El proyecto para la ubicación de la sede de la empresa Cualtis en Madrid parte de un anodino edificio trapezoidal de 5 plantas y fachadas de ladrillo visto de color rojo, con un gran número de ventanas de distribución convencional, ubicado en una zona industrial en plena remodelación, y rodeado de edificaciones de mediana altura de la década de 1970 con una arquitectura muy diversa. En este contexto la empresa de prevención Cualtis apuesta por dar una imagen de singularidad a su nueva sede. Al encontrarse lejos de las zonas de tránsito habituales, era necesario trasladar el edificio a una primera fila, de modo que fuera fácilmente distinguible entre las alturas del resto de edificios vecinos.
“La situación y uso del edificio hizo que nos planteásemos un diseño radical” comenta el equipo de Denorte Project Management. El edificio se concibe sobre el sólido pedestal que alberga la planta baja y eleva un inmenso y etéreo lienzo blanco curvo, de chapa metálica minionda, con grandes aperturas irregulares que permiten y tamizan el paso de la luz solar al interior y la carga solar en los puestos de trabajo y que delinea su volumen trapezoidal. Una segunda piel hecha de panel celosía de composite Decodesk anodizado blanco mate dos caras, que descontextualiza su forma a través de los huecos practicados en sus celosías, separada 15 centímetros de la primera y original, otorga al edificio la sensación de ligereza, continuidad y fluidez que lo caracteriza. La trama se eleva por encima de la cota máxima del edificio, haciéndolo más liviano y etéreo. Una superficie total de fachadas de 2713m2
Una vez definida la forma, no se buscaba la función, sino la acción, generado el conjunto del edificio con su doble piel de color blanco mate en sus cuatro fachadas, se convierte conscientemente en un lienzo irregular que dará soporte a la intervención artística de Suso33 -artista urbano y graffitero conocido por sus intervenciones sobre medianeras abandonadas o derruidas de edificios anteriores, que denomina “Ausencias” por la vida que habitó en ellas— a quien los arquitectos confían la estética final del edificio, las cuatro fachadas se transforman en un único lienzo. Suso33 plantea aquí la presencia de grupos de personas que pasean, suben, bajan fluyen, confluyen y conversan, humanizando la arquitectura, plasma sus “Presencias” que rompen la escala del edificio resaltando el tamaño de las personas y no al revés… Humanizando la arquitectura… Una gran superficie donde la ausencia se torna presencia y el edificio se hace persona y pierde su escala, con siluetas que resaltan el tamaño de las personas y no al revés. Y es que “las personas son mucho más grandes que los edificios” señalan los responsables de la intervención.
SUSO33 (Madrid, 1973), un creador heterodoxo, que partiendo del graffiti y del Street Art los ha desbordado, desplegando a lo largo de tres décadas una obra trans-disciplinar que disuelve las fronteras entre pintura, performance, y artes escénicas. Su obra parte de la emoción, de la acción y del compromiso con la comunidad. Se ha desarrollado en las tres últimas décadas, y recorre diferentes campos que van desde sus comienzos como escritor de graffiti hasta sus proyectos escénicos; al tiempo que propone un viaje hacia sus preocupaciones: la angustia existencial, la preferencia por el arte efímero, la recuperación del espacio público para los ciudadanos y la crítica al sistema social que excluye a los marginados.

Led by Honolulu District Commander Lt. Col. Thomas D. Asbery, 14 District teammates and their friends and partners hiked to Makapu’u Lighthouse on April 15, 2013 to celebrate the 108th anniversary of the District’s founding.
The Corps’ history in Hawaii and the Pacific began in 1905 when Lt. John Slattery became the Honolulu District’s first commander. His original mission was to construct lighthouses for navigation, like Makapu’u.
Makapu’u Lighthouse was built by the Corps in 1909 on a 600-foot sea cliff overlooking Makapu’u Beach in southeast Oahu. Makapu’u Point is an important location passed by all ships moving between Honolulu and the U.S. Mainland.
The critical need for this light was demonstrated in August 1906 when the 27,000-ton S.S. Manchuria ran up on a reef off the point. Congress had already appropriated $60,000 for the light on October 1, 1909.
The lens for this light was one of the wonders of the Pacific. Press clips of the time noted that the lens, which had been exhibited at the Jamestown Exposition, was one of the most expensive in the world.
The lighthouse is 46-feet-tall (14 meters) and was fully automated in 1974. It is still an active U.S. Coast Guard navigation aid in use today.
