First roll shot of LomoChrome Turquoise film. It's a limited, special color negative film. FPP carries it in 35mm, 120 and 620 format. This was shot at iso 200 in my Canon T60 / Promaster 19-35mm zoom / Home-souped using the Unicolor C-41 kit.

Lomo Turquoise will yield wacky colors like amber skies and blue flesh tones. Not sure why this film and Lomo's Purple film are called "Chrome" as they're both color negative films and the word chrome refers to positive slide film.

Ukraine Wedding Traditions

The Ukrainian Wedding is one of the most symbolic celebrations of Ukraine culture. Traditions and customs for Ukrainian weddings are numerous and have evolved through the ages. National traditions are dominant in Ukrainian wedding ceremonies. Some of them are very old and difficult to explain.

Over time things change, people and their preferences change, lifestyles and of course - one of the most important events in life "marriage" will change as well.

The most important wedding customs and rituals that were honored by our ancestors are still in use. Some customs, such as "matchmaking" and "buying out the bride" are heavily modified in order to adjust to modern couples' abilities. Other wedding rituals, such as the "betrothal"are performed strictly because of the religious connection to the wedding ceremony.

Forward to the past!

In 1995, I treated myself to this Citizen all-titanium alarm chronograph just before I embarked on a new career. The watch was actually outrageously expensive. At the time, Citizen praised its metal-injection technology, according to which the titanium case and band are powder-metallurgically sintered in a spraying process.

After 2007 - this photo is from this year - I didn't have the battery changed anymore and now, after my professional career, which started at the time, has been over for a while, I dug it out again and wanted to see if it was still working at all. At the battery service in Galeria Kaufhof (by the way, the escalators were still running!) I took a closer look at the lady. I actually expected that the discharged silver oxide cell would have expired in the 15 years or so and the whole work would have corroded. But everything is fine. Also interesting how I could see that the movement is all metal, not any plastic stuff. This is no longer a matter of course, even with not cheap brand watches.

Shopped for backdrop material at Jo Ann's (~850 locations in USA). I picked up a yard of white blizzard fleece for under $4. I used my Canon Elph to trigger my Promaster FTD-7000M as slave. Autocolor adjust in Irfanview. Subject is my recently acquired 1946 4x5 Graflex Speed Graphic.

From: www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/mesquite/are-me...

Are mesquite trees edible? Why, yes, they are, if you’re willing to put in a little elbow grease. Mesquite trees produce sweet seed pods which can be milled into flour. The seed pods should be harvested, when they are ripe, between the months of June and September (in the U.S.). It is recommended to harvest pods when they are dry and brittle, and to collect them directly from the tree branches in lieu of the ground to avoid contamination with fungi and bacteria.

Once harvested, you will want to ensure your pods are perfectly dry by drying them further on a drying rack or solar/conventional oven before grinding them up into mesquite flour. Mesquite flour is very nutritious and is said to impart a sweet nutty flavor. It can be substituted in part for flour in a wide variety of baked goods including breads, waffles, pancakes, muffins, cookies, cakes and much more. Feel free to add a tablespoon or two of mesquite flour to your smoothies, coffee, or tea to inject a flavor boost

Lots of gear complicates things. So, to carry only one tripod on an outing with various lenses and subjects, I modified several items for one, do-it-all, tripod arrangement. The whole issue is around the concept of a 'gimble' and versatility. Gimbles are used basically for large, heavy lenses but I wanted this to be for 'everything'! This setup is a Promaster gimble mount to which I've added several things. The gimble allows 3 dimensional steady shooting and is good for heavy lenses, and I think it will be good for movies, too, as well as a general tripod. I modified a Manfrotto long lens cradle, and then attached a promaster ball camera mount to the platform of the Manfrotto item which I then attached to the gimble. Quick release mounts were used for the interface between gimble and mount and between mount and camera. I can get vertical and horizontal positions and everything in between. The Manfrotto modification was/is necessary to get the left-side camera body away from the upright portion of the gimble' upright. A separate piece could have been made but I converted The Manfrotto piece I already had. Elevating the camera allows the camera to turn on either on the ball head to which it is mounted, or, alternately, from the gimble control--2 ways depending on what you get used to or perhaps what you are shooting. My Nikon D810 will do movies. If I had an opportunity to capture movement in a smooth and professional fashion while taking stills, why not??? I do shoot one heavy telephoto, one about 7 lbs [old Questar 700], and everything in between down to 14-24mm wide angle and up to about 1200 mm telephoto. For me, and I'm still getting used to it, the smoothness of the gimble is pleasant, and it can be 'locked' into position, or loosened for a more steady flow on moving objects, again for longer lenses and movies. The Promaster gimble is very smooth in movement and is significantly less expensive than the name brands. Mine cost about $140 in Topeka, Kansas. Others are well above $500.
