O principal objetivo do programa “Mais Médicos” é reduzir as desigualdades de saúde ampliando o “Programa Saúde da Família” reduzindo as disparidades no acesso a serviços de saúde de qualidade que continuam atingindo grande parte da população brasileira. O Programa é congruente com o plano Nacional de Desenvolvimento do Brasil 2022 o que vai acelerar os avanços nas realizações das metas dos Objetivos de Desenvolvimento do Milênio da Nações Unidas.
Até o momento o Programa Mais Médicos conta com 14,168 médicos, do qual 11,429 são administrados pela OPAS. Os médicos que participam do programa trabalham em 3,785 municípios e 34 comunidades indígenas. O programa Mais Médicos atende a uma população de mais de 48.6 milhões de brasileiros e conta com uma cobertura de 100% de todos os municípios que se aplicaram para o programa.

December 5, 2019 at Ceramics Program, Office for the Arts at Harvard: In this workshop, Randy demonstrated his methods for making pottery within traditional concepts, with a focus on the exchange of ideas involved in making pots related to function and why we make the objects we choose to make.
Randy Johnston has had an illustrious 45-year career in ceramics. He is recognized internationally as an artist who has pursued functional expression and brought a fresh aesthetic vision to contemporary form, and for his many contributions to the development of wood kiln technology in the United States. He is professor and department chair emeritus at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls, where he taught ceramics and drawing. His work has been exhibited internationally and he is the recipient of numerous awards including the Bush Artist Fellowship granted by the Bush Foundation in Minnesota and two Visual Artist Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, and a Distinguished teaching award in American Arts from the James Renwick Society of the Smithsonian. Johnston received an MFA from Southern Illinois University and a BFA in Studio Arts from the University of Minnesota where he studied with Warren MacKenzie. He also studied in Japan at the pottery of Shimaoka Tatsuzo, who was a student of Shoji Hamada. Johnston has presented hundreds of lectures and guest artist presentations worldwide. He has work in the permanent collections of the Victoria and Albert in London, the Minneapolis Art Institute, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Los Angeles County Museum, the Nelson Aitkins Museum, and numerous international public and private collections.

•¿Qué entendemos por ciencia y tecnología? ¿Consideramos que nuestra educación en C y T es óptima? ¿Qué tanto prestigio tienen los científicos para los chilenos?, son algunas preguntas que responde la Encuesta Nacional de Percepción Social de la Ciencia y la Tecnología en Chile.
CONICYT dará a conocer a la comunidad los resultados de la Encuesta Nacional que mide la Percepción Social de la Ciencia y la Tecnología en Chile, consulta realizada entre los meses de octubre 2015 y enero 2016, en zonas urbanas y rurales, y que busca establecer una línea base que permita conocer el estado actual en que se encuentra la relación de la sociedad con esta actividad.
“Los resultados nos entregan valiosos antecedentes sobre la forma en que los chilenos entienden la ciencia y la actividad científica, por ejemplo, que la CyT nos permitirán tener una mejor calidad de vida. Esto nos obliga a compartir estos resultados con toda la comunidad, pero al mismo tiempo, comprender cómo la gente percibe estos temas nos permite mejorar nuestro aporte a la formación, desde los párvulos a la población en general; pero también traducir esa mejor comprensión y valoración de estas áreas puede impactar en los recursos que necesitamos no sólo en el ámbito formativo, sino también en el quehacer científico y tecnológico, que es imprescindible para el desarrollo económico y social del país”, explica Christian Nicolai, Director Ejecutivo de CONICYT.
La encuesta presencial se aplicó a nivel nacional (en las 15 regiones del país) a 7.637 personas de 15 años y más, y se orientó bajo un marco teórico desarrollado en el documento “Consideraciones para la definición y medición de la cultura científica en Chile”, además de apreciaciones de la Red Iberoamericana de Indicadores de Ciencia y Tecnología, RICYT.
Cabe destacar que, así como lo hace Chile, 11 países de la Región han aplicado este tipo de encuestas durante los últimos 15 años para conocer la percepción pública, acerca de la ciencia y la tecnología, abordando principalmente las dimensiones como: imagen sobre la CyT y de quienes las desarrollan; interés, nivel de información y hábitos cotidianos vinculados con estas temáticas; y la valoración y utilidad que éstas tienen.
“Los datos que arroja esta encuesta son fundamentales para que el esfuerzo que realiza el país en Ciencia y Tecnología tenga cada día una mayor vinculación con las preocupaciones de la sociedad y una creciente incidencia en nuestro desarrollo social, cultural, y económico. Acoger estas prioridades va justamente en la línea de fortalecer las capacidades de planificación de CONICYT que nos encomendó la Presidenta de la República a comienzos de este año”, recalcó Mario Hamuy, Presidente del Consejo de CONICYT.
“Estos datos otorgan un gran potencial como insumo de orientación para la toma de decisiones de las autoridades, universidades, fundaciones, empresas e investigadores comprometidos con el gran desafío que tenemos como país de incorporar el conocimiento y la inteligencia como herramientas que impulsen nuestro desarrollo”, agrega el doctor Hamuy.
Del mismo modo, el Programa Explora de CONICYT concentra sus esfuerzos en ayudar a instaurar esta cultura científica en la población, a través de acciones de educación no formal en ciencias dirigidas a las nuevas generaciones desde la escolaridad temprana. ¿Cuánto de este conocimiento, actitudes y habilidades para la ciencia y tecnología han sido incorporadas por la población?
“Es claro entonces que la ciencia no es de incumbencia exclusiva de los científicos, así como tampoco es un conocimiento que se crea para guardarse. La ciencia y tecnología están presentes en todos los espacios en que nos desarrollamos y, sin embargo, aún no sabemos cómo y cuánto se valora en nuestro país, cómo nos modifican y, también, cambian el rumbo de las sociedades”, explicó Christian Nicolai.

The international students of Sergeants Major Course Class 69 began their Spring 2019 Field Studies Program on April 25. Day 1 of the program took the students on a historical walking tour of various locations across Baltimore, around the inner harbor, through Fells Point and Little Italy, they then boarded a lunch cruise where they received information about the Patapsco River, and ended their first day with a tour at the Orioles Ballpark.
