The South Pole Ice Coring (SPICE) drill returns to the surface after retrieving an ice core. The South Pole Ice Core (SPICE) project plans to drill to a depth of 1,500 meters, a depth that is estimated to cover about 40,000 years of climate history. This is part of an initiative called International Partnerships in Ice Core Sciences, which seeks to create a network of ice cores over similar timescales spread across both Antarctica and Greenland. The target of 40,000 years represents the transition from the last ice age, known as a glacial, to the present warm period called an interglacial. Islamabad, January 18, 2013 –U.S. Ambassador Richard Olson met today with more than 100 students who have studied in the United States and encouraged them to work hard to make Pakistan a better place. “Education is the key to future prosperity and economic growth,” said Ambassador Olson. “I’m proud that my country has had a role in your education and helped your country, one student at a time,” he told 100 alumni of the Study of the U.S. Institute (SUSI) exchange program. The SUSI program sends students from all regions of Pakistan and a variety of backgrounds to the United States for six weeks to study at a U.S. university. During the reunion, participants discussed their experiences in the United States and how they used what they learned and made plans to develop service projects in their hometowns in Pakistan. “Your country needs you. Devote your time and energy to making Pakistan the country you want it to be,” Ambassador Olson said. “We will continue to support you.” The Ambassador encouraged the students to apply for funding from the U.S. Small Grants program, which awards grants to individuals with promising proposals aimed at improving their communities in Pakistan. He also encouraged the students to remain engaged in their alumni networks, through which they can organize community service projects, plan social activities, and benefit from professional development opportunities. Since 2005, the U.S. Embassy has sent over 100 Pakistani university students from a wide range of backgrounds and locations to the United States to attend the SUSI program. This summer, 32 more students will attend this program. Through SUSI, students gain skills to implement long-term civic and economic changes in their communities, receive leadership training, and participate in community service projects while in the United States. The U.S. Embassy in Pakistan sponsors the largest U.S. exchange program in the world, with over 1,000 students and professionals traveling to the United States each year. More than 10,600 low-income students attend college in Pakistan with the support of U.S.-funded scholarships. In cooperation with the Government of Pakistan, the United States is also helping to establish Centers for Advanced Studies at Pakistani universities focused on energy, water, and agriculture. The sixth edition of the Globethics.net's flagship event, the Global Ethics Forum, was held in Geneva from 25 to 27 June 2015. Leaders, experts and future leaders from civil society, government, religious and academic institutions as well as from the business sector came together to share their learning and experiences in order to take action together to promote responsible leadership.
The Forum welcomed a total of 160 participants from all continents. Over 50 speakers shared their insights in four plenary sessions and 12 workshops, resulting in concrete project plans on the conference topic "Responsible Leadership in Action: The Value of Values." The programme also featured a public evening with a panel discussion, music and a reception hosted by the City of Geneva at the Graduate Institute Geneva. On the organizational level, the gathering focused on overarching tools like organisational training and codes of ethics, integrated reporting and dialogue; sector-specific tools; as well as problem-specific tools such as those used to address gender equality. Workshops were designed to exchange insights on existing tools and then to create a work plan to build upon them for greater impact.
As well as providing the opportunity to forge and strengthen invaluable relationships between different actors, the Forum's outcomes include a colourful bouquet of concrete plans to foster responsible leadership in organisations, including: disseminating knowledge about codes of ethics; creating access to sustainable jobs and education; enhancing awareness and knowledge about gender ethics; strengthening values-driven responsible investment; improving Africa-China business relations through further dialogue; developing an integrated values-based sustainability toolkit for business; understanding higher education's impact on community; ensuring knowledge exchange on values-based higher education programmes; fostering ethical elections in DR Congo; and advancing responsible resource management in religious organisations.

