Hutsulian wedding in Bukovina.

Chernivtsi, Ukraine.

A long time ago, before giving the bride to the reliable hands of her future husband, she would have been dressed in a strict appropriate manner.

How long does it take? For example, Hutsuls(Carpathian Mountain natives) could spend three hours dressing the bride. Sure you will say that modern brides may take as much time with their preparations, with all those hairstyles and manicures. But understand that Hutsuls are not accustomed to elaborate cosmetic use, as they prefer a more natural look.

When dressing their brides, Hutsuls would beautify her with colorful embroidered shirts, a wide woven belt, hankerchieves, a sheepskin coat, an embroidered necklace, and special shoes – red sandals. The bride's hair would be beautifully braided and decorated with different flowers, ribbons and various small, red trinkets in which coins and cloves of garlic are hidden inside as a preventative measure against bad energies. The bride's mother would also put a wreath on the head of her daughter, in which the bride cannot take off until the end of a wedding. This is performed as a blessing of good luck for the couple's future.

Nowadays, the wreath is often replaced with bread given from the godparents. The bread will be decorated with a little wreath on top. It is customary for the bride to kiss the bread while kneeling.

While closest relatives are dressing the bride, she is sitting anxiously on a chair with a pillow. When the bride stands up and goes out to the groom, the bridesmaids compete against each other to be the first to fall on the pillow. The bridesmaid that falls on that pillow first – will be the first to become marrried herself.

Las Vegas again! This time it was to introduce the nice folks at B&C Camera to the wonders of the D750.

On hand to help out was the wonderful Nicole. Nicole kept the tradition of GREAT models in LV alive!! She was a pro and really wonderful to work with on this project.

The lighting was all provides by a ProMaster 1144 + a shoot thru Umbrella.

We pushed the ISO up a bit so that Nicole could be a bit more animated. I think she must have done four dozen hair flips that evening!

This was taken at Lighthouse Beach in Evanston. I was testing out an ND filter... It is weird. Definitely something I have to learn and get used to!

Anyways, Here is the old pier with a 30 second shutter speed. My ISO was 400 (Grain in the water). Surprisingly, these colors are pretty true to what what it looked like that night. It was very beautiful

One of the advantages of a 'Stay-cation'' is fixing something like this for lunch!

This shot was recorded and lit using a single Yongnuo YN560 III controlled by a Yongnuo YN560-TX. Modified with a 1/4 CTO gel and 1/4" grid.

These were on a Manfrotto PIXI Xtreme Mini Table Top Tripod sitting over the diagonal burner at the back of the stove, off camera right, about 14" away. Even at 1/128th power the light was blowing out the detail on the subject, so a ProMaster Variable ND filter was added to the lens to compensate.

First roll shot of LomoChrome Turquoise film. It's a limited, special color negative film. FPP carries it in 35mm, 120 and 620 format. This was shot at iso 200 in my Canon T60 / Promaster 19-35mm zoom / Home-souped using the Unicolor C-41 kit.

Lomo Turquoise will yield wacky colors like amber skies and blue flesh tones. Not sure why this film and Lomo's Purple film are called "Chrome" as they're both color negative films and the word chrome refers to positive slide film.

Just wanted to share something with the gear nerds....

Recent acquisitions, modern and vintage manual lenses. Both were insane bargains and essentially new!

The Samyang 12mm f/2.8 (FE-mount) is a 'stereographic Fish-eye'. Not a conventional one as this lens fills the entire frame and has a wider view.

The Promaster Spectrum 7 is actually a Sigma Mini-Wide II 28mm f/2.8. Promaster was a camera store brand that commissioned third party manufacturers for their products.

What came as a surprise was the design is 6 elements in 6 groups. I always assumed Sigma had a conventional 7 in 7 formula. Hmmm.
