Neste fim de semana, uma obra em grafite coletiva foi realizada em um muro de aproximadamente 50 metros, na Rua Silvianópolis, no Bairro Santa Tereza. A obra, fruto do Programa Gentileza, da Prefeitura de Belo Horizonte, tem como tema a história e elementos culturais do tradicional bairro, situado na região leste da capital.

Highlights from the United Nations Intensive Summer Study Program, sponsored by the School of Diplomacy and International Relations. Graduate and undergraduate students from schools around the globe, explored the political dynamics and inner workings of the UN.
Students from Des Moines Public Schools participated in Camp Invention, a nonprofit summer enrichment program for kindergarten through sixth grade, inspired by National Inventors Hall of Fame (NIHF) Inductees. Participants became part of an Innovation Force, a comic book superheroes-themed curriculum, which enabled young inventors to use problem-solving, creative, critical thinking skills, and to hone leadership skills.
Children were presented with real-world, hands-on challenges, with an emphasis on STEM proficiencies, creative problem solving, collaboration, and entrepreneurship through innovation. Students were encouraged to take on challenges that inspired them to collaborate with teammates, hypothesize, brainstorm, make mistakes, and build unique invention prototypes.
Learning through exploration and invention included learning the basics and economic challenges of running a business and managing a farm of the future. Campers learned fundamental coding techniques to program a Bot-Ann-E robot to plant seeds, hatch an egg, safely corral livestock, and maximize farmers’ time and profits. Inventors witnessed their farm businesses grow and earned “Moola” in the process. Students also explored groundwater cleanup technology, hydrophobic sand, and DNA syntheses.
A Deep Sea Mystery activity required students to become research scientists on a mission to locate a fish thought to be extinct. During the journey, the sailing and cargo-carrying capacity of their research vessels were tested, and damage to navigation equipment required crew members to design a north star navigator which permitted travel without technology. Campers also discovered the importance of protecting ideas with patents and trademarks, and overcoming Idea Crushers.
While being led through the process of invention, participants at Camp Invention had the freedom to create, test, try and fail while exploring the world of invention. Students discovered that failure is a necessary part of progress, that their ideas matter, and that anything is possible in the world of invention.
