On Friday, Sept. 15; students, faculty and staff celebrated Park(ing) Day at UMD. UMD students and employees created “parklets” in parking spaces across from the Clarice Performing Arts Center, reimagining street parking for the public use.

Grad students from MAPP+D and Student Planning Association (SPA) transformed two parking spaces along Stadium Drive to create a public engagement space that sparks conversation about environmental pollution, car culture and the public transit system.

A purple train car photo booth with fun props attracted lots of conversation and opinion about the Purple Line project, planning, policy making for the neighborhoods adjacent to the stations. Professor Ariel Bierbaum posed for photographs with a student showing her support with another student.
