Page from the theatre programme for a production of the musical 'The Merry Widow' at the Ritz Cinema, Keighley, staged by Keighley Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society in October 1960. This page includes a cast list.
The story is set in a Parisian embassy, and involves the twin romances between Count Danilovitsch (played by Edwin Smith) and Madam Anna Glavari (Olive Kitchen), and between Valencienne (Frances Fairclough) and the Count Camille de Rosillon (N. Keith Howarth). Unfortunately Valencienne is already married to Baron Zeta (Keith Marsden). There follows much confusion, mainly centred around a discarded fan, but all is resolved satisfactorily in the end.
Other members of the cast included Frank Hopkinson, Geoffrey Rundle, Frederic W. Pye, Dennis P. Smith, Janet Chadwick, Peter J. Wild, Johnny O'Connell, Gwenda Marsden, Florence M. Bottomley, Patricia Hewitt, Sylvia Holden, Cynthia Feather, Jill M. Preston, Shirley A. Durkin and Audrey Fowler. It was produced and directed by Frank Rydon, the musical director was R. Lewis Scargill, and the choreographer was Irene Ogden.
The programme is part of the Joy Rundle Collection, donated by Jane Eaman and Mark Rundle in 2023.
