Re-numbered and re-geared into 9F mode (as per the cab side above the number) GBRf’s 66779 ‘Evening Star’ has been modified into Heavy Haul configuration at Progress Rail’s Longport workshop, becoming 66689 ‘Evening Star’. Seen sitting in the yard at Longport on Sunday 18th May 2025.

Sporting all three colours that have operated on their services currently, LDP005, SCT006 and LDP001 fly through Ourimbah on the Short North with 7MB9 from Laverton, Vic to Bromelton, QLD.

LDP005 sports the only Progress Rail livery whilst SCT006 still has the current SCT colours and LDP001 wears the old debadged Downer Rail colours.

As far as I am aware, this one is not yet in the Class 69 build program, though the donors for the last couple of machines (69015/16) have still to be identified. 08752 sits in the background. Metrolink F125 922 leads an eastbound train out of Claremont on track 1, a rarity nowadays with directional running. This train would normally have used track 2, however crews are in the process of replacing the rail on this track, as can be seen by the strings of rail along the ROW and if you look closely, you can see shiny new tie clips on the far rail on track 2.

Look carefully and you will see 69013 in chalk on the cabside of what used to be 56312 as it is parked in the yard of Progress Rail in Longport. Seems to be neither one nor t’other as of Sunday 12th February 2023.

The sun has all but gone on the afternoon of 19-6-15 as 4319,4404 pass 4483,5658 on empty ore trains in the Mooka yard

This afternoon, a friend and I took off to the La Junta Sub to catch the two Tier IV EMD's coming in on the H-PUEKCK. After overrunning the train near Cedar Point, KS, we got these shots of it pulling into the siding at Clements. The lighting certainly wasn't ideal, but I'll take what I can get.

These Black Eyed Susans are in bloom all over right now, and certainly add a nice touch of color to some otherwise drab photos.

Here is Queensland Railways new locomotive 2901 with 2472 attached arriving in Miles for the first time.

Another day, another motley collection of stripped out shells at Progress Rail, Longport (ex EMD). Today's line-up features 56128, 56077, 56038 & 56065, all stripped out and ready for the next stage of their transformation to Class 69s. Monday 21st October 2019.

On the outside these look virtually unchanged from their as delivered appearance other than a new paint scheme. Internally they have crew comfort improvements as well as mechanical and electrical upgrades. Maybe they will continue to earn their keep and help diversify the sea of GE's currently moving CSX trains.

A Lancaster and Chester Railway dinner train dinner train approaches Memorial Park Road in Lancaster in April, 2004. Tje train was run by the railroad as a charity event for Andrew Jackson State Park. The consist that day was two EMD SW1200s numbered 93 and 98, the Golden Tower, the J. Pinckney Henderson, both of which were in the L&C fleet, and two Aberdeen, Carolina & Western Railway dinner cars. The SW1200s have been sold off in favor of larger motors as have the two L&C passenger cars.

L&C 93 was built in November 1957 as Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) 7900, to Penn Central, number unknown, to Conrail (CR) 9354, to LC 93, to Progress Rail (PRLX) 93.

A Canadian Pacific ethanol train led by a a CSXT Dash-8 locomotive runs thru the "High and Wide" detector at Walker Rd in rural Hampshire, IL This detector appears to be manufactured by Progress Rail Services. It was installed to detect shifted loads, leaning cars etc after an incident when a shifted lumber load smashed the windows of some Metra coaches as a freight passed thru the Elgin Metra coach yard ,many years ago. I just about got frostbite from waiting probably no more than 15 min for this train. Amazingly cold out tonight

Getting put through their paces as part of the transfer from Direct Rail Services to GB Railfreight, debranded Beacon Rail Leasing-owned Class 66s 66304 + 66305 (in multi) get 6E17 12:58 Liverpool Biomass Terminal to Drax Power Station underway from the peg at Plumley West.

On the second day of June 2019, Metrolink F125 916 leads test train #501X past signal 1081 in La Verne, CA. This is on the Pasadena Sub, the former Santa Fe Second District. Normally only traversed by the BNSF Pasadena Local, M-F, the test train was checking out new signal/grade crossing protection circuits. Starting early in 2020, construction will start on the Covina-Pomona extension of the Gold line, which will utilize this right of way. When completed, expected sometime in 2026, there will be three new tracks here, two under wires, and this "old time feel" former mainline will be but a memory.

GB Railfreight Class 66/6, 66793 heads through Hartford as it makes its long way back from Prestwick Airport to Grain with a rake of 20 discharged aviation fuel tanks as 6O68 1200 Prestwick BP Oil to Grain Oil Terminal.

This is understood to be the start of a monthly flow to replace what the airport previously had delivered from the Grangemouth refinery.

The switch to moving fuel hundreds of miles from Kent is a result of INEOS closing Grangemouth as a refinery, as it was losing hundreds of millions per year due to being old and inefficient.

No one (private owners nor government) could justify spending billions over many years upgrading it when the world is moving away from oil/fossil fuel, so instead Grangemouth is becoming an import terminal only.

The fuel they’re now importing at Grangemouth isn’t of the type/quality BP need at Prestwick for the aeroplanes, though, hence why the fuel is now being sent from Grain - which itself is an import terminal these days.

Queensland Railways newish locomotive 2901 departing Dulacca, heading east for Toowoomba.

Aurizon's 2339D & 2706 lead train 9811 through Chinchilla. 9811 had departed from the Cameby Downs Mine at Columboola around an hour before, with a full load of export coal.

While remembering there were 2 more SD70ACU leaders on the way, I decided to stick around. Here was the 1st one, CP 7042 leading a 647 along with 3 other GEs (2 on the rear), roaring up the grade out of Soo Line Jct and through Little Canada. An interesting note about CP 7042 is, normally there'd be a reflective white stripe on the front anti-climber, but in this case, it seems to be missing

Three old locomotives sit at the Progress Rails shot in Waycross back in 2007. Nearest us is LOSX #2489, a SW1500 buillt for the St. Louis Southwestern Railway in 1968.

Then there is the former Chicago Central & Pacific EMD GP10 #8190. She was built in 1956 as Illinois Central GP9 #9190. The last shot I have found off it was taken in 2016.

Next up is LOSX EMD NW2 #20. I cannot find much information on it online, but it is in the same 2016 shot that I found of the CC #8190.