I have been tracking this development for many years because I live at Henrietta Place which is a laneway off Henrietta Street.
In May 2016, the boundary wall dividing Broadstone and Grangegorman was removed, creating a historic pathway joining the two sites for the first time. The true story is slightly different as the routs is a temporary with limited hours which to not match normal working hours. The Grangegorman Development Agency said on its website: “The Minister for Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform Paschal Donohoe TD officially opened the new link between Grangegorman and Constitution Hill this morning, Friday 16 November. This new link, while temporary, is historic, as it is the first time the Grangegorman site will link directly to the north inner city.”
“It will be possible to walk from the campus to Bolton Street in 9 minutes" ... I have some issues with this as the entrance to Kings Inns Park is closed at weekends and on holidays. If the gates are open the Broadstone tram stop is the nearest to my apartment but if the gates are closed it takes much less time to walk to the Lower Dominick stop.
The Luas Stop at Broadstone opened in late 2017 and, to be honest, I was under the impression that the public space are would have been completed at the same time.However, according to the online project plan works to the Plaza are ongoing and due to be completed by summer 2020.
The Broadstone Gate will provide access to the Grangegorman site once complete and is currently being developed as part of the Luas Cross City works. It will act as a public plaza and will provide much needed linkage between Grangegorman and Dublin city.
The plaza is situated off Constitution Hill on the site of the old royal canal at the former Great Western Railway Station commonly known as Broadstone, and will mark a prominent entrance to the Grangegorman urban quarter.
The Broadstone site, which borders Grangegorman on its east side, was subject to a Part VIII planning process in 2014 in order to facilitate the site development and gate access.
Under the Grangegorman Masterplan, the primary urban path through Grangegorman – St Brendan’s Way will link with the Broadstone Gate which when completed will reach as far as Prussia Street.
The link with Broadstone can also be seen as an extension to the 18th century historic spine of Dublin City which covered Dublin Castle across Grattan Bridge, along Capel Street/Bolton Street, Henrietta Street and King’s Inn.

The resulting Haiti Action Network, now in its eighth year, has galvanized more than 100 Commitments to Action focused on Haiti. To accomplish this, more than 300 companies, nonprofits, multilateral organizations, and government entities have partnered with the Action Network—illustrating that addressing challenges in the country requires a comprehensive approach. The virtual courtroom could soon become a reality, according to the Law Lab of the Linz Institute of Technology (LIT). The technologies already available offer enormous potential for the rule of law. In the present, authorities and parties come together for oral proceedings. The projects themselves only know these from plans and in criminal trials, for example, photos or films of the crime scene are shown. The project “The Virtual Court. Reality.” shows the possibilities of how these hearings could be conducted in the future. Virtual reality technology makes it possible, for example, to participate without being tied to a specific location, to include digital sources, animations of project plans or the visualisation of expert forecasts or crime scenes using 360° technologies. But this is only a small sample of the options that virtual reality could implement. At the exhibition, visitors are immersed in a virtual court of the future. They find themselves as parties in a virtual courtroom and can stand up for their rights to experience the importance of new technologies for the rule of law with all their senses and at first hand.

The Helix Bridge (Chinese: 螺旋桥), previously known as the Double Helix Bridge (Chinese: 双螺旋桥), is a pedestrian bridge linking Marina Centre with Marina South in the Marina Bay area in Singapore. It was officially opened on April 24, 2010 at 9 pm.[1] It is located beside the Benjamin Sheares Bridge and is accompanied by a vehicular bridge, known as the Bayfront Bridge.
The bridge complements other major development projects planned in the area, including the highly-anticipated Integrated Resort Marina Bay Sands, Singapore Flyer, Gardens by the Bay and the 438,000 m² business and financial centre which will be ready by 2012.
Students will have enhanced access to online learning opportunities thanks to a new partnership between the university and Quizam Media Corporation. The Forum welcomed a total of 160 participants from all continents. Over 50 speakers shared their insights in four plenary sessions and 12 workshops, resulting in concrete project plans on the conference topic "Responsible Leadership in Action: The Value of Values." The programme also featured a public evening with a panel discussion, music and a reception hosted by the City of Geneva at the Graduate Institute Geneva. "The insights shared focused on both parts of the responsible leadership equation: the personal and the organisational level of value awareness, practice and stewardship for stakeholder needs", commented Professor Christoph Stückelberger, Executive Director and Founder of Globethics.net.
On the personal level, keynote speaker Musimbi Kanyoro, President and CEO of the US-based Global Fund for Women, emphasised the need for empathy towards the people one serves, as well as sharing, celebrating others and accepting failure.
The programme also offered a personal reflection session on the value of compassion and emphasized sharing, openness and gratefulness as core values for the Forum experience.
On the organizational level, the gathering focused on overarching tools like organisational training and codes of ethics, integrated reporting and dialogue; sector-specific tools; as well as problem-specific tools such as those used to address gender equality. Workshops were designed to exchange insights on existing tools and then to create a work plan to build upon them for greater impact.
As well as providing the opportunity to forge and strengthen invaluable relationships between different actors, the Forum's outcomes include a colourful bouquet of concrete plans to foster responsible leadership in organisations, including: disseminating knowledge about codes of ethics; creating access to sustainable jobs and education; enhancing awareness and knowledge about gender ethics; strengthening values-driven responsible investment; improving Africa-China business relations through further dialogue; developing an integrated values-based sustainability toolkit for business; understanding higher education's impact on community; ensuring knowledge exchange on values-based higher education programmes; fostering ethical elections in DR Congo; and advancing responsible resource management in religious organisations.

