosemite Valley, we dropped down out of the cloud and back into the setting sunshine which was behind us giving those great Go Pro screen shots in golden light.!
Then through the tunnel (with some clutch in and over reviving to make some cool Harley noises!) emerged into a breathtaking views of Half Dome and El Capitan with their tops lit in the low sunshine, absolutely glorious! We stopped in the car park just by the exit of the tunnel as the views down the valley were awesome indeed! Hence a lot of pictures!
After the sun set we headed down into the valley and along to El Portal to find our motel. It was pitch black now and it took a bit of finding! Booked in okay and after sorting our bags etc we had some late supper in their 'pub' and headed to bed! What a superb riding and views day - such contrasts and scenery!! 246 miles (smiles!).

Jill and I have done a 1140 mile round trip from and back to San Francisco on a rented Harley.! We are following route one south down as far as San Louis Obispo and then across via Visalia and El Portal via Sequoia & Yosemite National Parks, then up and up to South Lake Tahoe then back to San Francisco via Sacramento.!
