The cave at Kumistavi in Imereti is named after Prometheus which many believed thad been chained to the Khvamli Mountain nearby. Some also say that it was mixed up with the Caucasian legend of Amirani, who like Prometheus, angered the gods and was punished and locked inside a huge cave.

The cave was only discovered in 1983, and today tourist has the opportunity to explore about a tenth of the cave, which runs about a kilometer long within the cave complex.

Jusepe de Ribera was a Spanish painter and etcher. In 1616 he settled in Italy; his life was full of dramatic incidents and this is reflected in the violent subject matter of his paintings, the contrasted modelling of his figures and the theatrical lighting of his compositions. He was strongly influenced by Caravaggio and Correggio and his own powerful style we associate today with the Spanish Baroque. His uncompromising realism is demonstrated in the Boy with a Club Foot. In his last paintings he achieved a mastery Velazquez's.
