I went to see Wicked in London over the weekend. Here's me with the programme.
Just go see it. Nuff said.
Page from the theatre programme for a production of "A Princess of Kensington" at the Hippodrome Theatre, Keighley, staged by Keighley and District Amateur Lyric & Dramatic Society in December 1910. This page features a list of the musical numbers.
Keighley and District Amateur Lyric & Dramatic Society's production of "A Princess of Kensington" played at the Hippodrome Theatre in Keighley for six nights from Monday 12th December 1910. The comic opera in two acts was by Basil Hood and Edward German. The Director and Stage Manager for the production was H. Hebden of Halifax and the Musical Director was Frank Davidson.
The opera is set in the London Borough of Kensington and in Winklemouth-on-Sea in the present day, but involves a story between fairies and mortals that spans a thousand years. Immortal fairy Azuriel (played by W. Southwell) remains jealous, even after all these years, that fellow fairy Kenna (Miranda Sugden) gave her heart to mortal Prince Albion. Mischievous fairy Puck (J. R. Hammond) has persuaded Kenna and Azuriel that Albion isn't long dead but is merely sleeping (he isn't!). Believing him, Puck is compelled by Azuriel to prove not only that Albion is still alive but is married to another mortal, thus freeing up Kenna. There are then complications with lovers, sailors, bankers, policemen and landlords until everyone ends up with whom they belong. As the programme puts it: "The Princess of Kensington is not intended to be taken seriously. It is a delightful pot pourri of fun, song, and dance, with just sufficient plot to leaven the whole."
The show also starred A. Hird, Arthur Greenwood, H. Connelly, H. Wilkinson, W. Cockcroft, R. Bird, A. B. Nutter, Asa Maude, T. Slater, B. Hardacre, W. Hunt, Mr Trotter, Mr Shuttleworth, J. Merrall, Gladys Broster, Mary Stell, Mrs Heaton, Miss A. Battle, Miss B. Mitchell, Miss A. Rape, Marie Carrodus, Amelia Battle, Miss L. Newby, and Miss A. Smith.
The 36-page programme was printed by Wadsworth and Company, The Rydal Press, Russell Street, Keighley. It measures approximately 260 mm by 190 mm (although the cover is slightly larger than the interior pages). The programme was part of an anonymous donation given in 2022.
Angkor Thom was the last and most enduring capital city of the Khmer empire. It was established in the late twelfth century by king Jayavarman VII. It covers an area of 9 km², within which are located several monuments from earlier eras as well as those established by Jayavarman and his successors. At the centre of the city is Jayavarman's state temple, the Bayon, with the other major sites clustered around the Victory Square immediately to the north.

This play was set in an old London Baths. A group of women used it to bathe and gossip and, of course, take off their clothes! Got used to it after a short while and it turned out to be an excellent play.
