February 13th marked International Condom Day, a holiday observed in conjunction with Valentine’s Day that promotes prevention of STDs, HIV, and unwanted pregnancies through free condom distribution and safer sex awareness events and activities.
With the success of last year's "Condoms Are Cool" theme, AHF was proud to launch "Wrap Your App!" in the United States—where AHF hosted events in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and the District of Columbia—with events aimed specifically at youth, who account for 1 in 4 new HIV infections. The “Wrap Your App!” campaign—promoting safety and HIV, STD and pregnancy prevention—is a nod to tech savvy individuals built around a smartphone-themed graphic showing a menu of apps.
AHF also launched "Wrap Your Love" across the globe—our teams hosted over 160 events across the 35 countries we serve: distributing condoms, providing HIV testing, and hosting flash mobs.
The First Team promotes Marian Hernandez, senior division transportation non-commissioned officer, 1st Cavalry Division, from the rank of Master Sgt. to Sgt. Maj. on Feb. 10 at Fort Hood, Texas. As an Ordinance senior NCO there are only 7 positions total in the U.S. Army inventory available as an E-9. Sgt. Maj. Hernandez said she feels as though she can give back to a career that has given her so much, including numerous duty stations such as Germany, Afghanistan, Thailand and Fort Hood. "Have faith in yourself, keep working hard and make every day positive because you have the power to make every experience what it is," Hernandez said.

JUBA – 13 Jan. 2025: On his first visit to South Sudan, Bangladesh's Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, stressed the importance of progress towards peace and stability in the conflict-affected country. He also saw first-hand the contribution of the 1632 Bangladeshi peacekeepers who are protecting civilians, supporting the safe delivery of humanitarian aid and building hundreds of kilometers of roads across the country. The Head of UNMISS, Nicholas Haysom, recognized the impact of that work on the people of South Sudan.
“We have come to depend on a continuous level of support from the Bangladeshi people who provide peacekeepers to this country. Peacekeeping is the way that the world, as a whole, rallies around countries to help them recover from conflict and build stability."

To promote literacy and a love of reading, State Representative Cindy Harrison celebrated Read Across America by joining students at Booth Free School in Roxbury via Zoom and in-person at Southbury's Pomperaug Elementary School for their 5th Annual School-Wide Read-A-Thon.
At Pomperaug Elementary, Rep. Harrison read “Tops and Bottoms” by Janet Stevens and poems by Shel Silverstein from “Falling Up” and “A Light in the Attic”, she read “Where the Sidewalk Ends” by Shel Silverstein to Mrs. Scalora's class and. She let the children in Mrs. Haddad’s class pick the poems.
Rep. Harrison thanked the schools, their teachers and the students for allowing her to join the fun and share her love of books.

The 'Magnificat' promotes the study of music and fulfils a double role: as a place for dialogue and peaceful coexistance that permits human and social development; as a place for the direction and professional preparation of music students to a high standard in the fields of teaching and performance. The 'Magnificat Institute' is open for teachers, students, auxilliary personnel and musicians without discrimination of language, country, race or religion. Today the school has 200 students receiving tuition from 18 teachers: among them are Israelis, Palestinians and Armenians, of Jewish, Christian and Islamic Faith.
