On Saturday, April 21 sixteen students from two Newark schools launched three canoes in the Passaic River, culminating a three-month program presented by Project USE. The Boat Building Project was our first effort to combine standard curriculum (math, physics, history, etc.) and experiential learning. With almost 100 people in attendance, including families, teachers, foundation supporters, and even a Newark city councilman, the students representing North Star Academy Charter School of Newark and Link Community School floated their vessels from the edge of Riverbank Park. The event was part of a larger Earth Day celebration, and some of the students participated in a park clean up prior to the launching.
This pilot program will be replicated in schools throughout New Jersey in the coming years.

En el día de la fecha, el secretario de Cultura de la Nación, Jorge Coscia y el director ejecutivo de la ANSES, Diego Bossio, firmaron un convenio para instrumentar el programa Inclusión Cultura 2012. A partir de dicho programa, se realizarán actividades y proyectos culturales dirigidos a los beneficiarios de las principales políticas de la Seguridad Social.
Estuvieron presentes Vitillo Abalos, Teresa Parodi, Virginia Innocenti y Marian Farias Gomez, entre otros artistas.

Virginia Beach, Va. (April 13, 2014) - Marine Corps Community Services along with the Marine commands from across the Hampton Roads took time to recognize the hard-working people who volunteer to support the Hampton Roads Marines and families through various Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) programs. During the ceremony, each unit’s commanding officer presented their command's volunteers with a certificate of appreciation and a small gift provided, by MCCS.
The commander of U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command, Lt. Gen. R.T. Tryon attended the event with his wife Diane, and took the time to thank the volunteers for their continued support of the Hampton Roads Marines.

Brighter Bites is a collaborative effort designed to improve access to healthy, affordable food and provide nutrition education. The University of Texas School of Public Health, KIPP Schools, the Houston Food Bank and Texas Children's Hospital have partnered to offer the 16-week program to third-grade children enrolled at KIPP Explore Academy and their parents. As you can see from the photos, those healthy kale smoothies are a hit!
