Lahore – May 2, 2019: New software and a related mobile app developed with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will strengthen the maternal and child health sector in Punjab by digitizing the reporting, processing, and archiving of healthcare providers’ training records.
At an event launching the new digital system, USAID Project Management Specialist Dr. Ismail Virk said he hoped joint U.S.-Pakistan efforts would help achieve the countries’ common goal of reducing maternal and child mortality.
Minister of Population Welfare Col. (Retd) Muhammad Hashim Dogar joined government and private sector representatives at the event, which also included the handover of training equipment to the Punjab Population Welfare Department. He welcomed the introduction of innovative technologies to transform the health sector.
Tadrees, the new software, will reduce duplication in training records and ensure training opportunities are divided equitably among healthcare workers. Records were previously maintained manually. Tadrees will be supplemented by Supportive Supervision, an Android-based application, which will institutionalize post-training support to enhance the knowledge, skills, and performance of service providers working for the Punjab Health and Population Welfare Departments.
In partnership with the Pakistani government, USAID aims to strengthen the skills of healthcare providers and community-based health workers in Punjab, Balochistan, and Sindh. In Punjab, the program has trained healthcare workers in 29 of 36 districts.