Highland Council is to submit a detailed planning application tomorrow for the new Torvean Golf Course, as part of its project plans for enhanced sports facilities in the city, made possible with the building of the Inverness West Link.
The planning application in principle for the Torvean Golf Course, Sports Hub & Parkland Application was granted on the 14th April 2014.
The project delivery is conditional on the Council obtaining the statutory consents to build the Inverness West Link road and funding being approved by The Council at its meeting in March 2015.
The construction of the West Link requires a reconfiguration of the Golf Course and an estimated investment of £1.3 million is the minimum required to relocate the golf holes to enable the building of the road.
Additional enhancements to the golf course have been developed as part of the proposals, in a greater ambition for the City of Inverness, thus enabling further economic development in the area.
The proposals include:
Locating the new 18 hole golf course in one contained area of land
A Practice area that allows for the Club to expand it to SGU Development Standard status
A new Clubhouse, which will accommodate a Junior Room;
New Maintenance buildings
An access road to service the Clubhouse and Maintenance building.
As highlighted in the approved Torvean and Ness-side Development Brief, this relocation of the golf course will also release residual existing golf course land to the East of General Booth Road to enable the development of a sports hub. Land to the South of the A82 will be freed up for informal public open space and a mixed use development adjacent to the canal at this important gateway to Inverness and discussions are ongoing with Scottish Canals to consider opportunities and bring these forward.
The expanded golf project is estimated to cost an additional £7.41 million (December 14) and could see a start of works in 2016.
The Council has been working on the proposals involving a range of partners and officers were invited by the Scottish Golf Union to attend a meeting at Torvean Golf Club on 20 January 2015 to present the proposals for the new golf course and associated infrastructure.
Hamish Spence, President of Torvean Golf Club said: "Torvean Golf Club have, for the past two years, been working closely with the Council on this project. We are delighted that it is now taking a major step towards fruition. As well as the obvious benefits to our members, the new clubhouse and course will be a major improvement to the existing sporting facilities available to the local community and will provide a massive boost to tourism in the city of Inverness and the wider Highland area.”
Councillor Thomas Prag, Chair of the Development and Infrastructure Committee welcomed the news of the proposals reaching planning application stage. He said: “I am delighted with the progress we are making across a number of fronts associated with the Inverness West Link and the associated sports and leisure projects. The plans are ambitious and will deliver substantial long term assets to the city.”
Leader of The Highland Council, Councillor Drew Hendry added: “The delivery of the West Link is a key commitment in the Council’s Programme and will greatly improve our infrastructure, linking communities, reducing congestion in the city and supporting economic development.”
The planning process for the enhanced sports facilities will include a public display of the Canal Parks Rugby Club proposals at the Inverness Aquadome on Tuesday 27th January 2015 from 10am until 8pm.

A great day: cycled in to work for the first time in ages, got loads of project planning done, came back in time for Dave's interviewing Meg about video use, and then picked up Jonny and Rob for a meal out at Chez Gerard. But, though it was an action packed day, I managed to forget my self-portrait and remembered as Kate and I took Henry on his bedtime walk round the block.
I have just been assigned a new task! The project hopes to evaluate and review the status of one of the big projects in my organisation. Myself and a colleague have booked a meeting room, so we can do a “brain storming” session.
