GB Railfreight Class 66, 66710 "Phil Packer BRIT" - with driver Aidan making his solo debut having got on at Salop Goods Junction - works 4M57 0022 Mossend Euroterminal GBRf to Hams Hall GBRf past a gloomy Chorlton.

The demise of Channel Tunnel railfreight continues with the last inbound working of one of the three remaining regular flows through "Le Hole". The Neuss-Daventry-Ditton aluminium flow operated by DB Cargo on behalf of Novelis has run for many years supplying aluminium to Jaguar Land Rover and returning waste product for recycling.

Despite this being a seemingly environmentally-friendly flow and the continued drive to "Net Zero", my understanding is this freight is now switching to road.

DB Cargo Class 66, 66125 works the inbound Novelis train for the final time, running as 6M13 01:04 Dollands Moor Sidings to Ditton Foundry Lane AHC English Welsh & Scottish Railway through Winsford, Cheshire.

Just two regular freight flows remain through the Channel Tunnel - the daily Danone (Evian) bottled water and the Toyota cars three nights per week - mustering a paltry 14 trains in total each week.

A trio of leased power sits in the middle of KC Junction at Memphis. FURX 5503 was built as Southern 2818 in 1970. The two PRLX units are quite obviously former CSX motors. UP Sargent Yard is seen in the distance.

Twilight has descended in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The air is still a touch warm. As vibrant hues of blue, yellow, and orange illuminate the western sky. Despite the noise from parallel Interstate 80, sounds are accentuated. In the distance is the distinct shrill of a locomotive horn. As the minutes go on, a steady dull growl starts to permeate the air. Lights begin to shimmer in the distance. Headlights appear, its a long, heavy train. Even with the overwhelming sights, sounds, and smells of the approaching train, the entire scene is calm. Even as the train drifts by, the scene is still calm. What a nice moment.

Named Thor and built by Progress Rail, 4442 leads 4349 as the mid train banking units behind 4340,4379 on an empty ore train between Garden and Shaw on 21-6-15

This afternoon, a friend and I took off to the La Junta Sub to catch the two Tier IV EMD's coming in on the H-PUEKCK. After overrunning the train near Cedar Point, KS, we got these shots of it pulling into the siding at Clements. The lighting certainly wasn't ideal, but I'll take what I can get.

Once in the hole at Clements, there were a couple that ran around it. First up was this coal empty, the E-DOLEBM, with the nice looking BNSF 9628 on the point.

UP 8788 leads the Roseville Yard to Roper Yard (Salt Lake City) manifest train through the curves at Magra. It's becoming a tougher climb for the train.

The 70s and 80s novel solid-state Dash-2 card by today’s microprocessor standard is a clunky, rudimentary piece of modular electrical gear that acts as the “brain” of thousands of so equipped EMD locomotives found in over twenty variants of the widely popular series of locomotives back when EMD as king of locomotives, not to mention the many more non-Dash-2 locomotives that would eventually be converted to or rebuilt with the Dash-2 electrical cabinet and related components. Introduced on New Year’s Day of 1972, the technology is a testament to its superb design by the fact that surviving examples are fetching more now then they did when new! And looky here, this Dash-2 card is still doing its job though what it’s indicating is rather undesirable. Hopefully, this ol’ La Grange mare just needs a good helping of water to cool her down. ©21Nov19

You never know what you will find on the backroads. Such was the case on Old US 30 west of Evanston, WY. Between the Wyoming state line and Wahsatch, UT, sits a circa 1955 flat car, now serving as a MOW road bridge. In sharp yellow letters against a boxcar red backdrop reads: "Road of the Streamliners." Catching this was such a nice treat. Here, the westbound IG2LT passes the repurposed flat car.

As of today, Progress Rail has taken over ownership of Montana Rail Link's F45s (including my namesake 390). Progress Rail will have a contractor scrap the two in the next few weeks. Here sits the 390 in the old paint shop building in Livingston, Montana, less than two weeks ago. I weep!

It's a beautiful, warm summer morning in the sierra foothills. The quiet at Applegate, CA is interrupted by the roar of three diesels and mile long freight train. It's the eastbound QRVNP (Roseville, CA to North Platte, NE) manifest train. The train slowly approaches tunnel 28 on the original Central Pacific mainline.
