Colonial Revival Semi-detached House (1924)

562–68 Wilson Ave.

Architect: George W. Kelham

Bay Terrace

Vallejo Heights

Vallejo, Solano

Architect George W. Kelham designed residences as part of the Mare Island Industrial Housing project planned in 1915 and built in 1918–24 to provide civilian workers' housing for the Mare Island Naval Shipyard. The district was originally called Georgetown but re-renamed Bay Terrace in 1920. The houses had varying exterior styles but were limited to about five floor plans. This is an example of a house with four four-room flats.

George W. Kelham (1871–1936) came to San Francisco in 1906. He organized the plan for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition in 1915 and designed numerous major buildings in San Francisco and elsewhere.

REACH is a local NGO born out of a business school project Plan set up in 2004. REACH became an independent organisation in 2008 and Plan Vietnam has been there to offer support as the org has worked with young people around the country. From humble beginnings, REACH has gone on to do great things and now offers vocational training and employment for Vietnam’s most disadvantaged youths. This photo was taken during the latest graduation, which saw 120 students collect their certificates.

With my folks in town, we'll be tackling various house projects today. A priority for me will be to fix a leaky sink, while I think Doobie and my mom will be working on the garden some. We have some work projects planned in anticipation of painting the house in the coming months, so the hope is to get everything ready so when the weather comes, we're ready to act.

My dad gifted us with a picture mug of a shot of Doobie and I from our recent France trip. We're enjoying a nice breakfast and I made some more of the Guamo.

These graphics were created by Steve Long for the Kettering Foundation Issue book, “Too Many Children Left Behind”. Texas Forums is adapting this issue book for Central Texas in partnership with E3 Alliance and Austin Voices for Education and Youth. Through the summer and fall of 2007, we will organize forums on this topic in seven communities. For those who are interested, we have a description of our project plan and are posting updates and additional resources on the Texas Forums blog.

The guide focuses on three approaches:

Raise expectations and accountability for all

Close the spending gap

Address the root causes

What message does this graphic send to you? How might it support the framework?

Steve provided these graphics for Texas Forums and other National Issues Forums or other community groups to use if they want to adapt this issue book for their community. The Issue in Brief is available to download for free. Order information about the full issue book is here.

Welcome sign, cacti, and water tower at the Cocopah Bend RV & Golf Resort is a Cocopah-owned 300-acre facility that offers indoor and outdoor recreational opportunities for its residents and guests near Yuma, Arizona, on August 24, 2023.

In another part of the Sovereign Nation of the Cocopahs, some of their businesses will benefit directly from the solar power project planned by the Cocopah Tribe. Through the Rural Partners Network (RPN), the Cocopah Tribe may work with the Department of Energy (DOE) to improve the Tribe’s energy independence and sustainability and reduce energy costs. Whether on their own or with DOE, the two-part project includes part one, an electric utility meter consolidation converting six small meters to one primary meter with a better Arizona Public Service (APS) rate structure, which empowers the ability for solar generation and future business growth with reduced cost, then part two, solar generation with the installation of a Cocopah-owned solar generation system to power the businesses fed by the new primary meter. The planned solar generation will reduce operating costs by offsetting energy charges from APS. The Cocopah Indian Tribe, home to about 900 members, is approximately 13 miles south of Yuma.

The Tribe, known as the River People, have lived along the lower Colorado River and delta for centuries. The Cocopahs descended from the greater population of Yuman-speaking people. The Cocopah will focus its collaborative work on housing and essential community facility development.

The RPN is an alliance of federal agencies and commissions working directly with rural communities to expand rural prosperity through job creation, infrastructure development, and community improvement. In Arizona, The RPN is partnering with two Tribal Nations, each with a rich history, culture, language, and land base. Arizona is part of the inaugural cohort of states with RPN and the only state centered exclusively in Tribal nations. USDA Photo by Jay Pinsky.

(Jan 2014) Journal Pages of the gas guzzler project, planning th efinal images.

The top page shows my Jesse Draxler Inspired Collage where I have layered the BP logo in various colours around the "gas guzzler's" head. In the end I went with a similar composition but used hand drawn illustrations.

Inspired by David Fullarton. I layered fire hazard symbols and typography over the image, experimenting printing on different types of paper.

The final pages show my experiment weaving the logos of supermarkets and petrol garages together by hand to convey the criminals confusion. This was a successful experiment, but I felt it couldn't be developed or expanded enough for use as a final image.

The AlphaSonic Mustang

Taken straight from the dealer to the paintbooth, this Mustang never had to experience life as an inferior factory looking pony. When Rick Anderson from AlphaSonic said he wanted to make this car “HOT” well there was just one option. I’d say the challenge was met. Jeff Mersey again comes through and this became one bad horsey!

Yesterday, students from Auburn Area Catholic School and St. Elizabeth Area Catholic School gathered to celebrate Catholic Schools Week. Father Alberto Vargas celebrated Mass with the group and afterwards, the students learned more about their faith through fun games and also enjoyed recess together.

More than 2,000 Catholic school students across the Diocese of Saginaw are celebrating Catholic Schools Week from Jan. 28 to Feb. 3 along with nearly 2 million Catholic school students across the United States. Catholic school students in all 13 schools across the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw are participating in the nationwide Catholic Schools Week celebration from Jan. 29 to Feb. 3. The theme this year is “Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.”

“Catholic schools have made a tremendous contribution to the intellectual and moral strength of our country and, indeed, the world,” said the Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw. “Founded on the generosity and sacrifice of parents and parish communities, they have excelled due to the commitment and expertise of many priests and religious congregations, as well as dedicated lay faculty and staff.”

Catholic Schools and Catholic Schools Week

The week-long, national observance of Catholic Schools Week serves as an opportunity to highlight the contributions of Catholic schools to the Church, local community and country. In addition to the service projects planned, special Masses and fun school activities will be taking place. There also will be several open houses for families interested in learning more about Catholic school education.

As a group, Catholic school students perform among the top in the country. They have a 99-percent graduation rate and 94 percent go to college. Additionally, Catholic school students are known for the countless hours of service they provide in their local communities.
